NY Times Reporter: McCain Trying to Live Down 'Warmonger' Reputation

John McCain's first major television ad of the general election campaign is an apparent attempt to inoculate himself from criticism of his support of the Iraq War by  underlining the fact that War Is Hell. New York Times reporter Julie Bosman used the opportunity (in the paper's regular Ad Campaign feature on Saturday) to suggest from out of nowhere that McCain had a "warmonger" reputation to live down.

If Mr. McCain has developed a reputation as a warmonger, with his strong support of the Iraq war and his campaign-trail jokes about bombing Iran (to the tune of the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann"), this advertisement is an effort to smooth over that perception. It also puts the best possible spin on his support for the unpopular Iraq war, a position that could be a political liability in November. Drawing on the McCain family's history of military service sends the message that Mr. McCain is rich in experience and strong on national security, two areas that have formed the core of his argument against Senator Barack Obama.

The only "reputation as a warmonger" McCain has appears to be in the mind of liberal talk-radio host Ed Schultz, who called him that at a North Dakota fundraiser for Barack Obama in April.

Rule of Thumb

If a story is in the New York Times, and it's about John McCain, then more then likely it's a lie.

Thank God for Warmongers

Churchill tried to live down the warmonger reputation too, until the Blitz...then they all cried out for the warmonger to save their asses.

It took warmonger Reagan to win the cold war and bring the Berlin Wall down.

And now George Warmonger Bush is kicking terrorist butt.

Right on! Add Lincoln, FDR, and those patriots who initiated the "war" for American independence.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

"The only "reputation as a

"The only "reputation as a warmonger" McCain has appears to be in the mind of liberal talk-radio host Ed Schultz..."

... and the NYT reporter writing the story.

BTW, the term "warmonger" is so Soviet.

NObama '08

Sure. He developed the

Sure. He developed the reputation of warmonger all by himself. Brace yourself for five more months of this insidious crap.

Another nice little touch: in the article, he's consistently called Mr. McCain, but BHO is SENATOR Obama. About as transparent as a tricky five yr. old.

Hey, eight years ago we had a whoremonger in the WH; I'd say this is a step up.

SoL... Hey, eight years

That says it all...priceless.

Compared to the NYT, anyone who talks about Iraq, is a monger

We are fortunate the NY TIMES still realizes there is a War going on in Iraq.  Since they do NOT report Good news....it's against their Religion.

Keep it UP NYT......Got any leftover Papers at the end of the Day ?   Sales down ?  Stock down ?  Debt rating falling ?  Anymore Layoffs on the way ?

You can increase all those Negatives....keep it up....

The Republican Revolution will not be Televised or reported.

Interesting.

Doesn’t the whole tone and approach of this NYT “article” sound like one of those dirty tricks that the Democrats were so insincerely worried about? Like the email they sent around warning about all of the nasty ways Karl Rove might raise questions about Obama.

They initiate their smear by associating with others.

Impunitas semper ad deteriora invitat.

I like a warmonger President

I think the world runs better when they're a little afraid of the USA.  We do much worse (as does the rest of the world) when we try to be everyone's friend.

NYT is trying to live down "non-patriot" reputation

The NYT liberal staff should be hanging its head in shame. Our soldiers have won great victories in Afghanistan and Iraq. (Today, our soldiers do very little fighting anymore, since in both countries vetted citizens have been well trained to deal with terrorists.)

The NYT times printed Abu Ghraib story 47 days in a row and could not honor our soldiers, that helped to put an end to as much of Al Qaida as possible, by printing respectful stories of praise, even a few days. And show me 47 days in a row of "praise" for our soldiers in the NYT.

IMHO, the NYT does not deserve the right, soldiers bled and died for, that is, freedom of press. I personally think of the NYT as a disgusting, evil, non-American, bigotted, elitist, "lost in space" dis-organization. Oh, did I say dis-organization instead of organization? Oh, well, maybe might mistake is correct.

Again, this is just my opinion.

Al Qaida is a warmonger, so you need a warmonger president

The NYT is too stupid to see that it takes a warmonger to deal with a warnmonger. Al Qaida, while beaten down in many places, is still able to come back and be the "warmonger" entity it was on 9-11. I will take a warmonger president any day, instead of any of the sissies the Democrats, liberals and NYT support.

Well, that is my opinion.

Warmongers defeat Al Qaida, NYT surrenders

George Warmonger Bush has defeated al Qaida on many fronts.

But lets do in the NYT way in the future:

- during the next 9-11 style attack (God forbid), instead of a warmonger president, the NYT expects us all to fold its newspapers into "Tomahawks" and throw them at domestic terrorists

- and when our soldiers go in after Al Qaida in other countries, they will be armed only with NYT papers folded as "Tomahawks".

At least these two ideas will help NYT failing circulation.

I mean we can fill warehouses full of NYT "Tomahawks" for a lot less than UAVs. I mean, don't you think Al Qaida is going to leave Americans alone because of the NYT op-ed pages, especially if we throw lots of these papers at them?

Well these are my opinions of the NYT.

PS: I think I saw a man the other day, who looked suspicious, walk into a "Porta-potty" with a few pages of the NYT and leave without the pages in his hand. Al Qaida terrorist? I could not tell.

Should I call the national hotline for supicious activity because this person looked suspicious or because of what I think he did with the NYT pages?

wdh... Or we could chew

wdh...

Or we could chew the pages and use them as Give 'Em Hell Zell says.."spitballs" to defeat the enemy...

I will never forget that!

After they are defeated let's see how the good old AP reports it, with Beth Fhuey(sp) leading the way...

Dangitall!

It is time for the monthly warmongers meeting. What are we warmongies gonna do without our buddy?

I would rather be in the warmonger club than the hippy envirofascist Islamo-appeasers wussie club.

Look, I did not mention anyone in particular up there nor did I mention a party. but someone is gonna take offense. hmm, i wonder who?
