The headline (via MSNBC) is ominous: Racial gaps may exist in kidney cancer care -- 5-year survival rates have increased for whites, but not blacks, study finds. But beginning with the second paragraph, we're provided with a big "nevermind":
There are disparities in the treatment and outcome between older black and white patients who have renal cell cancer, with blacks having significantly lower survival rates, according to a new study.
However, the lower rates of nephrectomy (surgical removal of the kidney) and the higher rates of comorbid illnesses in black patients largely explain the survival difference, the study found.
In addition, the study authors discovered that blacks "were much more likely than whites to have other illnesses" in conjunction with kidney cancer. And, the authors concede, these additional illnesses -- when taken into account -- eliminated the post-treatment survival disparity between whites and blacks.
So, the fearful headline isn't so fearful when one bothers to read the article. But if you're just scanning headlines to see what is going on in the news, what impression is one likely to have when reading this particular headline? That the medical community is clandestinely racist when treating kidney cancer, perhaps?

Why let facts get in the way of a good racist scare headline????
<sarc> And you know, it's just not fair that blacks tend to have more other illnesses in addition to the cancer.. For instance, why is it that blacks tend to have high blood pressure more than whites? That affects the kidneys too, you know......must be some inherent racism in that too.

Does one practice "preventive-medicine" more?
Is one more promiscous than the other?

It is because of a couple of reasons, sickle trait being the most common reason; sickled cells don't filter well through the kidneys...it is pure genetics. Has absolutely nothing to do with care or standard of care. Tay Sachs in Jews (just about gone now), cystic fibrosis in British decendants, Thalissemia Major in southeast Asians, Factor VIII hemophilia in central Europeans....all these have side effects to the organ systems so for obvious reasons, these folks have much more treatment related to each of these problems.
By the way, making up news where there isn't any news is a "congenital" effect of being hired by some of these TV news channels and most of the printed papers.

did they check to see if the "blacks" followed up on their post diagnosed care, did it compare the degree of intensity of the disease when the patient was first diagnosed. did the "blacks" have other factors such as diet or other diseases that are more prevelent to the genetic not racial background of "blacks". it's all ambiguous and proves nothing is racist about these "finding".
my dad is an ass cause he's had 2 heart attacks and hasn't lost weight or followed the diet that the doctors tell him he needs to eat. if he has a third and dies is it racist? it matters not what his race is, it's the individual responsibility that he has to take after the incidents. obviously he didn't the first time because he had a 2nd heart attack. now can anyone tell me what race is my father? does it matter?

What needs to be explored IS WHO FUNDED THIS NONSENSE as these jokers do not work for free. If one traces this it will be some goofy propaganda group linked with a group who wants more government money for their unique "slow murdering for profit" of blacks in experimental treatment.
All of these studies have one goal in mind and that is how to get a million dollar grant so they can have some med student do the tests as the researcher either chases an intern around their office or is out playing golf. This is the medical welfare which has to stop. The Aids industry is but one of the cash cows raking in billions for hucksters not doing a thing but collecting a check.

Last month an MD in CA was fired for not providing non-emergency treatment to illegals which was intended for his county's poor. He cited the illegals returning to the states simply to use his facility.
