MSNBC Features Top Obama Official to Laughably Tout the President's 'Balanced Budget'

By Brent Scher | February 13, 2012 | 19:16

A  A

MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports on Monday featured the Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to bizarrely state that Barack Obama had introduced a "balanced budget." Unfortunately for Jeffery Zients and the liberal cable network, it is hard to hide the fact that the President’s proposal actually projects a budget deficit of $1.33 trillion for the fiscal year 2012, according to the Wall Street Journal.

When asked what he thought about the Republican Senate renaming the proposal ‘Debt on Arrival,’ Zients stated, “I think the President has put forward today a balanced budget.” For the country to have a balanced budget, its spending must match its revenue, and the country has not come close to that feat in some time now. Obama’s proposal marks the fourth straight year of budget deficits exceeding a trillion dollars. [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

Zients went on to explain how he reached the "balanced" label.  Zients attempted to add clarity, but fell far short. He reasoned, “First of all, the President invests and makes immediate investments in job creation, starting with making sure that the payroll tax cut continues, and that we do not have a tax increase on 160 million Americans....At the same time, we have year over year of deficit reduction, leading to a stable debt to GDP ratio by 2018.  So it’s balanced, in that we have immediate job creation and then we have deficit reduction.  And the deficit reduction itself is done in a balanced way."

This seems to be an attempt by the White House to attach the label of ‘balanced’ to a budget that falls far from it.  This comes at a time when the White House flatly rejects calls for a Balanced Budget amendment, and there seems to be no chance for an actually balanced budget in the foreseeable future.

ANDREA MITCHELL: And right now, Senate Republicans are reacting to the President’s budget proposal on Capitol Hill, this is Senator Barrasso.

SEN. BARRASSO:  I believe this president has abandoned his role as leader of this nation by not being honest with the American people about the significance of the national debt. And that’s why, somebody asked me if this budget was ‘dead on arrival, and I said ‘no, no, it’s not dead on arrival, it's debt on arrival.’

ANDREA MITCHELL: With us now is acting Budget Director, Jeffrey Zients, thanks so much.   First of all, they renamed your budget  debt on arrival. What is your response to that?

JEFFREY ZIENTS: I think the President has put forward today a balanced budget.  Balanced in two ways. First of all, the President invests and makes immediate investments in job creation, starting with making sure that the payroll tax cut continues, and that we do not have a tax increase on 160 million Americans.  The President also has proposals to put Americans back to work, on infrastructure projects, to modernize our schools, to help rebuild our neighborhoods. At the same time, we have year over year of deficit reduction, leading to a stable debt to GDP ratio by 2018.  So it’s balanced, in that we have immediate job creation and then we have deficit reduction.  And the deficit reduction itself is done in a balanced way. $2.50 of spending cuts for every dollar of new revenue. So I think this is a responsible budget and we hope Congress takes it seriously and passes it's into law soon.

Joe Wilson was Right.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

Joe Wilson's utterance was in response to Obama's promise that Socialized healthcare wouldn't include government funded abor . . . OOPS . . . never mind.

Correction: Wilson responded to the President's promise Obamacare would not cover illegal immigrants. Another lie.

Spending Cuts

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 7:28pm.

If we cut the salary of the President by $1.00, and extrapolate that over a trillion years, I guess we've cut $1,000,000,000,000.00 in spending. This is easy.

I would venture to guess that Greenspan thinks his wife would make a great Congressperson.

Obama is now redefining the term "balanced budget.' It no longer means spending no more than the revenue available to pay for it. It means deficit spending across a spectrum goverment programs to include those that failed as recently as two years ago.

This joins the last year's refining of the term "humanitarian operations" to include dropping bombs and missiles on somebody.

It's Orwellian.

Life is death, lies are truth, war is peace, good is bad, balanced budget is a $1.3 Trillion deficit. Glad they were able to clear that up for me. I have a hard time with that liberal math.

Glad to know Newspeak is live and well.

Only Liberals Are Dumb Enough

Submitted by HardRightTurn on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:57pm.

To believe that Obama's budget is balanced and that it takes 60 votes in the Senate to pass a budget. Lies, lies, lies and more lies. It's no wonder liberals are so incapable of achieving success and have to resort to taking it from those who do.

To more fully comprehend the Left, one must read “Leftism As Psychopathy” by John Ray, M.A., Ph.D. Caution, it might scare you a little bit.

Words, just words

Submitted by jaywl on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:59pm.

I think it is in Rules for Radicals, one of Bama's favorites, that one finds that words are to be used to an end, not necessarily to be used as other people use them. Like the plain definition, you see. He and his suckups have taken this to new heights. It is sad that the MSM has so abandoned its standards that this administration has realized it can say anything, anything, and not fear exposure to the public.

And in a similiar vein, I see

Submitted by killa37 on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 10:48pm.

And in a similiar vein, I see that our gutless, spineless, ball-less 'leaders' on the Republican side of the aisle have rolled over and exposed their tiny genitals to the big dog with regards to the 2% payroll (read: unemployment benefits) 'cut'.

With that in mind, and listening to Twitch McDumdum trying to talk cocky this morning about Boy Barry's new budget offer, I'll be interested in seeing what 'bad-asses' they really turn out to be...............they'll probably bend over again, so that they don't look like 'evil Republicans' to the MSM and the StateRun Media - who don't care how nice they act, because they'll STILL knife'um in the back anyway.

No...........I take that back.............they knife'um right to their face, with total disrespect and disdain, because they know they can.
