Bozell Presses Current TV Chairman Al Gore to 'Repudiate' Employee Bill Press's Slam of National Anthem

Update: A similar letter was sent to Comcast Chairman Brian L. Roberts | Editor's Note: What follows is NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell's June 13 open letter to Current TV chairman Al Gore.

The Star-Spangled Banner evokes feelings of pride and patriotism in most Americans. But not in Bill Press, who slurred our National Anthem as an "abomination."

The Current TV host hates the National Anthem so much that he is "embarrassed" every time he hears it.

As a former Vice President and Bill Press’s current employer, I haven’t read or heard where you have condemned Bill Press for his hateful, offensive and unpatriotic slurring of The Star-Spangled Banner.

As a left-wing elitist uncomfortable with the idea of American exceptionalism, Bill Press finds the notion that America is the home of the brave “stupid.”

Mr. Press is equally disgusted by the "military jargon" that pervades the defining patriotic song of the nation. Apparently, your employee is dismissing the fact that Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. The so-called military jargon Bill Press finds so deplorable is an ode to American patriots fighting and dying to save our young republic; it is indispensable to the Anthem.

Mr. Gore, Bill Press’s comments were outside the realm of civil discourse. I call on you to promptly condemn and repudiate his vicious slurring of our beloved National Anthem.

Failure to do so would signal tacit endorsement of Bill Press’s comments.

I look forward to your statement. As soon as we get your reply, we will post it on our site.

Ditto.

Ain't gonna happen.

Liberals look forward to the day when they can permanently erase all vestiges of this once great nation.

Here's my two cents worth: they will have to erase me and thousands of former and current military personnel before you can get it done.

So Press, if you want to start that process yourself, call me.  I'll be glad to give you the first shot, if you're fast enough, you Poppa Oscar Sierra. (That military jargon enough for you, asshole?)

Time to drop the "polite statesmanship" and hit these bastards right in the face.  If I hear one more "conservative" say, "My good friend on the other side of the aisle," I'm gonna puke.  The only reason "to reach across the aisle" is to smack the Shiite out of one of them.

Drop polite statesmanship

Submitted by Model850 on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 2:41pm.

Time to drop the "polite statesmanship" and hit these bastards right in the face.

I recently received a survey from the RNC purportedly to help in shaping the platform for the election. At the end of the survey form were places to indicate "support" with a donation.

I didn't send any money. But in the space for additional comments I wrote something to the effect of "When the RNC takes off the gloves and starts hitting the Democrats hard then maybe I'll consider donating."

We have them cornered and they know it. They know their grand experiment of the last century is going down the throat of America as smoothely as Epicac. They started this and we shall finish it. They will live by our rules now.

Bill Press is free

Submitted by c5then on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 11:11am.

To renounce his citizenship and become a Canadian citizen (if they will have him - not sure how he feels about standing on GOD for Canada) or maybe he would rather be a British subject and look at the United States national anthem from the side that was at war with us when it was written ( is he willing to sing "God save the [insert monarch gender of the moment]"?)

Regardless, there are a hundred options for him to chose from. Pick one from the UN flag list and go away.

Is Bill Watching The Euro Cup??

Submitted by feisty on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 12:03pm.

Watching the Euro Cup soccer championships on ESPN, and at the start of each match the national anthem of both countries is played. And if you pay attention you will see every soccer player and every fan in the stands singing their national anthem with a look of pride and conviction on his/her face. They look like they're all very proud of their respective country and they all display their pride by singing the words for everyone to hear.

A smug liberal hack like Bill Press must be outraged at such a display of national pride. And, look, there were no riots in the crowd because someone was **offended** by the words of the competitors' anthem. Despite most of Europe being a socialist cesspool, the people still seem to cling to their country and their traditions. Even though the socialists have led the continent off a cliff, the people still display national pride. They're not ashamed. Press is full of sh$*. He hates this country and all it stands for. But if he went to a European country, the real people display more national pride than we are here.

be curious to hear what National Anthem Mr. Press would be supportive of.

Given that he is so "embarrassed" by the national anthem what solution does Mr. Press suggest?

I really am curious.

Idiotic product of public school system

Submitted by Edditor on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 12:32pm.

Bill Press --- it takes a village populated by legions of idiots to give this man a platform. Fortunately, the platform from which he issues his nonsensical screeds is Current TV, soon to disappear down the drain, having drained the pockets of liberal millionaires. Current TV is a perfect example of how liberals run (down) businesses.

Like it or not, he has the RIGHT to bump his gums! Personally, the only time I ever hear about him, is in an article like this where he flounders around morally and ethically, only to arrive at his asinine conclusion! The man is the "Human Fart", you hear it and desperately try to avoid it!

Our National Anthem is not

Submitted by NCfairandbalanced on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 12:49pm.

Our National Anthem is not the easiest song to sing. So why can't Press just say that? An abomination? Even if you don't like the tune. (I do). Or you don't like the military jargon (I do). An abomination? That word is so strong, it should be reserved for something else.

Here's the problem, and Press reveals it in his dislike for the song. He is ANGRY. He hates everything about anything good and decent.

And to be fair, not all liberals are that way. And then some are, but to a lesser degree. But Press takes the cake. Al Gore is another (maybe why he hired Press). Joan Walsh is another. Then there is Olbermann...

Matthews, Shultz, Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnel are in the "to a lesser" degree category. Even those, though, are not created equal!

Finally, Libs who aren't angry: Juan Williams, Kirsten Powers, Lanny Davis, Bob Beckel (especially since he teamed up with Cal Thomas).

Disclaimer: all lists are certainly incomplete. Feel free to add or subtract on!

Finally, again, to be fair, I should note some angry conservatives: , , , ,

Ok, I can't think of any. Hmmmmm.....

Press was misquoted.

What we need is the addresses

Submitted by Master Reynolds1 on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 1:57pm.

What we need is the addresses of these traitors posted online. I am unemployed right now thanks to Obamanomics and I have loads of free time to go have discussion on traitors with these folks. I would love to show how disgusted I am by him in person. And yes we live in America, so he is entitled to speak his opinion. Just like I am entitled to "voice" mine to him....

Let's help Bill Press

Submitted by TreadMeNot on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 4:19pm.

I say Americans ought to give Bill Press what he deserves. Every person that sees him on the street ought to sing the Star Spangled Banner and then spit in his face.
