Biggest Religious Lawsuit in U.S. History Launched, Liberal Evening News Shows Ignore It

By Brent Bozell | May 22, 2012 | 12:13

The evening news broadcasts all but spiked the largest legal action in history to defend our constitutionally protected religious freedom. The May 21 editions of ABC’s World News and NBC’s Nightly News refused to report the fact that 43 Catholic dioceses and organizations filed a lawsuit on Monday against the Obama administration. CBS Evening News gave this historic news a mere 19 seconds of air time.

This is the worst bias by omission I have seen in the quarter century history of the Media Research Center. Every American knows about the Chinese communists withholding for 20 years the news that the US had landed on the moon, because it reflected poorly on the government. Our US media today are no different. They are now withholding news from the American people if it is harmful to the re-election of Barack Obama.

This is not a mistake, nor is it an editorial oversight by the broadcast networks. This is a deliberate and insidious withholding of national news to protect the ‘Chosen One’ who ABC, CBS and NBC have worked so hard to elect and are now abusing their journalistic influence to reelect Obama. And when a network like CBS mentions the suit ever-so-briefly, they deliberately distort the issue by framing it as a contraception lawsuit instead of what they know it to be: a religious freedom issue. It’s bogus, dishonest – a flat out lie.

The fact is that the Catholic Church has unleashed legal Armageddon on the administration, promising ‘we will not comply’ with a health law that strips Catholics of their religious liberty. If this isn't 'news' then there's no such thing as news. This should be leading newscasts and the subject of special, in-depth reports. Instead, these networks are sending a clear message to all Americans that the networks will go to any lengths – even censoring from the public an event of this historic magnitude – to prevent the release of any information that will hurt Obama’s chances of re-election.

The so-called 'news' media have sunk to a new low. This is despicable.

As I talk to more and more people about the "legacy" media, I've noticed more and more people are starting to come around, and become more aware to the hipocracy... even up here!

It's getting to the point where only liberals will listen to the liberal media, and isn't all that just part of the "tolerance" hipocracy on the part of the media?

I heard it hear first (i.e., the historic lawsuit against the administration for its historic infringment on the First Amendment). It seems a web blog on media bias is now where I need to go to get the news.

Let's hope that FNC picks your story up tonight. It seems the second historic news story here is the outright withholding of information by the mainstream news media cabal.

FNC was reporting on the suit all day yesterday. They are still reporting on it today. They have legal experts on saying that this suit was a long time coming. One even said that this suit maybe moot when Obamacare is totally struck down by SCOTUS.

If they had only put the lawsuit in a State Department or CIA cable, then the NYT would have front-paged it. Or at least leaked it to "Deep Throat" (love the irony). Or said it was in Assange's Wikileak treasure-trove.

Ah, because religion and Chritianity is the biggest threat there is to Communisim; and Catholocicm is a threat in particular, since it is larger, stronger, and more organized than other denomonations. They may not be doing it for those reasons consiously, but they have soaked in communit ideology so long and their veiws are so close to that of the Commies that they can't help but react badly to anything involving The Church.

I believe that Obama

Submitted by misterbee241 on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 3:12pm.

thinks if he and his evil horde of liberal democrats can bring the Catholic church, as big and as organized as it is, into submission on this issue then the Protestant denominations wont be much of a problem. Many of them have abandoned scriptural teachings and sound doctrine and are themselves already quite liberal. The goal is to regulate churches in America just like Hitler did in Germany. And since the government gave itself, through Obamacare, the power to determine what a religious organisation is, there is only one small step left to government defining what a church is.

If you're not getting flak, you're not over the target.

Wouldn't it be great to see

Submitted by celator on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 1:03pm.

Wouldn't it be great to see the jour-o-list and editors' emails regarding how the MSM big shots would "handle" this story.

Should they ignore it altogether? No, that would be too obvious.

Should they give the story the coverage it really ought to have? Good grief, no. The Obama White House would be all over their case. There would go the access.

Should they minimize the story, making sure the Catholic Church was seen as declaring war on women, and Cardinal Dolan in particular came off like a raving lunatic? Is there some dirt they can find out about Dolan? No, that might tick off some of the 78 million Catholics in the country.

What to do, what to do?

Maybe just be "present" until this blows over. Or maybe there's a nearby cemetery they can walk by while whistling.

They just don't realize that their monopoly is gone and that people will find out about it anyway. Then they will look stupid and people will lose even more respect for them. At least those who had any left at this point.

Church lawsuits

Submitted by filioscotia on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 3:46pm.

Excuse me, but this is NOT just about Catholics. The Obama law doesn't single out the Catholic church. It says ALL churches and church owned institutions must comply.

I have to ask where the Protestant churches are in this dispute? Most of them are also going to be affected by the birth control mandate.

Mr. Bozell is not saying it

Submitted by motherbelt on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 4:17pm.

Mr. Bozell is not saying it only affects Catholics; he is simply discussing this particular lawsuit by Catholic organizations, and pointing out that the news outlets are doing their best to ignore it.

Here is some info on other religious organizations and leaders who are opposed, but are not taking part in this particular lawsuit.

It's info you could have found for yourself with a quick Google search.

Please note that not all religions are being mandated by Obamacare. First, read the IRS Code regarding religious exemptions. Some of the same exemptions are listed under AHCA. That would be the Amish, Quakers, and under CURRENT REVIEW, Muslims and Native Americans. The decision regarding which religions will be exempt must be made by 2014. It has already been determined that Protestants and Catholics, Jewish, and Mormons are mandated by the various governing agencies, DHH and IRS who will be managing Obamacare.

The final decision on religious exemptions will be made in 2014, after the election. But all may be for naught if Supreme Court throws the whole thing out. It may take the SC to stop the "war on Christians".
