NYT Reporter: Swift Boat Vets for Truth 'Ugly Chapter' in U.S. History

Deborah Solomon, reporter for the New York Times Magazine, conducted her weekly Q&A this Sunday with Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens, ostensibly discussing his plan to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil by harnessing wind power.

But Solomon, who admitted voting for Al Gore in the 2000 election, also posed hostile questions about Pickens's involvement in the 2004 campaign against Democrat John Kerry:

Solomon: You helped re-elect Bush in '04 when you gave $3 million to the Swift Boat campaign to discredit John Kerry's Vietnam service. Do you regret your involvement?

Pickens: Why would I?

Solomon: Because it's such an ugly chapter in American political history.

Pickens: Oh, I see. Well, it was true. Everything that went into those ads was the truth.

Solomon: Really? I thought it was all invented.

Pickens: I never did anything dishonest.

Invented???

EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF nyt IS INVENTED. WHAT A JOKE

What was invented by the Swift Boat Vets???

what a moron

Ouch

That must have left a mark.

it was nice and ugly for

it was nice and ugly for lying pondscum liberals:)

here's to much more

The NYT of OZ

All they have to do is click their heels three times and the words they say become the truth.

Swift Boat Veterans are lying...

Swift Boat Veterans are lying...

Swift Boat Veterans are lying...

Viola!  In their minds the Swift Boat Veterans are now lying.

Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying.

- Ronald Reagan

Judge, jury, and executioner

The MSM declared the Swift Boaters guilty of lying without even investigating their accusations. They continue to refer to the SBers guilt without ever examining the crime. By repetition, they have cemented their infamy for all eternity.

It was a grand slam for the media. As far as I know, the only thing the SBers were guilty of was being funded by Republican interests. This is a perfect example of a kangeroo court. The suspects were declared guilty without a hearing and the court proceedings were sealed up. Only the conviction was released to the general public.

It was more like an ugly chapter in American media history. The day the MSM hijacked the political process.

A gun in your hand beats a cop on the phone.

Solomon: Because it's such

Solomon: Because it's such an ugly chapter in American political history.

Incorrect, A-hole. The ugly chapter is as soon as Kerry touched down on US soil from his truncated stint (I'm being kind) in Vietnam he launched his campaign to slander his brothers-in-arms and the entire US military as his personal political stepladder.

Just like his fellow 'hero' Hanoi Jane, among others.

ps: T-Boone, just buy the NYT for revenge. You could pick it up for a firesale price.

well said

I was going to say "Well said SOL," but then the acronym caught me... <LOL>

You're right on the money. As a Viet Nam vet I'd like to see that SOB spend the rest of his days at Ft. Leavenworth breaking rocks.

Yes, the acronym is

Yes, the acronym is unfortunate.

The funny thing is most of these lib media types who are constantly running to Kerry's defense were not even born in 1971 and know jack-sh_t about it.

I am plenty old enough to remember and I would prefer Gitmo over Leavenworth for Sen. Triple Purple Heart.

And I honor your service.

Not So Fast

"ps: T-Boone, just buy the NYT for revenge. You could pick it up for a firesale price."

Be patient. The Times is in the process of burning down and melting down more each day. It hasn't yet reached the point where a self-respecting investor like Boone Pickens would give it a sniff.

Eventually the Times will be looking for a knight in shining armor to rescue it from itself. By then it'll be so cheap maybe Newsbusters and its posters can chip together to buy a majority interest.

You thought wrong.....they

You thought wrong.....they never provide any proof to their statements. It was only ugly if you were John Kerry and got called out....

Anbody else still waiting on

Anybody else still waiting on Kerry to disprove the Swift Boat vets and collect the million from T. Boone?

anyone else waiting?

only jer.

Wrong, Larry...I, and

Wrong, Larry...I, and millions of others, are waiting for T. Boone to "man up" and honor the wager he was called on and then slinked away from.  I am afraid we will be waiting for a long, long time.

Jer

Cannot disprove the

Cannot disprove the assertions made by the vast majority of the Swiftees.  Why?  Be cause they were historically accurate.

Most simply said they did not believe Kerry was the person for the job because he acted dishonorably.  Please, after:

 Winter Soldier,

Congressional testimony,

throwing medals over the wall,

meeting the nVietnamese in Paris,

PROVE HE ACTED HONORABLY...

Why?  Nobody has succeeded

Why?  Nobody has succeeded in disproving the swiftboat charges.

Kerry still has not made his full military record public.  Private disclosures to friendly "journalists" at the Boston Globe do not count.

The Swifties are not the lying, slanderer.  Kerry is.  He is the one who gave false testimony to Congress about his actions and the actions of his fellow servicemen in Vietnam.  Kerry is the one who met with the enemy in Paris contrary to regulations.  Kerry is the one who falsely claimed he was in Cambodia. etc., etc.

When are you and your ilk going to "man up" and admit John the Swifties were right?

When are you and your ilk

When are you and your ilk going to "man up" and admit John the Swifties were right?

Well, I can't speak for my "ilk", but I'll admit that the Swifties were right about much---just not all.

Jer

One more reason to know

One more reason to know what you say is mindless dribble. You would do better to get a new crowd to hang with.  The funny thing is you cant produce anything that refutes the SB, only dribble.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Damn the Swifties, full spin ahead!

"Because it's such an ugly chapter in American political history."

Yea, the Truth hurts, doesn't it? Face it, Deborah, Kerry got caught with his khakis down and he paid the price for trying to use his imaginary Vietnam heroism in his campaign.

The Dirty Truth

The MSM want people to believe that the Swift boat sank Kerry, when everybody but the MSM knows the dirty truth is that Kerry lost because the majority of flag waving, lapel pin wearing, national anthem saluting Americans do not want an anti-American liberal as Commander-in-Chief. Take note Obamanites.

Is that it?

Wait a minute--that's it?  That was Debbie's challenging follow-up question--"I thought it was all invented"?

She believed something because someone told her.  Now she believes the opposite because the last person she spoke to told her differently?

The reporter has the attention span of a goose.  And the New York Times wonders why it's heading (deeper) into the toilet.

And Clay - Pickens did not apologize, either.

Clay. The LA Times did a story on Pickens last week, where the staff writer, Vimal Patel, vented his resident displeasure with Pickens over the Swift Boat deal. Get a load of this:

For Pickens, 80, it's not a complete turnabout. For instance, he hasn't apologized for funding the infamous Swift Boat attack ads in 2004 against the Democratic presidential campaign of Sen. John F. Kerry. But he is spending $58 million to advance what he calls "the Pickens Plan" to the country and its leaders.

(;~? Gary

T. Boone

The socialist-democrats so want to add T. Boone to there list of truncoats, but his proposed solution to high energy prices and too much dependence on unstable foreign sources is not meant to secure his place at their crazy table and it is only HIS proposed solution to these problems and awaits proposals from others.

By the above, it is not inferred that he take seriously Obama's tire inflation plan.

A typical NYT 'reporter'...

Solomon: Because it's such an ugly chapter in American political history.

Pickens: Oh, I see. Well, it was true. Everything that went into those ads was the truth.

Solomon: Really? I thought it was all invented.

He never did any research to see if they were true or not. He just assumed they were false because he didn't like them.

John Kerry discredited his own service by his actions both during his tour and after his return to the States. The only thing that the Swift-boat veterand did was point all hsi actions out and let the American public decide for themselves. How 'ugly' is that?

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Nice Research Solomon

Drinking their own koolaid these lefty reporters don't bother to do any research on any issues. Just believe what Moveon.org says as gospel truth!

so does this idiot want to revise what he said since what he believed wasn't true?

Amen Chasvs, the day these

Amen Chasvs, the day these yoyos come up with some facts to refute what the fine veterans of teh Swift Boats said about Kerry is the day hell will freeze over.  A million bucks is pretty good incentive.  The funny part is there were like a couple of handfulls against hundreds.  I wonder what those men under Kerry's command really think.  It bothers me that most of the men who served under Kerry were for him and supported his version.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

swiftboats

NYT are lying again......it just shows how arrogant they are. They obviously didn't read any of the book and/or listen to any of the veterans who stood by the book. I'm glad Pickens stood his ground.

Well at least the NYT

Well at least the NYT reporter is half right. It was ugly alright. But really what the swift boaters gave us was the 'ugly truth'. And I thank them for it. The 'ugly truth' kept a complete fraud like John Kerry out of the oval office. And we may not even need to 'swift boat' Obama since he's doing a rather fine job of it all by himself.

That's funny..

Ha...this coming from the Ugly Chapter of Record. :-P

Deborah, you ignorant...!

Deborah, you ignorant whatever!
