NB Publisher Bozell: Komen 'Snapped Like a Toothpick' In Response to Liberal Media Pressure

By Brent Bozell | February 03, 2012 | 13:34

A  A
Brent Bozell's picture

Komen hasn't bent to political pressure from Planned Parenthood and its left-wing political allies - they've snapped like a toothpick. And according to our statistical analysis, pro-abortion ABC, CBS and NBC News have undoubtedly played a strategic role in this pressure.

Since Komen's first announcement only two days ago, these network morning and evening newscasts collectively have cited it more than 13 times. And not surprisingly, these reports overwhelmingly slammed Komen and sympathized with the abortion giant.

This stands in stark comparison to the same newscasts virtually ignoring the Obama's new 'health' mandate forcing thousands of Catholic institutions to defy their deeply held religious beliefs. In total, ABC, CBS and NBC have covered that story a whopping ONE time since the news broke two weeks ago today.

The liberal media are actively lobbying for a baby killing factory while deliberately avoiding the most serious threat to religious liberty in this country. It's anything but professional journalism.

In the Spirit of Alinsky

Submitted by Galvanic on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 2:23pm.

The Left brought all its media guns to bear, just as their guru taught them to do.

Listening to CEO Brinker's explanation on the Komen site as to why they were going to withhold funds from PP, it appeared to me that she was graciously avoiding specifics regarding PP, which she didn't even mention by name.

But backing down doesn't dispel the reasoning behind the original announcement; something at PP didn't smell good to them.

Unless I'm mistaken, both Komen and PP are tax-exempt non-profits, which means that their books ought to be accessible. Will anyone investigate?

I agree, I'd project

Submitted by jkwtrading on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 1:50pm.

I agree,
I'd project ahead...we are just beginning to truly feel the pressure, it can only build and build and build. I would not expect a president whether it be Obama or Romney or anyone else to stop it. Our eyes are now focusing on the leaders as the targets. Congress is at a squeezing or popping point too.
in local areas I see this same pressure building in small communities once immune to the overall larger pressure. we are coming close to something BIG.

This pregnancy was unplanned, and due to a failure in the birth control method, (and success in that, uh, other thing that actually gets you pregnant), but while I wasn't overwhelmed with joy at the thought of going through another pregnancy and birth right now, it certainly isn't the child's fault, and she'll be loved, adored, and welcomed just like the rest of our children.

Amazing. You are a private donor for years and decide that you want to put your money someplace else so the recipients of your charity, instead of saying Thank you for your years of donations, say that you are wrong and get the media to bully you to continue giving financing.

That certainly is a great way to get new sources of funding. You would have to be a lunatic to start funding an organization that has shown this level of ingratatude.

If the Komen Group had come out and said that they were cutting their donations to PLanned Parenthood because they disagreed with PP performing abortions - I got no problem with that - if the Komen group had come out and said they were cutting teir donations because they found that the money was being used for anything - and I mean anything - but breast cancer prevention testing - also not a problem.

The problem is that the Komen group came out with a lame excuse for cutting their funding - citing a policy that I think the ink was still wet on (ok - the toner hadn't quite set totally on) - just because one ultra right wing pandering wing nut of a Congressman from Florida decides he's going to take on Planned Parenthood and make sure that no Federal money is being used for abortions (which it should't be) - based on no evidence of any improprieties that we know of - probably just to show he has some (imaginary) clout in a re-election year for him.

I swear there are times I wish that after the treaty was signed at Apomattox Courthouse that the US would have left the Confederate States to be their own slaveless country instead of having to deal with this silliness - but alas that is just wishful thinking.

The Komen group should have been taken to task on this - as should any group who bows to political pandering on either side of the aisle - this isn't about partisanship - this is about what's right - and the Komen group was WRONG - simple as that.

Submitted by bkeyser on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 3:57pm.

as you put it- they have every right to do with their money as they see fit. What if the decided that an examination of the funds they provided to PP revealed little if any was actually supporting breast cancer treatment or awareness, and decided a better place to donate would be the American Cancer Society? Would that be wrong?

I realize they didn't state this -though they would have been smart to from the outset- but they're in no way obligated to donate their funds to any one particular group; especially if that group comes under scrutiny for scurrilous acts or misuse of the allocated funds. It is important to remember that PP agents have been caught misleading and lying to young girls and not reporting incidents of alleged child rape.

Not To Mention

Submitted by stratman on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 6:18pm.

According to the latest, and controversial, USTFPS guidelines on breast cancer screening:

  • The USPSTF recommends against teaching breast self-examination (BSE). Grade: D Recommendation.
  • The USPSTF concludes that the current evidence is insufficient to assess the additional benefits and harms of clinical breast examination (CBE) beyond screening mammography in women 40 years or older. Grade: I Statement.
  1. Discourage the use of services with “D” recommendations unless there are unusual additional considerations.
  2. Carefully read the Clinical Considerations section  or guidance for services with “I” statements, and help patients understand the uncertainty surrounding these services since the evidence is insufficient to determine net benefit.

Technically, if PP fiollows USPSTF guidelines in the care of their patients then PP is not required to perform CBE's and should not teach SBE's.  Since PP refers patients to diagnostic facilities for mammograms even less money should be required of Komen or anyone else.

PP and Leftists used a political tactic while complaining of an opposing political tactic.  Hypocrites.  It's unlikely Komen suddenly became Conservative in ideology and cut off funding to PP.  It is likely, however, that political pressure forced Komen to reverse position.  Nothing short of thuggery.  Sort of how Obama and Leftists want to force working people to "donate" more of their money under the guise of "fairness" in the "charity" of those who do not work.

Yep, real simple.

Let's ignore the murder of 50 million innocent babies, let's ignore the investigations of PP abortion clinics in 14 states where some  doctors are being arrested for murder ( which Komen admits is the real reason they defunded PP)

Yep, solution is real simple, never tell the truth, skewer the numbers, and never give opposition a voice.

Yep, liberalism is real simple. Just ignore substantive issues, the value of human life, the trauma and damage done to millions of unsuspecting women, billions of taxpayer money squandered.

Just eliminate abortion. That single action (having an abortion) greatly increases a woman's chances of contracting breast cancer later in life. Having multiple abortions multiplies the problem. PP is responsible for tens of thousands of breast cancer patients today.

If SGK foundation was really serious about reducing and/or eliminating breast cancer, they would be leading the fight to end abortion.

[had a] 3.42 [increased risk] ... compared with those who kept their baby. ... The Sri Lankan study is the fourth epidemiological study in fourteen months to report an abortion-breast cancer link, including studies from the U.S., China and Turkey."[19] LifeNews also reported in 2010 that a National Cancer Institute researcher admitted there was a link between abortion and breast cancer.[20] Studies showing that abortion increases breast cancer predate the political controversy.[21] A study at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center published in 2009 confirmed a 40% increase in risk in breast cancer from abortion.[22][23] Yet the abortion industry conceals this increased risk, just as the tobacco industry concealed its cancer risk for decades.[24]

good info.

Hard to believe that anyone who is a "59 year veteran" of the U.S. Navy, as DC2280 says he is, would appear to be so liberally oriented.

Maybe the move from Maine to the Mojave had a deleterious effect.  :o)

59 years in uniform, though, has got to be a record; should we notify the folks at Guinness?

Keep in mind that a very high percentage of those who use the Planned Abortionhood facilities are in fact 'thinning the herd' of future liberal Americans for us. This is about the only chance we have.

Did you know Doug has Mesothelioma? We'll deal with the government. You have enough to worry about.

The stood up to the baby killers for one day

Submitted by lrgon on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 4:47pm.

which is something.

We would have liked to see the Komen foundation board maintain their nerve but I have a hunch they expected the backlash and only threw a bone to the prolifers by putting on their 22 and 1/2 hour show for the unborn as a sort of comedy routine.

It reminds me of the grandstand show the Republicans put on after they captured the House of Reresentatives and the "fight' over the debt limit came up. The GOP leadership snapped like "a toothpick" and Obama got all he wanted. The people got stuck with holding the bag of debt.

The GOP leadership is as macho as the pink brigades at Komen.

Abortions are modern day

Submitted by Old Europe on Sat, 02/04/2012 - 12:28am.

Abortions are modern day human sacrifices on the Altar of humanism, liberalism and ultimately satanism. Out of sheer convenience millions of babies are being brutally killed every year. And these liberal media who love enabling infanticide have the gall to cry foul when child abuse in Catholic churches is uncovered. But the worst kind of child abuse, i .e. abortion, is considered a basic human right! This goes to prove hos Satan addles the minds of people and that he indeed is the Ruler of this world. There is no other way I can explain how I fell for the liberal lies before I saw the truth and gave my life to Jesus. It seems like Satan's web of lies has been torn down by the Holy Ghost. Unfortunately too many people are still being lied to by Satan day by day and the cannot see the truth.

I agree with most of that

Submitted by MightyMouth on Sat, 02/04/2012 - 12:56am.

I agree with most of that paragraph, and would like to add that free and widespread abortion is the very highest of liberal racism. What I mean by that is liberal whites don't like minorities and would like to reduce them as fast as possible. Now I know there is a thought pattern that says more minorities = more democrat voters. But this only includes poor minorities, ala Cloward/ Piven who are sucking on the goobermint teat. The real truth is most of those people could care less about getting off the couch to vote.
So to sum up: abortion is the Holy Grail of liberalism/feminism both of which are evils that will destroy the USA as we know it.

And could someone answer this question for me? How can a Democrat also be a Christian? I think Christ would find that impossible (see Jeremiah 1:5).

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend, unless my friend is more evil than my enemy."
