Stop the High-tech Lynching of Herman Cain

By Brent Bozell | October 31, 2011 | 11:41

A  A
Brent Bozell's picture

Sadly, Herman Cain’s predictions have come true. In May he stated that he was "ready for the same high-tech lynching that [Clarence Thomas] went through -- for the good of this country." That's what Politico is doing with its unsubstantiated and thoroughly hypocritical hit piece against him. Anyone in the press that gives this story oxygen is equally hypocritical.

In the eyes of the liberal media, Herman Cain is just another uppity black American who has had the audacity to leave the liberal plantation. So they must destroy him, just as they tried destroying Clarence Thomas.

The richest irony here is that the same media that refused to cover evidence of an alleged rape by a state Attorney General who became President now are running stories based on unnamed sources, about offenses that aren’t a fraction as grave. But one was a liberal Democrat, the other a conservative Republican -- hence the double standard.

Consider the source: Ken Vogel of Politico used to work for the George Soros-funded Center for Public Integrity in Washington and has been involved in numerous attacks on conservatives.  There is no hiding a liberal agenda when considering Ken Vogel’s work, and this latest smear attempt on Cain is further proof. “The liberal media need to wake up and deal with the fact that successful, black Americans can be conservative. They are going insane realizing he might one day be President, too."

Editor's Note: For full disclosure, Herman Cain is both the former National Chairman for the Media Research Center's Business & Media Institute, and a personal friend of Mr. Bozell.

Herman Cain

Submitted by liberalsarefunny on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 12:05pm.

Nothing is more threatening to guilty white liberals than a black person who wanders off the liberal plantation and finally figures out that he can do just fine on his own, without his condescending white liberal overseers and their family destroying policies.

Therefore.......Herman Cain must be destroyed, at all costs!!

The Race Industry must be preserved, at all costs!!

Same cr@p pulled in one of Ohio's House races

Submitted by IgnatzJFahrquar on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 12:11pm.

Tom Ganley (R) was running against a Union backed shill (Betty Sutton) back in 2010 when a convenient "harassment" story hit the media a couple of months before the election. Needless to say it killed any chances he had.

Of course, all charges were later dropped (July 2011). I hope Cain goes after these societal turds.

High tech lynching, kneejerk defense

Submitted by StarAZ on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 12:40pm.

Which is it, NB? Do you have all the facts--if this is such old news, why is it just coming out. I worked for a trade assn for many yrs, they can be paternal places, the upper management has the upper hand. I had many tacky remarks made to me as a young exec in the 1970-80s. I never heard of a payoff then, though. Who knows what happened...I do know women STILL have to put up with a lot of so-called "witty" remarks. If I were Bozell, though, I wouldn't go straight to the plantation stuff--see what comes out of this.

Submitted by StarAZ on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 1:18pm.

I am not on either side--what I am saying is I know trade assn life personally--albeit a few decades earlier. They were mostly run by men, then. Off-color remarks were a staple. They tried to shock females in the meetings and office. In one example, I once worked to get agreement from my rich, high-powered member executives and the pres of the assn casually asked me how I got them to agree--had I gone down on them? Very nice. My ex- was also fired from the govt (after he was ex) for sexual harassment--he did it. I have no idea what the deal is with Cain--all I was saying is this is possible, let's see what happened. As for your little sally here, Cobe, how am I a hypocrite? I never harassed anyone.

The BEST part is that Jeremiah Wright, from the PULPIT, talked about it BEFORE POLICE MADE IT PUBLIC... and even THAT's not the best part of it...

Begin the comparison

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 12:57pm.

It's way to early to speculate on the fall out from this story. Without details from the accusers as to the what-when-where-how (the basic questions that the media ought to be asking), we don't know whether there is any credence to them or if the yconstitute harassment at all, and Cain certainly can't address something he's been given no specifics on.

But Politico has thrown down the accusation, and the McCarthy-tactics have begun. On another NB post, Cain was asked repeatedly if he denied that he sexually harassed these accusers. It's as if Kafka was managing the news rooms.

The majority of the MSM is owned and run by whites. With that in mind, compare the level of attention is paying to these ambiguous allegations against Cain to the general indifference they demonstrated in Juanita Broaderick's rape charge against Bill Clinton and the Paula Jones sexual harassment suit, which Clinton settled out of court only after perjuring himself and getting impeached.

Why was white man Clinton afforded light treatment, but black man Cain is getting grilled?

I attribute it to racism. As has been noted on NB for years, black conservatives come under especially heavy attack from white liberals who portray them as everything to "house-niggers" to race traitors (MSNBC/Daily Kos).

You're right about the hazards of early speculation, Galvanic...

Submitted by Jer on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 6:24pm.

But as it stands now, I think Cain will be helped more by a sympathy backlash against a seemingly hostile media than hurt by vague and skimpily-detailed sexual harassment accusations made years ago. Herman's denials seem sincere, although his insistence he knew nothing about any settlement arrangement does strain credulity a bit.

Oh, about that purported Clinton 'light treatment': Baloney

It is pathetic. Only Spitzer got real coverage.

I am not half as concerned over the story than I am about how Cain handled it. He needs a good response that includes all he can legally disclose and then attack the source and reason for the story and the inconsistency.

Submitted by Caringwhiteguy on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 1:09pm.

It shouldn't be so difficult for an enterprising reporter (Breitbart?) to find the "accusers" in question. Let's learn what these "allegations" really were. Let's find out how the persons involved were compensated. Let's find out what these people are doing today. Let's find out who their friends are. Let's find out who put the ball in motion with Politico. After all the National Restaurant Association of the 1990's didn't have a staff of thousands, particularly in mid-management positions with direct access to Cain.

nominating states need a lottery schedule

Submitted by commenta on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 3:10pm.

Some people need to get together and shake up the nominating schedule. There is no good reason why states ought not be subjected to a lottery in fact, so that we, who live in the Western states, are given a choice instead of whomever these conveniently placed elites might want.

But, there is no good reason, why certain candidates are not given camera time, and there is no good reason either why the "journalists" ought be designing "debates" as well.

If the states were held to a lottery, it would be vastly harder for those strategists to line up their candidates and ignore the challengers. Then by chance, the rest of us would count. Long live the Electoral College and the Republic.

btw: There was a recent cover story on National Journal about taming the internet. There is a self serving interest in advocating subtle means, in a "right of return" to determine who gets to talk back or challenge the status quo quite frankly. Think so? Long live the Internet too!

StarAZ,

Submitted by Agnostic on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 3:35pm.

So just us "commenters" are all the same?

Just tweaking - sorry if I hit a nerve.  I've done this a few times over the years to people that feel it necessary to attack people who already defensive from being attacked.  These attacks on Cain are personal to many Conservatives because it is indicative of what would happen to anyone labeled 'Conservative' in the media eye - that makes it hit closer to home than just random comments about people that are not really known.  Perhaps things are a little too defensive and a little of the attack the messenger does take place and while that is wrong there is no need to get on a high horse about the issue.

The "racial rhetoric--lynching...plantation...uppity, etc" terminology is based on a long line of media and Democrat examples going back over a hundred years.  In some respects it is heavy-handed but when was the last time you heard a legitimate news story come out with the facts - unknown, accusers - unknown and the remaining details unavailable due to discretion?  At least when the story was about someone other than a Conservative?

Should we just be happy the media didn't pelt Herman Cain with Oreos when he came out to speak to the media?

The rhetoric will cool from both sides and since it is a Republican the truth will most likely be uncovered.  At that time, if Cain is innocent, we will be left with the stigma of accusation and corrections printed on A23.

SOME commenters, as I said originally

Submitted by StarAZ on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 3:49pm.

Except for the pelting with oreos straw man (to stretch a metaphor to the breaking pt), this almost sounds apologetic for the big word salads we are making of race, men-women, cookies, horses, etc I think we need to step back a little--even under an NDA, these women will probably be outed. Cain himself, acc to this, told his staff something might come out--acc to my reading, another woman who lost a suit accusing him and paid his court costs. So three times this has come up. Maybe the others were not provable, too--I don't know and you don't either. I say it's a man-woman, exec-board member, some issue other than race. You say it's race as usual. Why don't we wait and see.

Actually StarAZ,

Submitted by Agnostic on Tue, 11/01/2011 - 10:03am.

I don't say it is race as usual.  I say it is hypocrisy from the media in relation to race as usual.  I'm all for waiting but not for attacking those who take personal issues with the attacks on Cain because history gives us examples of what the media will do if there is insufficient push back in that they will ride a non-story into reality if not held accountable.  Should it be proven that Cain bears some guilt there will be no place for him to hide and his campaign will suffer accordingly.  But if we wait for the media to bring forth the proof without any critical assessment of their methods all we will get is a long drawn out 'he said-we said-Cain should' argument.

I no longer expect the media to act with any integrity in political arena.  Dan Rather ruined the last miniscule thread of faith I had in the Propaganda Profession.  Even just comments on threads such as this give support to organizations like MRC to call out the media and force their hand so we can possibly get the whole story and not just the News that is Fit-To-Print.

"Witty" versus "bitchy?" Do you think the world revolves around sex? Then you are sorely misinformed.

What if now in this election it happens to unravel this kind of posturing? Not only will the democrat myth crumble surrounding its role in race relations throughout the history of this country, perhaps there are enough angry, whatever, men and women who are sick and tired of all this infantile obsession with sex?

Are there not enough of those who can bring up the other side of the story and now include the story of these bitchy power grasping females? This group of power seekers have seized on the Clinton guilt trip legislation in fact. They have used it to destroy family. That's the fundamental fact.

This may be a good time to examine exactly who supports these kinds of attack. How about Joe Biden in particular? He was chair of the committee that vicerated Clarence Thomas.

Need we say much more?

Clinton's anniversary is a better story than rumors about Cain

Submitted by Gary Hall on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 3:02pm.

This is not a rumor, folks but a hard news anniversary - the 10th anniversary of Clinton's disbarment(s) . . . (from Wikipedia - so difficult to find):

  • In 2000 the Arkansas Supreme Court's Committee on Professional Conduct called for the disbarment of President Bill Clinton, saying he lied about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. In January 2001 Clinton reached an agreement under which he was ordered to pay $25,000 in fines to Arkansas state's bar officials and his Arkansas law license was suspended for five years.
  • The agreement came on the condition that Whitewater prosecutors would not pursue federal perjury charges against him.
  • Clinton was suspended by the Supreme Court in October 2001, and, facing disbarment from that court, Clinton resigned from the Supreme Court bar in November [2001].

. . . I'm sure that we're all confident that they'll remember the historic events on the 20th anniversary.

I’m glad Cain’s finally come out swinging

Submitted by cy_babe on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 3:03pm.

I was a flaming liberal. Voted for Clinton; twice. I started on my path toward conservative after the Democrats circled the wagon around Billy-Boy. Something was amiss. The Democrats managed it so no one ever came back around to the fact that Clinton lied under oath in a criminal trial and coerced a material witness. In the end, most felt compelled to forgive his sexual indiscretion and his falsehood to the American people. “ohh Hasn’t he suffered enough”, “He’s learned his lesson”, “Drop it for the sake of his family” and the biggest “You are wasting the country’s time JUST over sex”. No one ever remembers a sitting president lied under oath in a criminal trial and. They lost a lot of support over that. The DNC can no longer count on the women’s vote automatically. The MSM exposure as mouthpiece of the left also started then. I am amazed at the difference in coverage (Print: I no longer listen/watch the MSM) . During the Clinton event, it was all about the women’s un-believability, their reputation … In Cain’s coverage, it’s all about his lack of denial of unsubstantiated, anonymous sources. Hmmmm.
I’m glad Cain’s finally come out swinging.
