Demand the Media Tell the Truth of How the Public Views Debt Ceiling and Balanced Budget Amendment

By Brent Bozell | July 25, 2011 | 13:53

Brent Bozell's picture

The media’s unwillingness to release all the facts concerning the debt ceiling debate is nothing short of censorship. In their enthusiasm as cheerleaders for this President, the media are deliberately hiding and distorting the truth to further their own ideologically driven, leftist agenda.

These so-called 'news' outlets are ignoring the voice of the American people.

It is a tragedy that we even have to demand this: Tell the truth, the whole truth. Report the news.

Tell The Truth!

Submitted by Ashrak on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 2:12pm.

I say the same thing about GunWalker.

Here we have the largest scandal in this nation's history, complete with clear violations of international treaties constituting acts of war alongside the violations of enumerated liberties in an attempt to create even more abuses of them (also an act of war), and today's media is busy lying about about where the people stand on this nation's debt, even after a historic election answering that very question? Really?

It is a case of monkey see monkey do, if there ever was one. Lie Lie Lie, no matter what the facts demonstrate.

Government is the problem and mainstream media is its enabler.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

Well, I will look at the petition,

Submitted by Bob K on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 2:32pm.

but c'mon..... does anyone really think the MSM is really going to give a damn? What is that old saying about repeating a lie long enough? They have a very long record of doing it without regard for actual facts.

Polls are clear. The people don't favor raising the debt ceiling

Submitted by Gary Hall on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 2:43pm.

Polls are clear. The people don't favor raising the debt ceiling.

Where we started:

  • Jan 12, 2011 Reuters/Ipsos poll: 71 percent of those surveyed oppose increasing the borrowing authority, the focus of a brewing political battle over federal spending. Only 18 percent support an increase.
  • Feb. 7th, 2011 - The Hill: Only 27 percent of likely voters favor raising the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, while 62 percent oppose it, according to an exclusive poll for The Hill.

Then the MSM got to work, spinning for the President:

  • July 20th Fox - Voters surveyed were asked to imagine being a lawmaker in Congress who had to cast an up-or-down vote on raising the debt ceiling. The poll found 35 percent would vote in favor of increasing the limit, while 60 percent would vote against it.
  • July 14, 2011- Rasmussen polled with 55% opposed to any new taxes in a debt-ceiling increase deal
  • May 1st - CNN: Would you favor or oppose a bill that would raise the debt ceiling? Ready? 60% said they oppose a bill raising the debt ceiling.
  • April 21st CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit:  Just 27 percent of Americans support raising the debt limit, while 63 percent oppose raising it.
  • July 7-10 Washington Post-Pew Research Center Poll: All things considered, which of these is your greater concern (that raising the debt limit would lead to higher government spending and make the national debt bigger) or (that not raising the debt limit would force the government into default and hurt the nation’s economy)?  47% - Raising debt limit a greater concern. 42% - Not raising debt limit a greater concern.
  • June 7th Zogby:   Do you agree or disagree that the U.S. Congress should raise the debt ceiling? 50% disagree, 42% agree.
  • May 13th - Gallup: Forty-seven percent say they don't want their member of Congress to vote to raise the limit, compared to 19 percent who do. That's 2 1/2 : 1.
  • July - Gallup polls again on the May 13th Question, this time it's 42% opposed to 22% in favor of raising the debt ceiling -- the national media is winning. . but just barely.  What the MSM is winning on is simply keeping it out of the news, making many question their convictions. Perhaps they don't realize that they are with the majority - that they are the populist movement, not some radical minority that the national MSM is working on 24/7, in their effort to sway public opinion.

The people have spoken. Only the President and the National MSM are not listening.

Signing a petition is a waste of time.

Submitted by motherbelt on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 3:19pm.

If they cared at all what Americans think, they would have already reported the story the right way.

The fact that they haven't means the truth is irrelevant to them.

It's about disregarding the wishes of a majority because they think THEY know better.

Of course, the numbers don't

Submitted by Satchmo on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 3:38pm.

Of course, the numbers don't match up.

"CBS’s poll showed that 49% of the public opposes raising the debt ceiling, and NBC’s poll showed 43%."

"Incredibly [CNN hosts] adamantly refused to report their own polling which finds 66% of Americans support the House GOP's 'Cut, Cap and Balance' plan"

The CC&B plan includes raising the debt ceiling. 43-49% of the public can't be opposed to raising the debt ceiling if 66% favor the CC&B plan that the House passed.

Satch, remember the phrase

Submitted by Agnostic on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 3:46pm.

'all other variables remain constant'

It is how things like this happen - you only allow for one change in variable therefore the refusal to raise taxes is removed as a variable and becomes a constant when dealing with CCB.  It is one the main reasons polls are generally useless at deciding multifaceted topics unless they are so long most people lose interest before they finish.

No offense Agnostic, but you will not change any opinion ever of this troll. It is a troll after all. You just give it the resolve to keep going.

Bozell lies all the time, so

Submitted by Giygas on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 5:37pm.

Bozell lies all the time, so who is he to demand "truth"? Bozell doesn't want "truth", he wants spin. Most of Bozell's claims are driven by raging hormones rather than brain cells.

These rich right wing ideologues keep calling for job-killing budget cuts and attacks on the social safety net and won't let go of the tax cuts that only benefited them. Draconian spending cuts are perfectly okay for them because they won't be affected by them, while the low-income families do the suffering for them.
Voodoo economics continues to be a pillar of faith for the far right, despite the absence of empirical evidence for it.

Submitted by Giygas on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 6:21pm.

1. He said letting the Bush tax cuts expire would be the biggest tax increase in American history.

2. He said the scientists involved in climategate were not exonerated.

3. In the above article he conveniently ignores the overwhelming support for raising taxes on the rich from the public.

These three only scratched the surface in the interest of my time.

Submitted by cajun2 on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 6:31pm.

Those are your interpretations, not verifications. If you use this technique then so shall I.

1. On 1-1-11, my payroll taxes from my pension were increased $50 per month above what I already have deducted. My pension is less than $30,000 per year.  That is a huge increase to me as well as millions of other ordinary wage earners. How does that not indicate major tax increases when I am certainly not among the rich.

2. The climategate scientists have not been exonerated. In fact, evidence regarding their collusion has only been exposed by the European media. No US media has even addressed the issue of the climategate emails.

3. The majority of Americans are in favor of raising taxes on the rich IN ADDITION to cutting spending.  The majority (63%) of Americans want smaller government and cutting corrupt wasteful spending. All the polls indicate this with varying points but all the media leave that part out.

Show me some links not just your interpretations. We can do this all day other wise.

What? You have already established your immediate intellectual ascendancy by calling Mr. Bozell a liar.

So, make it worth your time by:
1) Furnishing documents
2) Dropping names
3) Using rhetoric in place of evidence
4) Being generous with hints, and
5) Discussing motives AND mind-reading.

C'mon bloatbag. Put up or shut up

Hell yes it is Okay little diapertroll. Here is my complete contact with government

  1. The roads I drive on
  2. The protection of Police and Fire Departments

Let's see. I have a big ass gas guzzlin' monster off road 4WD behemoth that I bought from a soccer mom. So my tolerance of crumbling roads is much higher that the tiny gas sippin' death boxes that sit a half inch off the ground crybaby trolls boast about driving. I will get to work and get paid long after armagedden arrives little diapertroll. BRING ON THE SHUTDOWN!

Police and Fire protection are at the city, county, and state levels not federal. BRING ON THE SHUTDOWN!

I hope you can't afford an internet connection once Uncle Sam shuts off the spigot for no loads like you. Wait. Hope. Ahhh. I see it now. That was what that whole 2008 thing was about. Ahhhh.

Now whine some more about how we don't care about your full diapers. MmmmmKay?

A text-book example of the pot calling the kettle black.

Submitted by hayate1 on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 1:16am.

CNN left out the key facts that when such a large majority of Americans support what the president wants to do it must be that the msm has lied so much that the gullible masses foolishly support reasonable and responsible policies which the right wing loons call crazy. policies that will actually start the long term process of setting our financial house in order.

Stop the lies! Don't let democrats or Obama do the right things, things that most of us support. Join our cause for truth in media so that we can better force stalemate and gain more support for illogical, stupid and destructive policies that we support.

"Facts are not decided by how many people believe them. Truth is not determined by how loudly it is shouted."

Poor babiztroll has a Democrat as a President and still has the majority of the Senate as Democrats. This after Democrats controlled both houses and the Presidency for 2 years.

And it comes here and cries just like a little whiny babiztroll about the krazee ritewinjers.

Hey diapertroll, we are organizing a pity party for you in the next thread. You go on over there. Mumzitroll will be there to change your diaper too. See you there!
