Rather Calls Obama 'Osama Bin Laden,' Will Media Notice?

  • Bookmark and Share

On this morning's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, co-host Tiki Barber asked guest Dan Rather about his feelings regarding the recent Jesse Jackson imbroglio -- his "off mike" comments about Barack Obama. In the middle of praising Jackson, Rather referred to Barack Obama as "Osama bin Laden" -- and none of the four "Morning Joe" co-hosts reacted (nor did Rather).

Question: Will the media pick this up? That one of America's longest-serving network news anchors referred to one of the two presidential candidates as the world's most wanted terrorist -- and no one in the room seemed to notice?

While you ponder, here's what the former anchor of the "CBS Evening News" said (h/t to FiveThirtyEight who first noticed this blunder!):

RATHER: ...with Jesse Jackson, and I realize this is not popular to say with a lot of people, but I have a respect for Jesse Jackson. That he was an important figure in paving the way for an Osama bin Laden to appear.

Imagine the reaction

If this was said on Fox News, by Rush, or Mark Levin

Poor Dan

Just another reason why Dan is a voice from the past, and is no longer relevant.  If the other persons listening to him don't pick up on his gaffe, they must be admiting to his near senility as well.

But you're right, if another conservative person would have said that, all hell would have broken loose (or at least the listeners would have called him/her on it).

Dan

Do many of you think Dan Rather will still be alive (or cognizant) when his lawsuit against CBS is settled? He's slipping pretty fast IMHO.

No mis-speak here

"(JJ) was an important figure in paving the way for an Osama bin Laden to appear."

I think he meant exactly what he said, and I concur wholeheartedly.

On behalf of Dan's all over

On behalf of Dan's all over I say we are ashamed he is named so.  Also I think no truer words were uttered from Rathers mouth.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Talk about a freudian slip

The truth comes out.     And to think it was a lefty that said it.

I dont see where Dan was

I dont see where Dan was wrong here. Sounds pretty accruate. I think OBL paved the way for BHO.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

The others in the

The others in the video:

  • Not a single eyebrow raised.
  • Not a single flinch made.
  • Not a single sound uttered.
  • Not a single correction offered.

Un-freaking-believable!

Mika B. is a bubblehead unworthy of media time.

The panelists gave Rather too much deference, including his so-called "Bush-ism." concering Obama/Osama.

How does it feel to be the jackass, Dan?

If I ever see/hear/read of this pathetic liar again it will be too soon.

RRAM Tough!

I think they were

I think they were protecting Dan, kind of thinking "Let's pretend that never happened" and figuring if they said anything, it would just make it more noticeable.

Hopint it would be forgotten as soon as the show was done.

I'm betting they were right.

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson

I'm Sure You're Correct

The panelists displayed courtesy and manners by not correcting the (glaring) mistake of their guest.  Unfortunately, the same courtesy is not extended to non-Liberals by the MSM, hence my derision of these folks.

In my opinion, Rather does not deserve the validation and ego-stroking of polite MSM coverage.  He deserves to be treated as a pariah in journalism for his despicable, and should have been criminal, falsehoods as a "journalist".

I keep trying to forget about Rather (and Mika to a smaller extent) but he keeps saying/doing something asinine and I am reminded of his parasitic presence.

RRAM Tough!

I think they did not notice

I think they did not notice the gaffe themselves, and so thus are also complicit in the Bush-ism.

The only thing I noticed was

The only thing I noticed was that Tiki Barber was doing the bobble head thing agreeing with everything Rather was saying and when Rather said Osam Ben Laden he stopped his head bob for a couple seconds. Than shamelessly started bobbing in agreement again like it never happened. The show is over the top sickening when Joe isn't there to curb the liberal propaganda.

I saw this this morning...I

I saw this this morning...I could not believe ALL remained silent and at least didn't laughingly correct that huge gaffe....

I waited and waited...nothing...

I know danged good and well if this was the other way around with a conservative saying this, especially on Fox, but anywhere nevertheless...it would of been corrected or jumped on right away...

But not Dan Rather and msnbc...

As an aside...speaking of msnbc....the assassination plot that has been on the news on President Bush is getting little coverage on msnbc...what made me furious is they refused to use the word assassination...at least Fox called a spade a spade with this story and went into detail, included the al Qaeda connections with these terrorists.

Osama-Obama-Media

They are all similar in their world view.

Osama and Obama want destrution of the United States.

Osama- Obama and the Media want destruction of the christians of the world.

Osama wants Islamic control of the world.

Obama wants Islamic control of the world.

Media thinks they now control the world and head the one world government.

Three more dangerous groups could ever team up.

Spelling error!

Uh-Oh! Somebody mispelled Jackson! "Jacskon"

They can't even get that right.

Talknig from His Subconscience?

Looks like a subliminal slip on old Danny-boy's part to me!

I would have liked to hear

I would have liked to hear his answer to the question she was asking just as the clip ended....

No credibility

I respect the opinions of "Alf" more than I do of Dan "Karl Marxist" Rather.  I know it is not very Christian of me but I do revel in the misery that Dan seems to be encapsulated in since his demise.  Pray for me.

Conservative: Because we can't all be on welfare!

-- and none of the four

-- and none of the four "Morning Joe" co-hosts reacted (nor did Rather).

No, you see, you're missing the point.  This is just in keeping with Rather's "wish" that if he got it wrong, he wants to be the first to break the story. ;-)

The only difference

to Dan between the two is that Osama did it to America already, and Obama will.  And he seems to be fine with that.

Why would the LMSM say anything....

Why would this even cause a stir in the LMSM???

Afterall they gave Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy a pass when he did the EXACT SAME THING when introducing Obama at a convention in (iirc) 2007.

But let Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Rielly, Beck...etc make the same mistake/error/faux pas and HOLY HELL would break out DEMANDING that they resign/be fired.

Vindi

THEY ALL ACTED LIKE NOTHING

THEY ALL ACTED LIKE NOTHING WRONG WAS SAID....I DON'T THINK ANYONE OF THEM CAUGHT IT. MIKI IS AN IDIOT ANYWAY. I CAN'T BELIEVE TIKI JUST SAT THERE, HE EVEN SHOOK HIS HEAD "YES". THE OTHER GUY JUST LOOKED LIKE HE WAS IN AAAAWWWWWW OF DANNY BLATHER. THAT WAS SOME GOOD TV.

As Of July 20th...

Your search for "Dan Rather calls Obama Osama" returned no results.

We recommend that you try the following:

  • Check your spelling.
  • Remove double quotes. Quotes indicate an exact phrase, removing them broadens your search.
  • Try using fewer words, your search may be too specific. Example: Instead of typing "tax free municipal bonds" try searching for "municipal bonds" or "bonds".
  • Try different words.
  • Rephrase your search using synonyms or related words. Example: Instead of "italian cuisine" try "italian cooking".

That's why I switched my search engine...

Upway,

Of course you're not going to find it on AOL, or probably even Google. Why should they allow something called the truth to infiltrate their search engines - why, that would be un-american!

Seems that the aforementioned search engines are conveinently picking and choosing what they allow to be searched! Google, not long ago, was blocking anything that was anti-Obama and calling it "spam".

Is AOL doing the same thing?

I have recently dumped Google for GoodSearch and am getting as good of results if not better. Besides, they'll donate monies to your favorite charity each time you search.

I just called up on GoodSearch what you tried on AOL - and there are plenty of links to Dan Rather-not's quote. Give it a try.

Found it on GoodSearch!

DFTT,

Tried it and found it - along with this left-coast, bleeding-heart, 'do as I say, not as I do' article from Bob Geiger as to why he thinks the Republicans are to blame for the congressional low ratings instead of the Demoncrats! This is a hoot!
