Joy Behar Made Pro-Catholic Remarks … Almost

Joy Behar, a co-host of ABC’s “The View,” has been known to make anti-Catholic remarks. On the May 26 edition, Behar said something positive about Catholics, before adding in her usual quip.

During the "Hot Topics" segment, the hosts were discussing women and their level of happiness now that they have more opportunities available to them. On the topic of social movements, Behar stated, "I did a study when I was in college. I did a study about suicide and it was interesting. College suicides and suicides in general, go down in Catholic countries. Why? Because there are social norms that keep people strict. This is the rule, you do this. You go to church, you do this, you don't practice this, you do that. When you go to a Protestant country like Sweden, you have a higher suicide rate because they are more liberal."

While this was certainly a change of pace for Behar, who is a former Catholic, she concluded her tangent by then stating this about Protestants, "They have more freedom." In "The View's" discussion of religion, Behar steered away from her usual anti-Catholic rhetoric.

Let's see if I have this

Let's see if I have this straight...if you're more liberal, you're more likely to commit suicide.

Hmmmm....wonder if some of the rabid talking heads at msnbc have been made aware of this...

Just a thought.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

→ Ofr course bt

That's a no-brainer.

If there's nothing wrong with suicide, It's just another choice to be made without a God to tell you otherwise.

Hopefully this is true.  If

Hopefully this is true.  If it is, we should start seeing liberals jumping off of high buildings by the dozens.  I may help the economy by selling popcorn at such events.  Wonder if the MSM will start publicizing these mass liberal suicides on my cable line-up?  Oops!  I think the guy that normally does that job just jumped off the Empire State building!  Damn the luck!

Here's hoping!

obama's notion of bi-partisanship is telling conservatives to shut up and do what he wants.

Still twisting the facts

Of course, she misses the obvious and twists the facts.  Heaven forbid she admit that Christians and Catholics tend to be happier and that's why they don't commit suicide, not because there are rules that keep them from it.

If my mind worked (or

If my mind worked (or didn't as the case may be) like a liberal, I may want to kill myself as well.  It's just a good thing my brian works.

If "pro" means for and "con" means against, and "progress" means to move forward, what does "congress" mean?

If I had a question about religion ...

The name Joy Behar doesn't occur to me.

Those angry broads

How does Lis Hasselback deal with it.

It seems liberated and liberal mean the same thing to a leftist extremist.

How liberating it must feel to jump off a bridge.

Joy went to college?

I can't believe Joy went to college.

Not only

Not only did Joy go to college, I hear she used to be a (gasp)...a teacher!!

Don't that make your heart go all aflutter?

Sorry Joy, but people do not

Sorry Joy, but people do not even attend church in the Scandinavian countries.  My brother got married in Copenhagen, Denmark.  It was so unusual to see a wedding celebration, much less at a church, that the Press showed up to cover it (as if my bro and his wife were celebs).  Weddings are also so rare their, that to rent a tux, as a groomsman, I had to go to a "costume" shop, which also happened to rent fake boobs and gorilla suits. LOL.  I was tempted to rent the fake boobs for the job instead of the tux.

Yes, I also attended church in Stockholm, Sweden, as well as Oslo, Norway.  The churches were like ghost towns.  My family were the only people there, except for the pastors.  Religion is essentially dead in the metro cities in Scandinavia.  If it is indeed true that suicide rates there are higher, I would not doubt it for a moment.

Reconciliation:

What Behar concluded in her research some years ago had been established some 40 years ago by international and UN reseach over 40 years ago: that the rate of suicide of a country declined with the greater proportion of the population being Catholic, especially practicing Catholic. Indeed even at that time the Scandanavian countries with the best standard of living in the world had the  highest suicide rates in the world. The researchers of 40 years ago attributied this phenomenon to the consolation and removal of "guilt" through the Catholic's belief in the "forgiveness" brought about through the Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation, more commonly known as Confession.  Interestingly enough, the need for and attendance at psychiatric and counselling sessions is also much lower among those who utilise the Sacrament. And BTW, it is FREE.

What exactly are the

What exactly are the ratings like for this cabaret?

If they are high then I guess that most Americans are indeed atheists and Communists...or too stupid to realize those they support despise them?

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

Freedom versus "freedom"

See - liberals have a very different, and incorrect, definition of freedom.

They believe vices - especially sexual promiscuity - are the hallmark of freedom and that vurtues - especially those taught by Catholicism - are oppressive.

Yet, as Behar unintentionally points out, there's more freedom and happiness in Catholicism than there is in liberalism.  People who commit suicide don't do so because they are happy - they do so because they are depressed.  You can't come to the conclusion that because liberal Protestant countries like Sweden have "more freedom" yet higher rates of suicide, it's okay.  Suicide is, last I checked, a pretty permanent solution to one's problems.

Which means, logically, the "rules" of Catholicism make people happier.  Why is that?  Because they are freer.  We are free to reject the slavery that comes with sin and free to live as God intended.  Or, in other words: When you reject, as [Behar] has, the gospel of freedom in Christ, you necessarily embrace a law of slavery.*

Catholicim's not oppression.  That's genuine freedom.

It's amusing how these factiods and truths (inconvenient to folks like Behar, for sure) always manage to slip out in spite of powerful efforts to dispel and quiet them.
