In "Abandon Stereotypes, Muslims in America Say," his Tuesday story from a Muslim convention in Rosemont, Ill., New York Times reporter Neil MacFarquhar, who covers Muslims in America for the Times, again acted more like an advocate than an objective reporter.
"It is time for the United States to stop treating every American Muslim as somehow suspect, leaders of the faith said at their largest annual convention, which ended here on Monday….The image problems were among the topics most discussed by many of the 30,000 attendees. A fresh example cited was an open letter from two Republican House members, Peter Hoekstra of Michigan and Sue Myrick of North Carolina, that attacked the Justice Department for sending envoys to the convention because, the lawmakers said, the Islamic Society of North America was a group of 'radical jihadists.'"
If MacFarquhar had bothered to read the letter instead of parroting the organization's talking points, he would have known that it didn't call the Islamic Society of North America itself "radical jihadists." Here's some of the text, as reported by the Washington Times:
"In light of the threat that our nation…is currently facing from radical jihadists, and because of the president's commitment to fighting the war on terror on all fronts, we believe it is a grave mistake to provide legitimacy to an organization with extremist origins, leadership and a radical agenda."
MacFarquhar continued:
"The lone Muslim in Congress, Representative Keith Ellison, Democrat of Minnesota, the keynote speaker here, dismissed the letter as ill informed and typical of bigoted attacks that other minorities have suffered."
MacFarquhar avoided mentioning an actual inflammatory statement made by Ellison in July, as reported by the Associated Press.
"At an appearance before a group of atheists in Minnesota on July 8, Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., called Sept. 11 'the juggernaut' that led to war, tolerating torture and increased discrimination against religious minorities.
"'It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that,' he said. 'After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and it put the leader of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted.'"
More of MacFarquhar's pro-Muslim talking points:
"Leaders of American Muslim organizations attribute the growing intolerance to three main factors: global terrorist attacks in the name of Islam, disappointing reports from the Iraq war and the agenda of some supporters of Israel who try taint Islam to undermine the Palestinians.
"American Muslims say they expect the attacks to worsen in the presidential election and candidates to criticize Islam in an effort to prove that they are tough on terrorism."

o-k, I'll do it! . . .maybe..
September 4, 2007 - 14:56 ET by Mica the MagnificentI guess I'll have to do it myself! As I stated before, in order to expose the NY Times or PBS or any other liberal media outlet for their hypocrisy I decided I must consider doing the following:
I am considering entering the lobby of the NY Times with a trenchcoat and common lifejacket on, with enough of a disguise to look middle-eastern, and stand there starting and stopping my stopwatch until I am profiled by a TIMES editor and become a FOX NEWS ALERT and the NYC SWAT team has me trained in their crosshairs and the reporters and editors of the TIMES are jumping for their lives from the windows of their offices into the awaiting nets of the FDNY and I am taken out by a . . . . .
But then again . . . I think Mr. MacFahrquar should do this; to show the non-biased, non- profiling stuff the TIMES is made out of.
Kinda like putting your life where your rhetoric is.

September 4, 2007 - 15:53 ET by drillanwrYour plan might work if you never say anything while there ... Also, your defense for having worn the life vest would be you heard that NYC would be 12 feet under water when the ice melted and the oceans rose from GW ... (killing 2 pooping birds with one stone, doncha know ...) Then, after they release you from the local mental ward after 48 hrs. observation you can begin showing up on cable TV news programs and explain why you did what you did (a socio-scientific experiment) in proving that the NYTimes is guilty of profiling wouldbe terrorists ... even though they (their writers/editors) condemn such security practices ...
Also, MacFahrquar ... wasn't he the creepy little king in SHREK?
What makes Muslims so special?
September 4, 2007 - 18:59 ET by Lame CherryI want to know why the New York Times deems Muslims so special to not be looked at?
There was a kind of big war in the 1800's with the Mormons and the United States government, David Koresh got roasted and babies got toasted by the United States government and Janet Reno had that nice memo which stated Bill Graham was an enemy of the state like all Christians who believe in the second coming of Christ.
The Times seems to have no problem with any of the above and probably celebrated it.
So if people who have an affinity with Jesus.........you know the Pilgrims, the Huegunots of France, the settlers at Jamestown who got ran out of Europe while Catholics were burning Joan of Arc at the stake......the people who founded America........had to put up with governments not looking at them but murdering them........I believe Muslims can be looked at without harm just like the rest of us.
In the Muslim case until they acknowledge Jesus as their savior, prove like the Amish they are harmless as flies.........they can sit under the FBI microscope as I don't see Christians trying to buy nukes to blow up western cities and I don't see Jews launching their nukes nor giving them to "Jewish terrorists"........as there are no such thing as Jewish or Christian terrorists.....only Muslim.

Turning 9/11 into opportunity for Muslims
September 4, 2007 - 20:07 ET by nkviking75Ironic how 9/11 has provided so many opportunities to promote Islam in this country. White guilt has many people, especially libs, tying themselves in knots trying to be "fair" to Muslims and downplaying the Muslim factions that truly are a threat to this country.
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
I don't give a damn what Muslim-Americans say about anything.
September 4, 2007 - 22:10 ET by Dave RThey have more than had their chance to speak out, yet they have been utterly silent.
Unless they speak out against the more radical elements of their "religion," then, as far as I am concerned, they condone the murderous scum 100%.
Time to round 'em up and send 'em packing. Let them contaminate someone elses country. As far as I am concerened, Muslims are no-longer welcome here.
