The Feds' War on Religion (Part 1 of 2)
Anyone who knows me knows that for my whole life, I've been a huge supporter of our U.S. military personnel, whom I congratulate about their victory in Iraq. But when our president and officials in the U.S. Department of Defense exchange a war abroad for a religious war at home, can't we see that something else is seriously awry in this administration?
It's one thing to watch "merry Christmas" be omitted from signs in your favorite department store but quite another to see Bibles withheld from wounded warriors at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. It's true! On Dec. 2, the Family Research Council reported that it had discovered a memo released in September at the esteemed military hospital, in which Navy officials announced that "no religious items (including Bibles, reading material, and/or artifacts) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit."
Thank God for those in the FRC, as well as Rep. Randy Forbes and other members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, who demanded to meet with officials at Walter Reed and in the Navy about the matter. Just a few days ago, Vice Adm. John Mateczun confessed that the memo had not been properly evaluated and was being rescinded, and Walter Reed posted a public apology on its website.
But imagine if the FRC had not found this memo. Imagine how many others like it aren't found and are circulated around the federal government.
If you think this is an isolated incident, consider the following dozen-plus examples reported in the past six months alone by the FRC and Rep. Forbes' office and a few of my own I found, which document how religious freedom and Christian liberty in particular have been limited, quarantined, omitted or outright obliterated.
--The Air Force Academy apologized for merely announcing Operation Christmas Child --a Christian-based charity and relief program designed to send holiday gifts to impoverished children around the world.
--Yet the Air Force is building an $80,000 Stonehenge-like worship site for "earth-based" religions, including "pagans, Wiccans, druids, witches and followers of Native American faiths."
--The Marine Corps considered tearing down a Camp Pendleton cross meant to honor fallen heroes.
--Air Force officials stripped religious curriculum from a 20-year-old course on "just war theory."
--The Department of Veterans Affairs censored references to God and Jesus during prayers at Houston National Cemetery.
--The Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate passed the $662 billion National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, which included a repeal of Article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which states: "Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy."
--The Department of Health and Human Services unveiled new health care rules that ignore basic conscience protections for medical workers with faith-based objections to abortion and contraception.
--Officials at HHS denied funding for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' successful program for sex trafficking victims because of the church's teaching on human life.
--Administration officials refused to intervene in the closing of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.
--President Barack Obama has lobbied for the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would trample on the faith of employers in hiring, firing and promotion decisions.
--The Pentagon released new regulations that force chaplains to perform same-sex "weddings" despite their religious objections.
--Secretary of State Hillary Clinton demonized other countries' religious beliefs as an obstacle to radical homosexual rights.
--Just this past week, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation sent a letter to officials at Travis Air Force Base, demanding the removal or transfer of a Nativity scene and a menorah that are part of a larger holiday display on the base.
What is going on in the U.S. military? Why is it so difficult for the feds to understand the free exercise clause of the First Amendment, which says they "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"?
And how many of these restrictions of our religious liberties are direct results of President Obama's being in office? And if these occurred in just the past six months, imagine what would happen in another four years if Obama were to be re-elected. Our service members, as well as our devoted military Christian chaplains, deserve better.
Gone are the days when the commander in chief rallied the troops and nation with a religious presidential call as Ronald Reagan and Franklin D. Roosevelt did. FDR declared in his Christmas address to the nation Dec. 24, 1944 (the first Christmas after D-Day): "Here, at home, we will celebrate this Christmas Day in our traditional American way because of its deep spiritual meaning to us; because the teachings of Christ are fundamental in our lives; and because we want our youngest generation to grow up knowing the significance of this tradition and the story of the coming of the immortal Prince of Peace and Good Will. ... We pray that with victory will come a new day of peace on earth, in which all the nations of the earth will join together for all time. That is the spirit of Christmas, the holy day. May that spirit live and grow throughout the world in all the years to come."
(Watch Reagan's 1981 Christmas greeting to the nation on YouTube. It's titled "Ronald Reagan Christmas address (12/23/81).")
In many respects, we need to turn back the clock in America to our founding principles, values and liberties, and those include the intricate and pivotal role that religion and Christianity played in our early republic. It is time not to flee religious liberties, but to re-embrace them, especially during this sacred Christmas week. I'll do just that in Part 2 when I specifically share with you the beliefs I know can restore our homes and country.
(In continued support of our military, I'm inviting everyone to join my wife, Gena, and me on Jan. 7 for the premiere of the documentary "Answering the Call," about my trips to Iraq to encourage the troops. You can get tickets via http://www.KickStartKids.org. I also encourage participation in care packages for our troops via http://www.Give2TheTroops.org and, as we recently did, via Operation Patriot Care Package to those in Afghanistan, mission excerpts of which will be aired on Sean Hannity's Fox News Channel show Dec. 23 and posted at http://www.PatriotCarePackage.com.)

Sadness

It's sad to see the brass in the military kowtow to the liberal left. They don't support the military. They want the military budget slashed to nothing. It is the conservative, Republican Christians that are the biggest supporters of the military. Yet they choose to spit on Christianity and it's moral values, and embrace the immoral, the pagan and the intolerant. What a shame.

I agree with Chuck except for one thing. The Attacks are against Christian Faith and Beliefs. The others get a free pass, particularly Muslim-Islam

Check out a website called 'Digital Publius', if you haven't already. There is a great article right at the top that addresses why 'leftists secularism' doesn't attack other religions like it does Christianity. It's a little thing Jesus spoke of about "..a house divided against itself cannot stand..". They need not go after every religion, because they, in fact, just want to extinguish truth. It is the truth in Christ that drives their hatred and animosity, not the fact that it is a 'religion'.
I had noted how a leader of the Freedom from Religion foundation was being interviewed about their campaign to remove a Nativity scene in Texas when he stated (accidentally, I believe) that they should be able to put up an 'anti-Christian' display. This came after all his usual blathering about "diversity, separation of church and state,...yada, yada...", then out pops the truth...oops, it's about contempt for Christianity, that is all.
No to Christmas

The U.S. capital Christmas tree has no ornaments honoring Jesus, His birth or any other Christmas theme but has one that says "I love President Obama".
Is there any doubt that Obabble and his supporters consider him to be our lord and savior?
Jesus Loves You so much He died for you

Having an ornament on the tree saying "I (heart) Obama" is pretty much something the Dear Leader in North Korea would have done.

Ok, this is about the ornaments on the tree, I saw it somewhere else too.

with a picture. Admit, it, that's kind of creepy for any president to have on their tree.
He must not have known about this ornament, or it would be on too. ;)

That was certainly an impressive piece of investigative reporting by CNS. One wonders if they were as assiduously inquisitive during the previous administration when religious-themed ornaments were explicitly banned.

PS...Just noticed the angelic Obama ornament. I'm wondering if they can make one with my likeness. There's a spot right in the center of our tree that would be perfect for it.

The angel comment proves it, your real name is Tim and your upstairs pretending to take a nap after work, because that is EXACTLY what my husband would say.
So Tim, stop with the pseudonym already.

Hmm...no, but I have a brother named Tim, and he likes to nap a lot. Plus, he thinks highly of himself.

Sure.
By the way, I'm not finding any info on Bush's not using religious ornaments. Laura Bush, however, refused to use an ornament that said "Impeach Bush" on it. Odd isn't it?

from snopes:
....The misunderstanding seems to have originated with the fact that during the eight years of the George W. Bush administration, First Lady Laura Bush chose particular (non-religious) themes for the White House Christmas trees, and then sent ornaments to related organizations and asked them to select artists to decorate them in accordance with the given
theme. In 2007, for example, the theme was "Holiday in the National Parks," and ornaments were sent to each of the 391 national parks in the United States for decoration. Likewise, for a "Red, White and Blue Christmas" in 2008, Mrs. Bush asked members of Congress to pick artists to decorate ornaments showcasing the 435 congressional districts in the United States....
As for the claim about a supposed ban on Christmas tree ornaments bearing religious themes, the closest match appears to be an earlier brouhaha involving the Capitol Christmas Tree, which is set up every Christmas holiday season on the West Front lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Each year one of the fifty states is afforded the honor of supplying that season's Capitol Christmas Tree, along with 75 smaller trees to be dispersed around the Capitol, and residents of that state are invited to create and submit ornaments for display on those trees. (In 2009, that honor fell to the state of Arizona.)
The Capitol Christmas Tree program spurred a controversy in the autumn of 2009 over guidelines issued to the sponsoring U.S. Forest Service agency by the Architect of the U.S. Capitol's Office stating that submitted ornaments could not reflect religious or political themes. However, according to that agency, those were outdated regulations that had been inadvertently disseminated via the Capitol Christmas Tree web site and had since been rescinded:
There was information that no religious or political ornaments would be allowed on the tree.
But according to USDA forest service spokesman Jim Payne, it came from old information posted on the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree website and has since been removed.
Payne said the only restrictions on the ornaments is that they have to be weatherproof and meet size requirements.
An examination of past Capitol Christmas Tree web sites shows that a prohibition on religiously-themed ornaments was indeed in effect over at least the past few years (prior to the Obama administration), although that policy apparently did not become a target of organized protest until 2009. Ornament criteria information linked from the 2008 site, for example, states that:
Ornaments cannot reflect a religious or political theme. Instead, share your interpretation of our theme "Sharing Montana's Treasures."
Likewise, participant information linked from the 2007 site directs that:
Ornament[s] with religious themes are not acceptable.

Make sure your ornament is at eye-level, just like Obama's. Messiah product placement at 4 feet high, selling himself like a supermarket sells cereal.
Regarding ANY previous administrations 'banning' of religious icons, etc., you should know better, if true that is called cow-towing. It doesn't mean it was Bush's idea or explicit demand, it means he cowered in PC before the activist busy-bodies infecting our Nation. You know it's a common complaint among Cons and Libs when our "leaders" submit like castrati. The differences here, obviously to most, is that if Obama weren't President, he would be just another one of those agitating, activist busy-bodies and that there weren't Bush or Mao or RuPaul ornaments during the previous administration.
