Bozell Applauds Sen. DeMint's Call to 'Permanently Defund Corporation for Public Broadcasting'

Today NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center (MRC) President Brent Bozell applauded Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) for calling for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting (CPB) to be permanently defunded of taxpayer subsidies.

Said Bozell in a statement released today:

Good for Senator DeMint and Congressman Lamborn.  They are correct: today consumers have an endless array of news and entertainment choices and it’s the height of fiscal irresponsibility to shovel hundreds of millions of dollars at this utterly outdated concept.

Nor should the American people be forced to pay for the CPB’s political indoctrination efforts. PBS and NPR have both consistently pushed a wildly liberal agenda through their ‘news’ programming.  The MRC has long tracked their offenses, and the evidence cannot honestly be challenged.

The most recent example is PBS newscaster Gwen Ifill emceeing an event honoring HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for implementing ObamaCare. Ifill violated the spirit of the Public Broadcasting Act by emceeing the event.  Even the PBS Ombudsman said Ifill should have skipped the event. Yet CPB didn’t even flinch.

We taxpayers have had enough. We pay your salaries and a majority of us firmly oppose ObamaCare. How dare you use our taxes to promote policies we find repugnant?

OK, uh,

what happened to the Disqus thingy? oh well. :-|

Where was I? Oh, yeah - this NPR thing is interesting (again) but has anyone heard about Michelle Bachmann & family becoming Swiss citizens?

Is she going to step down immediately? Isn't it bad enough we already have (at least) one non-citizen federal office holder?

All I can say is

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Wed, 05/09/2012 - 11:53am.

It's about friggin time! But we need more than a couple of senators "calling for" defunding. We need coordination between the House and the Senate and legislation put up for a vote. CPB can be offered a choice: quit with the biased liberal BS, or make your own way in the world of broadcasting. They can use the examples of Air America, Current TV, and the Oprah network as examples of how well non-government funded liberal broadcasting does in the real world. I speak for myself, but I'm sure the VAST majority of Americans will agree, that the government taking MY money to pay for non-accountable liberal broadcasting and dissemination of misinformation, twisted facts, outright lies, and partisan points of view needs to stop. It's bad enough we have to pay for all the other government boondoggles.

NPB means...

NPB means NAZI Propaganda Broadcasting! Excuse me for the error! CPB stands for Communist Propaganda Broadcasting!

Odd....

Submitted by Willis_Leon_Johnson on Wed, 05/09/2012 - 12:22pm.

I'm in favor of defunding the Senate, the House of Representatives, the entire executive branch and several of the district court systems until the budget is balance, the debt paid off, and the federal government limited to STRICTLY CONSTITUTIONAL LIMITS.

That would include the pbs garbage.

BUT, I do think the People should hold all intellectual RIGHTS, patents and copyrights to everything that was funded by the Taxpayers until 100% of their money is returned.

End 'gun violence in America' - Require training and MANDATORY "Shall Carry" by every Citizen.

If harry reid is the best person to lead the senate, what does that say about the other 99 senators?

Public Broadcasting should

Submitted by John21 on Wed, 05/09/2012 - 12:28pm.

Public Broadcasting should have been defunded in 60s or at least the 70s, it provide no unique value that is not meet by the hundreds of commercial stations and networks. None of the programing is special or unique to them and similar programing can be found easily on commercial airways.

The liberals will still control the propaganda media with MSMBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC but I do not understand why the taxpayer should pay for the far lefts propaganda on public broadcasting. The disinformation of the liberal / DNC agenda will still be available and promenade without the taxpayers being billed for it.

I remember the last time this came up they were saying it's 2% of NPR/PBS's budget.

WELL THEN YOU WON'T MISS IT, WILL YOU???????????????????

You mean to tell me we can't find a BUYER for all those well known brands? Sesame Street? Arthur? OF COURSE WE CAN.

Funding ideas

Submitted by Unsane on Wed, 05/09/2012 - 8:39pm.

Actually, I was thinking that if the taxpayers stop funding CPB, all that needs to happen is to have a small percentage of the Sesame Street merchandise cost go to fund the CPB! Hell, I bet even more merchandise will sell on the basis of that!

Defund NPR/CPB and use the money to pay down the debt.

I wouldn't have a problem with the CPB

Submitted by dreamsincolor on Wed, 05/09/2012 - 3:01pm.

IF [great big HUGE IF]

It was balanced with reporters/commenters from BOTH sides of the aisle on EVERY issue. Forget unbiased, force fairness of airtime on every topic. After all that's what the libs want to put on PRIVATE broadcasters.

They will never, ever go for that because their positions for the most part are indefensible, so f'em. Let them get their funding elsewhere.
