The Washington Post’s Wonkblog presented another way for liberals to hate on masculinity by connecting masculinity to a liberal cause du jour: climate change.
“Your manliness could be hurting the planet,” reporter Danielle Paquette wrote.
Paquette reported on Aug. 31, that men shunned environmentalism because they perceived it as feminine.
She cited the Journal of Consumer Research which theorized that “men may be motivated to avoid or even oppose green behaviors in order to safeguard their gender identity."
The New York Times similarly suggested in August of 2015 that maleness contributed to global warming when it said the “office formula” of low temperatures at work “was devised for men.”
Times writer Pam Belluck cited a study from the journal Nature Climate Change which said “setting temperatures at slightly warmer levels can help combat global warming.”
But according to the another lefty outlet NPR, fighting climate change uniquely challenges women. Correspondent Jennifer Ludden’s Aug. 18, article and radio segment asked, “Should We Be Having Kids In The Age Of Climate Change?”
Ludden cited John’s Hopkins University philosopher Travis Rieder who argued society should protect children from future climate catastrophe by “not having them.”
“There's also a moral duty to future generations that will live amid the climate devastation being created now,” Ludden wrote. She also cited non-profit Conceivable Future which said climate change was a “reproductive crisis.”
