Obama Not Dogged By Diet Revelations, But NYTimes Hits Romney in Print With 'Cookie-Gate'
The conservative blogosphere has been making mirth out of an entry from Barack Obama's first autobiography, "Dreams From My Father," in which he briefly mentions eating dog as a child in Indonesia.
It also functions as a counter to another shaggy political anecdote, widely propagated throughout the liberal media, about Mitt Romney strapping his pet dog to a crate on the top of his station wagon for a long-ago family vacation. New York Times columnist Gail Collins is particularly obsessed with the non-story, mentioning it a few dozen times in her column since the story came to light in the summer of 2007.
Yet Obama's youthful foray into dog eating, first highlighted by Daily Caller blogger Jim Treacher on April 17, has yet to be mentioned in print by the New York Times (according to nytimes.com and Nexis searches) and was dismissed in one brief paragraph in an online "Diner's Journal" blog entry on April 19:
The New York Post: Food, of a sort, enters the presidential campaign: The Romney camp, stung by the old dog-on-top-of-the-car story, digs out an equally hoary tale about President Obama: his admission that he once ate dog meat.
That didn't stop the Times from bashing Obama's likely Republican opponent Mitt Romney over another trivial food-related item, "Cookie-gate," covered by Michael Barbaro in a brief article in Friday's print edition, "Making Hay Over Cookies." The online headline was more slanted: "Open Mouth, Insert Foot (Instead of Cookie)."
Mitt Romney never even tasted them.
But his offhand remark about a tray of five dozen cookies from a bakery in Bethel Park, Pa., on Tuesday has lighted up the local airwaves with confectionery consternation, even earning that most coveted distinction of superficial scandals – a name.
“Cookiegate,” as the bakery itself is calling the brouhaha, began as Mr. Romney sat down at a picnic table with six couples from suburban Pittsburgh to talk about the economy, a campaign event intended to capture the Republican presidential candidate engaged in casual conversation with ordinary Americans.
The table was filled with snacks, like potato chips and pretzels. But for whatever reason, Mr. Romney zeroed in on the cookies, a colorful collection that the bakery calls mini lady lox and gourmet thumbprints.
“I’m not sure about these cookies,” he said, looking at one of the woman. “They don’t look like you made them. No, no. They came from the local 7-Eleven, bakery, or whatever."
In the retelling, all anybody at Bethel Bakery, the beloved 57-year-old outfit that made the cookies, would remember was “7-Eleven.” As in, Mr. Romney had compared their bakery’s cookies with those from a convenience store.
Barbaro didn't miss out on the Obama campaign's contribution in egging on the latest mini-scandal:
Among the bakery’s new customers: the Obama campaign. The local Pennsylvania office ordered a tray of five dozen cookies on Thursday, the same platter that sat before Mr. Romney earlier in the week.

I'm sorry, I don't understand

I'm sorry, I don't understand why the dog in a crate story is so hard to deal with. Romney simply needs to say, " we are facing a Nuclear Iran, North Korea, high unemployment, massive deficits, bla, bla, bla, and you want to talk about my dog from 5+ years ago?!? Come on, be a real journalist and ask me a relevant question."
The story would stop right there.
No, sad to say it wouldn't stop there

The media doesn't want to talk about any of those issues they mentioned because they know BO has failed on each of them.
So let's talk about what dog meat tastes like shall we?

And ever since hearing that revelation of the Muslim eating dog, that puts all those pictures of him and Bo into a different meaning, and someone should put into a caption or something like a thought balloon the dog's thoughts "Oh no, what's he doing with his hands, is he checking me out for tenderness? Am I gonna be dinner instead of being there for dinner with the girls?" Or "Geez, I'm in the hands of someone who ate one of my kind....."
I mean, geez, it's a pet on a leash, not meal on a leash, there is only so far you can play with your food......

“Obama had to go hunting for dog meat,” the source, who didn’t want to be identified, told me.
Not only did he eat dogs, he had to hunt them first!

A: "Yes, we can."

Illustrates the hilarious dilemma the MSM and the Obama peddlers have created for themselves. They can't find a way to defend Obama's record because there is nothing to defend. And they can't find a scandal in Romney's life to trumpet for the next seven months.
What to do? What to do? Aha! Cookie-gate.
Pathetic.
Easy choice, for me

So the choice for Romney was to either put the dog in a crate, or cook the dog and serve it to his family, and some, on Obama's side, say he made the wrong choice?

Romney just seems to be helping Obama get re-elected. To pull out the fact that Obama ate dog as a child only backfires on Romney, because it was something that Obama did as a child, not as an adult. It makes Romney seem pathetic to be picking on the "child Obama".
Then this "cookie-gate" thing. I saw the video of Romney, and it seemed pretty gauche. You don't disparage a gift. Everything should be received with grace and gratitude. He does make the liberal criticism of being "out-of-touch" pretty accurate. Maybe he will do better once it comes to the real issues, but the guy lacks any sense of sincerity.

The Mormons, the Romneys, and the Left
Submitted by berlet98 on Sat, 04/21/2012 - 1:50am.
The Mormons, the Romneys, and the Left
A Roman Catholic, I freely admit I don’t know much about the Mormon religion aside from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at Christmas and that Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney professes the Mormon faith.
My wife and I toured Salt Lake City, Utah a few years ago and had the opportunity to visit the majestic, 119 year old Salt Lake Temple, a exalted tribute to a church dedicated to helping the poor at the same time it requires its membership to remain celibate until marriage, avoid alcohol, caffeine and drugs, and engage in worldwide humanitarian missions.
Although the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has long been a holiday favorite in America, the 15 million members of Mitt Romney’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have long been held in a suspicion borne of an ignorance of the church’s precepts and teachings.
I would refer the reader to the church’s website, http://mormon.org/, for more information on who Mormons are, what they believe, and what they have accomplished in their unorthodox but very Christian ministry, almost all of which is antithetical to what Leftists believe, think and practice.
It is precisely Mormonism’s strict beliefs that grate most on the Left, although they cloak their religious disdain by objecting to secular matters. Thus, Mitt Romney has been subjected to greater criticism than any presidential candidate since JFK.
Romney has been castigated, ridiculed, sometimes clandestinely, sometimes publicly, by President Barack Obama’s ultra-liberal mainstream media despite claims that they are ultra-tolerant of virtually everything and everyone–except for Republicans and conservatives–principally because he represents all that liberals are not.
Reflecting the extent of Leftist sick venom, liberals haven’t been content with attacking the candidate; they have violated their hero’s injunction against involving families in political campaigns by abusing Romney’s former teenage sweetheart and wife of 33 years, Ann Lois Davies Romney.
Mrs. Romney was recently attacked with the same Democrat talking point applied to her husband–being out of touch with the real world due to the family’s success a bnd prosperity–and for having the temerity to be a stay-at-home mom for their five sons instead of pursuing a carreer.
That perceived crime was almost as grave to liberals as her opposition to abortion and support for other conservative positions.
The president ran for cover following that misogynistic charge which ran counter to the administration’s contention that Republicans are the people waging a war on women. Hilary Rosen soon retracted her idiotic statement, almost as quickly as Obama flack Jay Carney denied Rosen was an Obama lackey even though she has been to the White House dozens of times in the past three years.
Compared to other vile insults hurled at Ann Romney by liberals, calling her out of touch was a compliment.
Mrs. Romney has been labeled by Obama supporters as a ”c*nt,” “bitch,” and “whore,” among other disgusting characterizations, and all because the Left considers a decent mother who chose not to work outside her home as beneath their concept of dignity. And, of course, because she is Mr. Romney’s wife.

Rather than suggest Mr. berlet doesn't know what the hell he is talking about, why not channel lefty Bob Beckel who told a female conservative that she doesn't know what the f*** she is talking about?

It's like the little boy that cried wolf. It won't be long before people tire of running only to find there was never a wolf. The more the media makes meaningless stories like Romney teasing about cookies as "gates," the less the people (especially Independents and Moderates that the press is trying to rally around their stories) will take anything seriously they write about as the election moves forward.

Dog-Gate
Submitted by Netstatter on Sat, 04/21/2012 - 9:24pm.
This Dog-Gate thing could go far. Certainly is fodder for a lot of dog-as-food jokes.
Like, "What was young Obama's favorite dinner? Hot dogs".
Anyway, eating dog is not uncommon in other countries. The Phillipines, Vietnam, I think even China. I don't know why the Media would be adverse to carrying the story. It isn't a big deal.
Regarding the Left calling Mrs. Romney out-of-touch: it is a badge of honor if they meant "out of touch with our Liberal values". Who wants to have a pessimistic view of the world?
