Bill Maher Smears ‘Diabolical’ Ted Cruz and His ‘Dummy Base’

Comedian Bill Maher has a way with words.

Wednesday night, the HBO host appeared as a guest on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. While Kimmel announced Maher as nonpartisan critic, Maher appeared anything but – from calling Ted Cruz “evil” and “diabolical” to deeming Marco Rubio a “dummy.”

Kimmel introduced Maher, host of Real Time with Bill Maher:

“It doesn't matter if you're Republican or Democrat, president or pope, if our first guest doesn't like what you're up to, he will make sure you know it.”

But, during the show, Maher seemed to prove the opposite: He was all for Democrats winning the upcoming presidential election – and only Democrats.

At one point in show, Kimmel asked Maher if he liked any of the Republican presidential candidates – and what he would do if he were “forced to vote for one of them.”

“I’d kill myself,” Maher responded.

Kimmel tried to get a more detailed more by rephrasing his question: “Who do you think is the worst among them?”

That was an easy pick for Maher.

“Oh, Ted Cruz is always the worst,” he said to laughter from the audience.

He defended his claim with a slew of insults:

I said it because he is. Because he's smart and evil. The other ones are true dummies, like Rubio, you know? He doesn't know what he's talking about. He just says the words. But Ted Cruz is diabolical. I mean, he always – he's smart. What I really hate about him – and this is what a true cynic is – he's smart but he knows what to say to his dummy base that they will believe

To more laughter, Maher pointed out his “favorite” example of Cruz sayings.

“He said, you know, before 9/11, I was a fan of classic rock. After 9/11, I find myself switching to country music,” he said. “Because as we all know the World Trade Center was attacked by Three Dog Night.”

He also referenced Cruz discussing “New York values” during previous GOP debate.

“Like he doesn't have New York values. He clerked for the Supreme Court,” Maher said. “He went to Princeton and Yale. And he's like, do I even own shoes?”

Earlier in his appearance, Maher also addressed his similarity with GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“I mean, I always say Donald Trump and I are a little – a little like the detective and the serial killer, you know? We're not so different, you and I.” he said. “I certainly don't agree with hardly anything he says politically, but I love the fact that he's politically incorrect.”

Maher appeared both disgusted and impressed by Trump in his following rant:

He eats third rails for breakfast. I – I have yet to – to find something this man can say that will turn his fans off. I mean, we all thought it was over when he said John McCain not a war hero. We thought, oh, well, that's, you know – come on – he’s. No. But great, whatever. No. And then he – and then he went to Megyn Kelly, you're on your period. Carly Fiorina, you're an older woman, too ugly to run for president. Hey, who wants to see my impression of a cerebral palsy guy? What does this man have to do? Fart in Jesus's face?

“He's like a – a movie monster,” Maher added. “Whatever they think is going to destroy him just makes him stronger.”

After his Trump acknowledgement, Kimmel asked Maher about his endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

“Look, I like Hillary a lot. But not as much as Bernie,” he gushed. “We've never had a leftist in my lifetime. A true leftist.”

Maher commended Sanders for what he deemed a “new deal.”

“He is saying we could be more like a western European democracy where you pay a little more taxes but look what you get,” he said. “Free college, free health care. Go after the banks.”

Hillary Clinton was an OK option though.

“But Hillary is still good,” he said. “It's like when you’re on a plane, if you don't get your first choice, eat the chicken.”

“Because if you don't get the Democrat, you know, the nearest abortion clinic will be in London,” he added.
