Season Two of Vida on the Starz network began airing May 26, picking up where the first season ended. The opening scene of “Episode 7” is jarring, to say the least.
A full two-minute orgy scene begins the show. This includes wall to wall naked bodies of both heterosexual and homosexual couplings. The scene is completely random and without merit to the rest of the episode. If the intention is simply to shock the viewer, well, mission accomplished.
Vida is a story about two Latina sisters coping with the death of their mother and trying to keep her neighborhood bar in East L.A. open. In this episode the sisters, Emma (Mishel Prada) and Lyn (Melissa Barrera), host a fundraiser for their mother’s partner’s medical bills in the bar. Eddy (Ser Anzoategui) broke her hip and she needs financial help.
One way to make some cash at the fundraiser is announced – a Donald Trump piñata. Each hit at the piñata costs $5.00. President Trump’s facial likeness is unmistakable, and his suit is complete with a long red tie. One woman says they "need to beat the shit out of it."
Woman: Hey, Rafy. You gonna hang this up? We need to beat the shit out of it.
Rafy: I mean, I wasn't going to, but maybe we should charge $5 a pop to hit it?
Woman: Yeah! Let's do it!
Sam: Okay, everyone. $5 to hit that piñata.
Woman: Yeah!
So, Season Two is off and running. No telling what lengths the writers will go to as they try to shock the audience and insult President Trump’s supporters.
