NB Publisher Bozell: Gingrich Won Debate, 'It's Over' for Pawlenty

Brent Bozell's picture

Editor's Note: What follows is NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell's thoughts on who won, who lost, and who should just pack it all in following last night's Republican presidential debate in Ames, Iowa.

Gingrich: The winner. Wasn't even close. Showed why Obama would pee in his pants having to debate this man.

Santorum: Also a winner. Showed most passion, and took on and beat up other candidates. But was it enough to keep him alive?

Romney: Draw/Win. Played not to lose and in that sense succeeded. Didn't accomplish anything, but no one laid a hand on him either.

Bachmann: Draw. Up in that she very successfully deflected attacks. Down in that she came out with plastic speeches when asked to "speak from the heart."

Cain: Draw. Answered some questions well, others not so well. In the end it wasn't enough to save him.

Paul: Loser. Time to go home, Ron. His attacks on the US vis-a-vis Iran were insulting.

Pawlenty: Like the boxer told in the 12th round that he needed a knock-out, Pawlenty threw wild punches everywhere -- and never scored. It's over.

Huntsman: Who?

Gingrich's overlooked remarks at Fox News debate

Submitted by lrgon on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 5:57pm.

"The Ve[r]ona files proved their were spies in America." ---Newt Gingrich

The VENONA files are decoded cables sent from Soviet agents in the United States to Moscow. Transcripts of the intercepted cables were released by the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency in 1995 and 1996.

The VENONA transcript with the most relevance to the Hiss case is #1822, sent March 30, 1945 from the Soviet's Washington station chief to Moscow.

Hiss continued to work as a Soviet agent well until 1945, well after his association with Chambers ended in 1938. The period of the 1940s was one during which Hiss served as an important policy maker in the State Department and was first "Acting" Secretary General for the United Nations conference.

Screw you Paultard. I said Ban this troll now.

King Paultard Ron Paul: “Iran is a threat because they have some militants there, but believe me … Iran does not have an air force that can come here — they can’t even make enough gasoline for themselves,”

Did Iran need an air force to kill our troops and others in any of these places?

April 1983 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- A truck loaded with explosives blew up in front of the American embassy in Beirut. Sixty-one were killed and 120 more were injured.

October 23, 1983 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- The headquarters of the U.S. Marines in Beirut was destroyed in a suicide attack by Iran's terrorist surrogates, resulting in 241 dead, 80 seriously wounded.

March 1984 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- William Buckley, an American citizen living in Lebanon, was abducted by Iranian terrorist surrogates. He was secretly taken to Tehran, where he was killed in 1985 by the Revolutionary Guards.

December 03, 1984 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- Peter Kilburn, a librarian at the American University of Beirut, was abducted by Iran's terrorist surrogates. He was killed in1986.

June 1985 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- A TWA Boeing 727 was hijacked en route to Rome and Athens and was diverted to Beirut. One of the passengers on board who was a diver in the U.S. Navy was executed on the plane by the hijackers.

July 31, 1989 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- Colonel William Higgins, an American officer working for the United Nations in Lebanon, was abducted and executed by the Iranian regime's agents. A video recording of his hanging was given to international news agencies.

March 17, 1992 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- An attack against the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires resulted in the death of 20 and the injury of 250 people.

April 25, 1993 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- The New York Times reported that at least $100,000 had been deposited in the account of the prime suspects of the February 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The money primarily came from Iran.

July 18, 1994 --- IRAN WAS RESPONSIBLE --- A bomb at the Amia Jewish Center in Buenos Aires left 85 civilians dead and 230 injured. Argentine intelligence officials later announced that the Qods Force’s former commander, Ahmad Vahidi, helped plan the bombing.

Funny you should mention that duo. I've said for months that if Romney and Bachmann would get together and campaign in the primaries as a ticket, they would not only cruise to a nomination, but would also beat Obama handily (barring some Hand of God intervention on Obama's behalf).

My wife and children think I'm crazy, because they A) don't like Romney, or B) don't like Bachmann. Of course, they have yet to propose an electable ticket themselves. And Lord knows, we don't want to spoil a surprise by choosing a running mate when it could actually help!

True, hence why I said a total ticket . They each fill in the other's shortfalls with one group or another, and that type of ticket needs time to age, so it is palatable to John Q Public. Hence the call to run the primaries as a team.

See the logic of sissies and cowards? Any troop deployment. Any embassy personnel. Any international flight. Any United States flagged ship. It is all intevervening. Therefore all our fault.

More from the Sissy cut and run Coward Satchmo

58. We have wasted 60 years militarily. Wasted. Winning the Cold War. Persian Gulf War I. Persian Gulf War II. Grenada. Libya in the 80's. Haiti. Panama. Vietnam. Kosovo. Somalia. Korea. All wasted. Gold Star mothers should hang their head in shame.

57. We lost a fighter jet in Libya. But under the Satchmo/Paultard philosophy on non-interventionalism where everything is our fault, all those fighter jets would be consigned to rust and mold away in a hanger. Money saved - none.

54. Germany declared war on us and we should have just ignored them cuz hey they did not do anything to us or nothin' like, attacking our merchant ships, inserting spies into our country, or attempt to get Mexico drawn into the war among other things. Ron Paul rules!

55. Again, every attack on our citizens, military, and soil is our fault. Phweet.

"The NAZI party is our fault too"

Submitted by lrgon on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 4:34pm.

The Nazi war machine was built up by industrialists outside of Germany. So you make a point albeit a point you distorted in your attack on Satchmo. It isn't the "people" of the US or for that matter England who build up dictators; its the officials who have taken control of the people's government and are using it for their own gain who are responsible.

Noted researcher Anthony Sutton of Stanford makes the case in his books:http://antonysutton.com/

USA CIA assets/ puppets: Saddam Hussein ---Osama Bin Laden.

During the war between Iraq and Iran Saddam was a US ally in that war. The ayatolla was the bad guy in that war and Saddam got a friendly letter hand delivered to him by Donald Rumsfeld.
Rummy would later be rewarded by moving on up in a later administration to rise to Sec.of Daaa-fense where he would use his power to jail and torture Navy vets who dared to speak of corruption in our own military. http://www.bing.com/search?q=suit+aganist+Rumsfeld&src=IE-SearchBox&FORM...

During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan Osama Bin Laden was who's ally? The ruskies or did the CIA hire the future co-conspirator behind the 9-11 attack on US soil?

Paul is "insulting" because he wants to end the war?

Submitted by lrgon on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 4:12pm.

Mr. Bozell was against the Vietnam war!

When Brent was publisher of Triumph Magazine the Vietnam war was one of those topics discussed and Brent opposed it probably along the lines that Paul opposes the wars in the middle east- they are "unjust wars" as articulated by the fathers of the Catholic church to which Brent belongs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_(magazine)

Paul's foreign policy is right in line with George Washington and John Q. Adams.

The confused posters would be cheering to end the war if Bush II came out in favor of a non aggressive/ non interventionist foreign policy. Oh, wait he did favor a non aggression position. Clinton was the war monger back in they 90's and "DUHHHHHH---ubya " was playing the part of John Q. Adams and more in line with Ron Paul's non interventionist views.

Funny how things in politics change but Paul stays true to the principles enshrined in the Constitution! Maybe that's why some hate him.

There is just really one question, which Reagan used. You know which one that is. Any candidate who asks that question, while stating the FACTS (Unemployment Rate, Record Deficits, Losses in the Markets, etc., etc.) will win.

No one is listening to his unpaid slurs and attacks, why would anyone pay attention to paid slurs and attacks? The liberal media is beginning to take shots at him as well...once there's a lot of blood in the water, they'll be "draft Hillary" cries from them.

There are two ways to look at this...

Submitted by falcon on Sat, 08/13/2011 - 11:10am.

One, that RP had seen the light after 2000 and decided he didn't really sit with the Left. After all, even the Bible says to give people the benefit of the doubt.

However, a famous saying indicates a leopard can't change its spots. And the second way to look at this is the way you describe - that RP is the consummate politician and simply waves in whatever direction the wind blows.

I will say this, though, as both a (undeclared) Republican and a conservative and a Texan. If Perry somehow wins the Republican nomination, I will vote for him in the general election. And if there is any doubt as to the other nominees up until the nomination, I will support Perry against them. But if one of the other nominees emerges as the strongest candidate, I will support that person over Perry.

The only thing that could further throw this equation into chaos is if Sarah Palin decides to run. She could win the nomination, but only after first polarizing the GOP - and the schizm could be too great to overcome if Republicans decide to play petty politics against the welfare of our nation. But if they decide to come together under one candidate's banner - despite any ideological differences they may have - then that candidate will defeat Obama in a landslide.

And that's my point. At this point, we all have our favorites in the horse race. But when it comes down to the nomination, we should all be prepared to rally behind the strongest candidate, regardless of whether they're "perfect" or not. If that happens to be Rick Perry, we should all be prepared to support him. If it's someone else, same thing. But people need to put their differences aside at that time, and not sit on their hands, because that's what handed Obama the election in 2008. Evangelical Christians decided not to vote because they didn't like McCain - and if they had, it could have turned the election in the GOP's favor. (Would it have made a difference? Probably not - McCain is nothing more than Obama lite.) But despite our personal differences with a candidate, if that candidate is the nominee, we should stand behind him or her if for no other reason than to remove Obama from office.

In fact, this debate did little for me to favor anyone.
But I now dismiss a few. So thinning is helpful.

That is until the threw a really nice 60 yard pass on target. then scrambled around got a touch down (broght back because of holding) then did some pretty nice work. Quincy came in after that and almost managed to beat Dallas. Mcgee NEEDS to learn how to get rid of the ball faster. This aint college ball anymore and you dont need a wide open reciever to throw to. Just folllow the plan and throw it to a spot and let the reciever do the rest!. NFL will learn NOT to do close ups of the new Dallas Defensive coordinator. Reading his lips left no doubt as to the language coming out of his mouth hahaha.

final score Dallas 24 Denver 23.

I read a bit about the game this a.m. 6/7 isn't too shabby. Tim will get the hang of it if they just give him the opportunity...and if not, I wish they'd trade him to someone who would. He'll work harder than any offensive line in the NFL.

As for the DC, someone on my Gator boards said he looked like our departed (thankfully) OC Steve Adazzio...with a SHAGGY BEVO wig on! LOL!

Seems like the part where everyone said they'd oppose the 10:1 deal is getting a lot of play online. Do you guys think the candidates are crazy for all saying they'd oppose it?

Pawlenty

I like Pawlenty, but it's idiotic to attach Bachmann because she could not assert her will over the entire House. That's just juvenile and transparent.

I agree completely. Pawlenty needs to donate his war chest to Bachmann, he will just be wasting it from here on out

Lets just remember boys and girls play nice. Keep the focus on getting this train wreck out of the White House, November 2012, not too far away, but long enough to cripple the rest of the country. Don't forget he said "We're only half way there." And please dear God please no more embarrassments like John McCain.

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don't know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

No one even asked if I was drunk posting or somesuch.

THAT was a "comment" from my blog...I get about a zillion of these idiot spam posts daily, and I figured maybe I'd just put them to good use and post them at the trollsters in response to their obvious banality. Kind of like we used to immediately talk recipes and vegetables (asparagus, anyone?).

Guess it didn't go over too well, huh? Although let me tell you, some of the Chinese to English translators come out really, really strange and kind of funny.
