You can surgically repair the heart of the boy, but you better not reprogram it to be a Michigan fan.
Our feel good story of the day comes from Ohio, where according the Sporting News, a young Buckeye fan is very concerned about his upcoming heart surgery. Understandably. Though, not for the reason you might suspect:
When 10-year-old Buckeyes fan Ivan Applin arrived at a Michigan hospital for heart surgery, he made it clear that he didn’t want his loyalty compromised.
“He asked if the Michigan doctors were going to make his heart love University of Michigan instead of Ohio State,” his mother, Jennifer, told UofMHealthBlogs.com.
The doctors promised the Toldeo, Ohio, native they wouldn’t tinker with his affinity for the Buckeyes.
Applin was treated at the Congenital Heart Center at the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital for a heart defect that left several holes in his heart.
The procedure was done without incision, allowing him to walk and eat later that day before being sent home the following day.
‘He keeps asking me to take out the calendar and show him the exact day his recovery period is officially over so he can stop resting,’ Jennifer said. ‘He wants to make sure it’s in time for his first soccer practice.’
Something tells me that if Ivan turns out to be a great soccer player, those recruiting letters from Michigan just might be returned to sender.
