Bozell Column: Arizona, The Racist State?

By Brent Bozell | June 26, 2012 | 23:05

Brent Bozell's picture

Though the Supreme Court overturned much of the Arizona law, but not the part the liberals and their media friends loathed the most, it wasn't hard to predict the networks would once again line up with the amnesty lobby. ABC's Diane Sawyer mourned "the most inflammatory part of the law" was upheld.

Once again, those impartial network producers are making themselves the sob sisters of illegal aliens. ABC found a man who carries a document in his glove compartment insisting that if he's deported, his children shouldn't go into foster care. NBC put on a woman watching cartoons with her cute little kids, wearing a T-shirt saying "Arrest [Sheriff Joe] Arpaio, Not the People." Reporter Savannah Guthrie predicted more lawsuits to repeal the one section the court upheld – because liberals never accept defeat. It's so predictable.

So predictable, in fact, that now there is no pretense of objectivity whatsoever.  ABC's Diane Sawyer also turned to one of the most biased journalists in America, Univision anchor Jorge Ramos, who just pounds the drum for amnesty at every opportunity. Yes, a news anchor. He lamented the Supreme Court decision, saying "the last hope is gone," and blamed both parties for failing to pass "major immigration reform." Sawyer asked him to tell the stories of Latinos, and he summarized, "It's fear, and fear of persecution in the future."

Entering  the country illegally is no longer an abuse of law. Illegal aliens are victims, never victimizers. Nor will networks dare focus on the costs of illegal immigration - starting with crime, but adding tax dollars for health care, welfare, and education spending. Are there stories to tell? How about the story about the intoxicated illegal alien in Virginia who plowed into a car full of nuns, killing one and injuring two. But that would damage the narrative.

The whole thing was a repeat of 2010. When the Media Research Center analyzed 50 stories produced by the networks in a ten-day period in April and May, the slant was equally unbelievable. The tone was strongly hostile to the law and promotional to the "growing storm" of left-wing protesters: 37 stories (or 74 percent) were negative, 10 were neutral, and only three were positive toward the Arizona law's passage. That's a ratio of 12 to 1.

The soundbite count was also slanted, with 92 quotes against the law and only 52 in favor. The pro-law side, however, was largely on the defensive against liberal charges that they were racists or favored racial profiling. On eleven occasions, the networks even forwarded smears that proponents of the Arizona law were like Nazis or Civil War-era slaveholders.

NBC's Andrea Mitchell said Arizona was becoming a "laughingstock," and then showed "Saturday Night Live" fake-news anchor Seth Meyers joking "So heads up, Arizona. That's fascism. I know, I know, it's a dry fascism, but it's still fascism." Then Jon Stewart compared Arizona's request for papers to "the same thing free black people had to do in 1863."

Remember this the next time NBC whines about super PACs making our politics ugly.

By contrast, left-wing protesters were never once described as "liberal." No, they're "Latino activists" or "civil rights activists." One might assume the left was in the majority. ABC's David Muir described an "angry backlash from coast to coast. Huge rallies across this country tonight against that new controversial immigration law." Only five of the 50 stories then mentioned the Arizona law was broadly favored by 70 percent of the public. So much for that "huge" opposition.

Underlying this entire journalistic crusade in every year is the fervent hope that minorities will vote overwhelmingly Democratic. NBC and MSNBC reports its poll showing Obama beating Romney 61 to 27 percent among Latinos so often one must assume it gives them a Chris Matthews-style thrill up their legs.

President Obama clearly sided against Arizona law enforcers when he put out a race-card statement after the high court decision saying "No American should ever live under a cloud of suspicion just because of what they look like." This principle obviously does not extend to white police officers.

Republicans obviously would like to appeal to Latino voters, to every voter. Their challenge is a national press corps that tries nightly to poison the waters, implying that Latinos should vote for Obama as a matter of ethnic survival. They mock the conservatives as "dry fascists" and slaveholders. They claim to solemnly oppose dividing the country by race. Don't believe it. They thrive on it. "Wedge issues" are fantastic...when they help liberals acquire power.

Every illegal alien is a criminal. Every illegal alien has either stolen a job from an American or has stolen tax dollars. The illegal aliens love Mexico so much we should encated their immigration laws.

breaking into an empty camp to get shelter is a crime.
purposely violating a sovereign nations borders is (the first time) a civil offense.
our whole border policy is an enemy agents wet dream, we need to treat breaking and entering into the country as the horrific crime it really is.
we'll gang rape an an airline traveler in the (fake) name of security while giving a border violater a reach around. yet that reach around allowed the people in who caused 911 and created our gang rape setups.
whats wrong with that picture?

The race card.

Submitted by Gary A.A. on Wed, 06/27/2012 - 1:18pm.

Sadly, once again, in an effort to hoodwink the public, the race card will be played by Democrats. More sadly, Democrats seem to have forgotten that Lincoln was a Republican. Of course, fabrication of issues masquerading as facts is an attempt by Democrats to distract from the real issues of deficits, jobs and politics as usual.

Wow, the only issue that ever supersedes our alleged hatred and, thus, denial of rights to the 1% gay population is the alleged hatred of 'brown-skinned dreamers' and, thus, the denial of the 'rights' of illegal border-jumpers.

Note to the illegal woman in the t-shirt, Arpaio is more 'The People' than you are, hon. Now go have a drink and hit and run some citizen with your uninsured car.

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Wed, 06/27/2012 - 8:22am.

You're obviously on some serious meds.

Why, exactly, is it a bad idea for AMERICANS of Hispanic descent to drive in Arizona? Let's hear it asshole. Throw some more inane BS against the wall. You obviously don't even use water for your Kool-Aid. You just chug it down in pure powder form.

I believe I speak for many when I say I am getting sick and tired of bloviating nitwits like you who don't have the first clue about the subject spewing idiotic talking points to perpetuate lies.

Listen carefully Moron: IF YOU ARE AMERICAN, YOU CAN'T BE DEPORTED. IF YOU'RE PULLED OVER IN ARIZONA AND ASKED TO PROVE YOUR CITIZENSHIP, SHOW YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE (and BTW, if you're pulled over, it's because you broke a law, NOT because you're "brown"). YOU SHOW YOUR LICENSE, AND YOU'RE FREE TO GO (after getting yor ticket, of course) ARIZONA'S LAW SPECIFICALLY PRECLUDES RACIAL PROFILING. NO ONE WILL BE CHALLENGED WHO DOESN'T FIRST BREAK THE LAW.

Got all that, Dip$hit? I'll repeat it if you missed any of it. How about this for a suggestion - Go away, close your pie-hole, get a clue, grow a few more brain cells, AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, stop chewing Kool-Aid!

You know what Restless?

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Wed, 06/27/2012 - 2:56pm.

I am ashamed not to have thought of this perspective myself! In predominantly Latino/Hispanic/whatever locations, LOTS of law enforcement officers are bound to be Latino/Hispanic/whatever.

I actually let the dems hoodwink me! The picture in my head was a white cop dealing with a Hispanic. I never even aassociated a Hispanic vs a Hispanic citizen (maybe). I didn't realize until now how effective dem propaganda really is. Usually, my attitude is that if a dem is speaking, they're lying. But, without even realizing it, I swallowed this hook.

Why has no one ever countered with this point, like Sherriff Joe or Jan Brewer? What an incredible comeback!

Thanks for alleviating my ignorance Restless!

suspected Illegal aliens can checked in Arizona but nothing done about them. The State and local officials can't arrest them and the Federal ICE has been told to stop cooperating with Arizona and not answer their calls.

So what will happen? Illegal aliens who want to commit crimes will flock to Arizona. They can't be deported unless they are already wanted for a felony. Crime in Arizona will jump and more and more innocent people (both legal residents and illegal aliens) will be injured and killed.

If I were a resident of Arizona, I would get myself armed and practice a lot because very soon you are going to need to protect yourself.

Breaking and entering~

Submitted by GG_NB on Wed, 06/27/2012 - 2:33pm.

It's breaking and entering into a country, instead of into a home. It's as simple as that. It's against the law. Anything gained (job, benefits, etc.) from breaking in is stealing.

Isn't doing something illegal still wrong? Silly me. The definition changed somewhere along the way -- an "illegal" hasn't necessarily done anything wrong. I have sat countless times with my mouth hanging open, listening to lib pundits/politicians/media (with straight faces) say that just because someone is an illegal doesn't mean they aren't a real American citizen -- or variations on that theme. What?!?

I feel so sorry for the Arizonia citizens. Reallllly nice move by the O Administration -- three hours after the Supreme Court decision came down -- pulling out ICE support once illegals are discovered. Yeah, O, you really care a lot about the Arizona citizens. Just leave them with this huge mess and very dangerous situation. I can't imagine what Arizonia will do now.

But if anyone will keep the fight going, it's Jan Brewer.

Indeed.

How many people in AZ were murdered by illegals in the last 3 years under Obama's reign of malfeasance and incompetence? How many children were molested? How many women were raped? How many DUIs by illegals resulted in injury, death and property damage? It is very foolish of liberals to open the door to an issue that lends itself very easily to the Willie Horton narrative. If I were the Gov. of AZ, I would direct the State bureaucrats to compile statistics and publish them in October of how many victims there are based on Obama's insistence on refusing to uphold the law. I would go full Horton on Obama's sorry butt.

Illegals are not victims but perps. Their victims number in the thousands and I'm not even counting the felony called Identity Theft. It would be no exaggeration to assert hundreds of people (citizens) would be alive today but for being gunned down, stabbed or run down by illegal aliens. What do you expect of a group of people who regularly commit multiple felonies by working in the US? Did you really expect them to observe any other laws? RUBE!

Lawyers. Maybe Shakespeare was on to something. ---

Submitted by matthewdean on Wed, 06/27/2012 - 5:37pm.

From June 19th, 2012:

A California State Bar committee is recommending that Sergio Garcia, an illegal immigrant, receive a law license in a first-ever case for the California Supreme Court that could affect others like him who hope to follow in his footsteps.

Updated at 445 p.m. ET -- An illegal immigrant applying for a law license in California should be allowed to receive it, the State Bar of California argues in a filing to the state Supreme Court.

Sergio Garcia, 35, of Chico, Calif., has met the rules for admission, including passing the bar exam and the moral character review, and his lack of legal status in the United States should not automatically disqualify him, the Committee of Bar Examiners said Monday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“ … Mr. Garcia’s status in the United States, should not, ipso facto, be grounds for excluding him from law licensure. He has met all of the prescribed qualifications and there is no reason to believe he cannot take the oath and faithfully uphold his duties as an attorney,” the bar said.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And a lawyer, having a college education, should not be considered, ipso facto, to be endowed with common sense.
