New York Times reporters Michael Powell and Sarah Wheaton devoted an entire story to making fun of a Republican in Tuesday's "Romney Waxes Lyrical at a Holiday Parade in Florida."
"Mitt Romney, whose 1950s manner and celebratory drink of choice call to mind a milkshake man more than a rap singer, gave a shout out Monday that left no doubt that he had spent little time listening to hip-hop.
"Mr. Romney, the Republican candidate from Massachusetts by way of Michigan and Utah who enjoys a milkshake at the end of a long day, stopped by a staging area for a Martin Luther King Birthday parade here. In his dress shirt and tie, and with his unwavering smile, he walked over and posed for photographs with a group of black youngsters. Putting his arm around a teenage girl, he waved to the cameras and offered, 'Who let the dogs out?' He added a tepid 'woof woof.'
"Somewhere, the Baha Men, the Bahamian group whose 2000 song the candidate was referencing, must have been shuddering."
While the Times had fun with the stiff Romney, it didn't spare any room in Tuesday's edition for the image of a sleeping Bill Clinton at a Martin Luther King event at a Harlem church.

Romney
January 22, 2008 - 15:08 ET by wfanFirst of all I agree; second can Romney please go away. I love everything he says and I like him; but he cannot win this election. The dems will kill him and he will look like John Kerry times 10 based on his prior positions and alleged flip-flopping. I mean come on. We would have a field day with a candidate like this. And in no way does he have the fight in him to stand up to how hostile the media will be toward repubs in the general.
Nominate Rudy. Johnny Damon said so. And Adam Sandler soon to follow.
Someone (maybe a Dem, even)
January 22, 2008 - 15:19 ET by Chris NormanSomeone (maybe a Dem, even) described Romney as looking like "a BMW salesman". I don't why, but it tickled me. Whoever the GOP nominates, he better be a sharp debater to exploit Hillary's weaknesses. I'm afraid Romney will be too stiff and deer-in-the-headlights. At this point, I just don't know...

January 23, 2008 - 12:06 ET by misterbee241I dont know, I've always thought Romney looked like a department store mannequin. Artificial written all over him.
But if comes down to a choice between him or Hillary or Obama...

January 23, 2008 - 12:12 ET by Cool ArrowBut I think Romney is a principled man who will remember his promises or suffer the shame of being called on it.
We've pretty much spelled out what we want from a President, and he's pledged to fulfill every one of our demands.
I'm OK with holding him to his character and convictions.

January 22, 2008 - 15:23 ET by Gary P JacksonI like Rudy as much as the next guy, but he's not been playing. On the other hand Romney has roughly twice as many delegates as his closest competitor, so there's that. And if you think Romney won't rip Senator Clinton, or Junior Senator Obama apart, you haven't been paying attention! I'm sure Mitt is genuinely a nice guy, but he is not above taking the fight to the enemy! It would be a bloodbath in the general!

January 22, 2008 - 15:29 ET by Chris NormanGary,
I haven't looked at Romney's style that closely. Is he pretty fast on his feet? Will he have a campaign which can quickly counter the Clinton attack machine? If the race is close at all, it'll come down to the debates. Do you think Romney has the instinct and nerve to exploit the openings Hillary will provide? God love him, but we need someone better than George W in the debates, if we are to have any chance.

January 22, 2008 - 15:49 ET by Gary P JacksonYes, Romney is fast on his feet, and will have no problem wearing a dim out. As far as Bush, he made both Algore AND John "Reporting for duty" Kerry look stupid in the debates!
Two examples: My all time favorite, when Gore was going at Bush during one of their debates, and kind of got in Bush's face. (this was a debate where they walked freely around) Bush not only countered Gore, but then kind of give him that nod, basically saying I just kicked your butt! Classic. The other was in 2004 when Bush was asked in a debate to contrast Dick Cheney and John Edwards, as VPs. Bush simply said: "Dick Cheney can be President". There are others, but you get the idea.
I did forget those moments.

January 22, 2008 - 15:35 ET by motherbeltRomney's a good guy, but that was definitely a faux pas...adults shouldn't try to act like kids...
The first time I ever said "My bad" my 17-year-old daughter said, "Don't, Mom. Just don't." LOL
And I used to work with a woman who annoyed the hell out me because she said "awesome!" WAY too often for a woman old enough to have kids in high school.
Adults never come off looking good in those situations.

Outrageous I tell ya...outrageous.
On the other hand if the person sleeping during a speech by MLK the third had been one ex president say like Pres. Bush he would of been excoriated 24/7 on every single channel. with words from the likes of Jessssshhheee Jackson and Sharpton leading the way...Hillary chiming in loud and clear using it during her campaign fight...
Nope no hypocrisy here...no room for that story.
