Lena Dunham is a huge Planned Parenthood and abortion supporter. She was a Planned Parenthood abortionist for Halloween one year – and not in a bloody horror way, but in a “newsy, sexy, and cool” way. How much does Lena love abortion? Just in December she said, “I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.” Well, now she might get her wish, via her character Hannah on the HBO series Girls.
On Sunday night’s episode, “Painful Evacuation,” Hannah goes to the ER for a UTI (because OF COURSE there has to be some gross, TMI dialogue for shock value.) We find out she’s uninsured because of the ObamaCare website rollout disaster – thanks, Obama! Shocking Girls put Obamacare in a negative light, especially considering Dunham did a video plug for ObamaCare in January.
But the surprises don’t end there: Hannah is pregnant. And she acts offended when the doctor, who she’s met before, assumes she wants an abortion.
Hannah: How you doing?
Doctor: Good. Good, yeah. Yeah, I mean, I'm in private practice now. Just pick up a few shifts a week here to help...Hannah: The uninsured. It's very noble. But I do want you to know I tried to sign up for ObamaCare and the website fucked me over, so...
Doctor: Well, I'll get right on that.Hannah: Um, I have a UTI. I get them all the time, so I need, like, Cipro, Pyridium, codeine if you're feeling, you know, fun and fancy.
Doctor: Yes, your urine tested positive for infection. In the future, I'd come see us a few days earlier when the symptoms start.
Hannah: Yeah, it's just sometimes hard to tell if it's, like, just the baseline level of weirdness of my urethra or an actual issue, so it's like what's being alive and what's an infection? These are my questions.
Doctor: I'm not sure if you-- if you pee after intercourse, but that can also help in preventing them. And, plus, you're pregnant. Do you know that?
Hannah: I do now. You know what? The hug kind of feels like the wrong thing, so I'm gonna...
Doctor: Do you know who the father is?
Hannah: Yeah, he's a waterski instructor who I'm not likely to see again, so... He's thrilled.
Doctor: Listen, um... The abortion is an out-of-pocket expense, but if you need help, I can bring you. I can have a friend handle it, somebody I trust.
Hannah: What makes you think I want an abortion?
Doctor: Are you serious?
Hannah: Mm-hmm. Thanks for your help. I'll just use my expired antibiotics.
This is so surprising because Dunham and other pro-aborts want to take away any “stigma” associated with killing pre-born humans and often advocate for tv and movies to show abortion as no big deal and an easy decision. A minor character casually told her boyfriend she just had an abortion in a Girls episode a few years ago and Dunham said, “It’s about making sure abortion is without stigma and is not something that women feel like they have to apologize for.” But doesn’t her own character reacting negatively to the suggestion she’d get an abortion perpetuate this stigma?
Hannah doesn’t tell any of her friends the news in the episode, but the preview for next week shows her googling embryonic development and telling her mother she’s pregnant.
Will Hannah save her baby or fulfill Dunham’s dream of having an abortion? Stay tuned.
