Gay Activist on Behar Show: 'Conservative' Hollywood will Sideline Anne Hathaway for Leaving Catholic Church

The once-Disney princess Anne Hathaway recently announced to a cheering media that she was leaving the Catholic Church due to its "limited view" on her homosexual brother. Even though the media haven't stopped clapping, Michelangelo Signorile, a gay activist and talk radio host, warned on "The Joy Behar Show" that Hathaway may be temporarily sidelined by the conservative bigwigs in Hollywood.

"I think that it's the powers that be that has the problem," Signorile said to Behar on Feb. 9. "Hollywood, ya know, it's the money. The conservatives - the money is always conservative, and they're always afraid."

What kind of rock has Signorile been leaving under? Is this the same "conservative" Hollywood that signed a petition to free Roman Polanski, the movie director that raped a 13-year-old girl and then fled the country? The same Hollywood that celebrates Michael Moore? The entertainment industry that gave a record $48.6 million in campaign contributions in 2008 - 78 percent of it to Democrats?

Signorile's delusions seem to cut both ways. He said that the public would set these conservatives straight by embracing Hathaway because "the public can deal with it."

"I think most Catholics realize that the institution is still a few centuries behind," Signorile said, referring to the issue of sexual orientation and gay marriage.

The latest Pew Research Poll, however, found no such thing. In fact, less than a third of Catholics that attend church on a weekly basis support gay marriage.
