Again? Another NY Times Columnist Compares Tea Party G.O.P. to Terrorist Group

By Clay Waters | July 27, 2011 | 15:33

A  A

What is it with New York Times columnists likening Republicans to terrorist groups? On Sunday Nicholas Kristof  compared Tea Party sympathizers in Congress to Al Qaeda. Now Thomas Friedman in his Wednesday column “Can’t We Do This Right?”, not content to argue that Tea Party Republicans are misguided, calls them the “Hezbollah faction” of the G.O.P.

That is why we need to raise new tax revenues as well -- so we can simultaneously shrink the entitlements programs, but still keep them viable, and generate the funds needed to strengthen all five parts of our growth formula. Anyone who says that either entitlement reform or tax increases are off the table does not have a plan for sustaining American greatness and passing on the American dream to the next generation.

Alas, that is the Tea Party. It is so lacking in any aspiration for American greatness, so dominated by the narrowest visions for our country and so ignorant of the fact that it was not tax cuts that made America great but our unique public-private partnerships across the generations. If sane Republicans do not stand up to this Hezbollah faction in their midst, the Tea Party will take the G.O.P. on a suicide mission. No American politician was more allergic to debt or taxes than Thomas Jefferson, but he also appreciated the need to have the resources to make the Louisiana Purchase and insisted that on his tombstone it be written that he founded the University of Virginia.

Ironically, Friedman previously praised a deceased Hezbollah terrorist leader, Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, in a July 2010 column, as a sort of Alan Alda feminist of the Middle East.

Does this mean the NYTs likes the Tea Party?

They certainly give Hezbollah and other Islamists a pass when they commit atrocities.

I seem to recall Ms. Botox adamantly stating that cuts to entitlement programs were a non-starter, and last I checked she ain't in the TEA party.

So, Kristof, does this mean the Dems don't have a plan either?

Whose vision is narrowed?

"Alas, that is the Tea Party. It is so lacking in any aspiration for American greatness, so dominated by the narrowest visions for our country and so ignorant of the fact that it was not tax cuts that made America great but our unique public-private partnerships across the generations."

Whose vision is narrowed here, the TEA Party supporters, who understand that, for generations, the government stayed out of the way of the economy and innovation, (How much of a federal grant did Edison receive for his innovations? None. How many Environmental impact statements did Westinghouse have to fill out to create the worlds first water turbine power generator? None. Which department had to approve the construction of power lines to bring that power to New York? None. ) or the idiots who have imposed so many regulations, so much oversight, in the last two generations that innovation can now only be achieved through government grants, federal department approvals, massive regulation, and excessive taxation to pay for all that unnecessary bureaucracy? Liberals, wake the hell up! It is government itself that is destroying our greatness, one department, one regulation, one tax at a time.

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 4:15pm.

It terrifies the libs that people don't want to depend on the government for anything, that they want to be *GASP* INdependent.

It terrifies them to think that they'll lose their control over their people that their desire and lust for pushes them like an addict to act like this.

It terrifies them that people actually want to protect freedom, to defend this country, to *GASP* obey the Constitution as written instead of trying to re-interpret it.

Oh well!

Do you mean the same Lincoln...

Submitted by BurnInHellObama on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 4:52pm.

Do you mean the same Lincoln who said at his first inaugural: "I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so."

Do you mean the same Lincoln who on 11 Jun 1863 CONTINUED to find a way to ship the "negroes" out of the country?

Do you mean the same Lincoln who ALLOWED slavery to continue in Maryland, Delaware, and Kentucky DURING THE WAR?

Is that the Lincoln you mean? Don't you ever try to engage me in a battle of wits.

Yeah

Submitted by BurnInHellObama on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 5:27pm.

You're right. Lincoln had nothing to do with the North. My mistake.

By the way, I'm sure you knew Lincoln said the following, too: "I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality."

But you knew that already. I know. Sorry again.

It's just about as funny...

Submitted by BurnInHellObama on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 6:05pm.

It's just about as funny as raping women, burning down entire towns, killing livestock, destroying the lives of AMERICANS for 70, 80, ... years. The lives of MILLIONS of Americans that had NOTHING to do with slavery. Sherman was such a HOOT.

Also... Lincoln was a MILITARY figure. So... In a war you can't fire on MILITARY targets? Wait. Wasn't it Sherman who fired on many non-military targets? Such a funny guy he was.

PS. I said nothing about the War until someone get all "wee-wee"-ed up about my tagline. I didn't get off topic until another did. But, again, you knew all that.

Submitted by Boudin on Thu, 07/28/2011 - 9:00am.

Who was a complete failure at everything he touched, well that explains more about you then you may even understand.

The best part about Davis, was since the North did not prosecute him for treason, he became a lapdog for reconstruction. Telling Southerners to go along with the North, that he himself vowed to fight until death. Just like todays politicians, he caved to the political winds.

La Purchase

Submitted by Gggtth on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 5:18pm.

Jefferson knew he was exceeding his constitutional authority and admitted it. Adding 530 million acres was worth the risk, and Congress did approve the purchase after the fact. Comparing what Jefferson did in doubling the size of the US, promoting free enterprise and assuring prosperity for the next 200 years to what Obama wants to do - assuring serfdom for the next generation and the generation after that - could only come out of the unilluminated brain of a statist.

I'm not a Tea Partier. Somewhere right of center...

Submitted by krendler on Wed, 07/27/2011 - 6:09pm.

...but you might call me a liberal or a conservative depending on the particular *issue*. But I agree with the Tea Party on many of their positions and I'm tired of being called everything from a "terrorist" to a "racist" simply because I believe in being fiscally responsible.

Obama and the Dems (and their lackeys in the MSM) can go F themselves in '12, if nothing else, for consistently refusing to debate the issues, opting instead to play the class warfare card and calling everyone who doesn't agree with them "racists." They have nothing close to a compelling argument so this is what we get, day in, day out.

It truly must be difficult being Thomas Friedman..I mean this

Submitted by Paarl on Thu, 07/28/2011 - 8:00am.

guy has spent the last 2 decades being completely wrong about every political issue of substance.
From his worship of Chinese bullet trains that are jerry built and financially insolvent to his adoration of Assad as a man of moderation. I feel for him as he is running out of issues about which to be totally incorrect....after all the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies only lost 23 games in a row...

I think it is time for the Feds to build that bullet train track right through Friedman's estate in Bethesda, Md. It will give us the opportunity to exile him pronto to inner Mongolia where he can extol the wonders of slave labour...

paarl of Rhodesia...

PS..in Rhodesia we had bullet trains....they took the troopies to the front lines on the Mozambique border...all our FN rifles were greased clean and loaded with bullets !!!

Friedman - grow up

Submitted by felizagain on Thu, 07/28/2011 - 12:08pm.

Mr. Friedman - please grow up. You sound like a pouty college freshman trying to impress his bearded, ponytail wearing instructor in Polisci 101.

Make a point.
Have some facts.
Illustrate your opinion with facts & numbers - not Daily Kos style rants.

Is this a continuation of that climate of civility we have been told to follow by Obama and Democrats........oh wait, that's just when they choose to mention it. Rest of the time GOP and conservatives are terrorists, gun toting nuts aiming at the Prez, weirdos out to revert America 2011 to 1776! Oh no! Friedman - Hezbollah faction of GOP? Mr. Friedman, what part of the party is that? The ones who blow up children, use women as decoys, smuggle arms into Lebanon, encourage violence to anyone who is not just like them...those ones? Or the GOP faction that read the Constitution, and believes strongly the gigantic federal govt. is in need of a major fiscal diet, and now is the time to start the biggest change in the meal plan. Does anyone ever call these guys out on this? Amazing. The debt ceiling will rise. Then what? If tax revenues have decreased it's due mainly to that little thing called unemployment and recession.....our wallets are empty. Ask GM for some taxes, they got more huge tax breaks from Obama in order to show they had a profit .... on our dime.
