On this morning's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, co-host Tiki Barber asked guest Dan Rather about his feelings regarding the recent Jesse Jackson imbroglio -- his "off mike" comments about Barack Obama. In the middle of praising Jackson, Rather referred to Barack Obama as "Osama bin Laden" -- and none of the four "Morning Joe" co-hosts reacted (nor did Rather).
Question: Will the media pick this up? That one of America's longest-serving network news anchors referred to one of the two presidential candidates as the world's most wanted terrorist -- and no one in the room seemed to notice?
While you ponder, here's what the former anchor of the "CBS Evening News" said (h/t to FiveThirtyEight who first noticed this blunder!):
RATHER: ...with Jesse Jackson, and I realize this is not popular to say with a lot of people, but I have a respect for Jesse Jackson. That he was an important figure in paving the way for an Osama bin Laden to appear.

Poor Dan
July 18, 2008 - 11:59 ET by ChuckM from PAJust another reason why Dan is a voice from the past, and is no longer relevant. If the other persons listening to him don't pick up on his gaffe, they must be admiting to his near senility as well.
But you're right, if another conservative person would have said that, all hell would have broken loose (or at least the listeners would have called him/her on it).

July 18, 2008 - 11:46 ET by okiehawk44Do many of you think Dan Rather will still be alive (or cognizant) when his lawsuit against CBS is settled? He's slipping pretty fast IMHO.

I'm Sure You're Correct
July 18, 2008 - 12:50 ET by stratmanThe panelists displayed courtesy and manners by not correcting the (glaring) mistake of their guest. Unfortunately, the same courtesy is not extended to non-Liberals by the MSM, hence my derision of these folks.
In my opinion, Rather does not deserve the validation and ego-stroking of polite MSM coverage. He deserves to be treated as a pariah in journalism for his despicable, and should have been criminal, falsehoods as a "journalist".
I keep trying to forget about Rather (and Mika to a smaller extent) but he keeps saying/doing something asinine and I am reminded of his parasitic presence.

July 18, 2008 - 12:21 ET by allamericangirlThe only thing I noticed was that Tiki Barber was doing the bobble head thing agreeing with everything Rather was saying and when Rather said Osam Ben Laden he stopped his head bob for a couple seconds. Than shamelessly started bobbing in agreement again like it never happened. The show is over the top sickening when Joe isn't there to curb the liberal propaganda.

I waited and waited...nothing...
I know danged good and well if this was the other way around with a conservative saying this, especially on Fox, but anywhere nevertheless...it would of been corrected or jumped on right away...
But not Dan Rather and msnbc...
As an aside...speaking of msnbc....the assassination plot that has been on the news on President Bush is getting little coverage on msnbc...what made me furious is they refused to use the word assassination...at least Fox called a spade a spade with this story and went into detail, included the al Qaeda connections with these terrorists.

No, you see, you're missing the point. This is just in keeping with Rather's "wish" that if he got it wrong, he wants to be the first to break the story. ;-)

But let Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Rielly, Beck...etc make the same mistake/error/faux pas and HOLY HELL would break out DEMANDING that they resign/be fired.

July 20, 2008 - 09:35 ET by goldenthroatUpway,
Of course you're not going to find it on AOL, or probably even Google. Why should they allow something called the truth to infiltrate their search engines - why, that would be un-american!
Seems that the aforementioned search engines are conveinently picking and choosing what they allow to be searched! Google, not long ago, was blocking anything that was anti-Obama and calling it "spam".
Is AOL doing the same thing?
I have recently dumped Google for GoodSearch and am getting as good of results if not better. Besides, they'll donate monies to your favorite charity each time you search.
I just called up on GoodSearch what you tried on AOL - and there are plenty of links to Dan Rather-not's quote. Give it a try.
