NewsBusters Publisher Bozell Condemns Death Wishes Against Conservatives from Liberals in the Media

Editor's Note: NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center founder Brent Bozell issued the following statement and provided evidence on the double standard of blaming conservatives for the tragic shooting in Tucson, Arizona while repeatedly ignoring left-wing media outbursts wishing death upon conservatives:

The so-called ‘news’ media have zero currency in this debate because we have documented the Left using hateful, vicious language far worse than any conservative. Their attacks on conservatives are untrue and utterly hypocritical. If they really cared about the effects of political rhetoric, they would have gone after any number of those left-wingers who have directly incited violence – starting with the man with the world’s biggest audience: President Obama. After all, he did say, "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun."

But that would be a ridiculous charge. And besides, the media aren’t really concerned about violent rhetoric. This is part of a much more insidious and calculated campaign to criminalize conservative thought.

Next they will ramp up support to regulate free speech on radio airwaves and the like. They want to illegalize opposition to liberal thought and are willing to accuse, indict and prosecute anyone who stands in the way of that Socialist goal.

Here are some lowlights of the left-wing media’s death wishes:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

■ “I’m waiting for the day when I pick it up, pick up a newspaper or click on the Internet and find out he’s choked to death on his own throat fat or a great big wad of saliva or something, you know, whatever. Go away, Rush, you make me sick!” — Left-wing radio host Mike Malloy on the January 4, 2010 Mike Malloy Show, talking about Rush Limbaugh going to the hospital after suffering chest pains.

■ MSNBC’s Chris Matthews in 2009 fantasized about the death of Rush Limbaugh: “Somebody’s going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he’s going to explode like a giant blimp”

■ Author/humorist P.J. O’Rourke: “It’s the twilight of the radio loud-mouth, you know? I knew it from the moment the fat guy-”
Host Bill Maher: “You mean Rush Limbaugh and Sean-”
O’Rourke: “-from the moment the fat guy refused to share his drugs....”
Maher: “You mean the OxyContin that he was on?...Why couldn’t he have croaked from it instead of Heath Ledger?” — HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, February 8, 2008.

■ MSNBC’s Amy Robach in 2006 mildly wondered if “Death of a President” movie depicting the imagined assassination of President Bush was “poor taste or, as some say, thought-provoking?”

■ On his radio show in 2009, Ed Schultz wished for Dick Cheney’s death: “He is an enemy of the country, in my opinion, Dick Cheney is, he is an enemy of the country … Lord, take him to the Promised Land, will you?”

■ Also on his radio show, in 2010, Schultz shouted: “Dick Cheney’s heart’s a political football. We ought to rip it out and kick it around and stuff it back in him!”

■ Then-Air America host Montel Williams in 2009 urged Congresswoman Michele Bachmann to kill herself: “Slit your wrist! Go ahead! I mean, you know, why not? I mean, if you want to – or, you know, do us all a better thing. Move that knife up about two feet. I mean, start right at the collarbone.”

■ Writing on the Huffington Post in 2007, radio host Charles Karel Bouley mocked: “I hear about Tony Snow and I say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you? Work for Fox News, spinning the truth in to a billion knots and how can your gut not rot?”

■ “I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.” — Host Bill Maher on his HBO show Real Time, March 2, 2007, discussing how a few commenters at a left-wing blog were upset that an attempt to kill Vice President Cheney in Afghanistan had failed.

■ “Earlier today, a rental truck carried a half a million ballots from Palm Beach to the Florida Supreme Court there in Tallahassee. CNN had live helicopter coverage from the truck making its way up the Florida highway, and for a few brief moments, America held the hope that O.J. Simpson had murdered Katherine Harris.” — Bill Maher on ABC’s Politically Incorrect, November 30, 2000.

■ Host Tina Gulland: “I don’t think I have any Jesse Helms defenders here. Nina?”
NPR’s Nina Totenberg: “Not me. I think he ought to be worried about what’s going on in the Good Lord’s mind, because if there is retributive justice, he’ll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it.” — Exchange on the July 8, 1995 Inside Washington, after Helms said the government spends too much on AIDS.

■ “I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease....He is an absolutely reprehensible person.” — USA Today columnist and Pacifica Radio talk show host Julianne Malveaux on Justice Clarence Thomas, November 4, 1994 PBS To the Contrary.

Personally, I don't find any

Submitted by bkeyser on Wed, 01/12/2011 - 12:20pm.

Personally, I don't find any of it offensive. They're just words. But the larger point remains: Liberals pathologically incriminate Conservatives for the exact same actions.

The only time someone should be implicated in a crime of accessory is if they say "I urge everyone within earshot of my voice to do [something]", and [something] actually happens within a reasonable timeframe. Outside of that, it's just free speech. If it weren't Hollywood -in toto- better be girding their loins.

Call them out in public

Submitted by gwalt on Wed, 01/12/2011 - 12:34pm.

A nice Krugman ad a la General Betray-us. Point the finger at him and Olberdork on one of your billboards Mr. Bozell. Call them out by name over and over and over until people get the message these people are liars and corrupted by this administration. Krauthammer diagnosed Krugman with a mental disorder today---although he didn't say which one, though I'm sure he knows.

Good list, but you shouldn't

Good list, but you shouldn't have had to go back ten years to get material.  There's plenty of recent vitriol.  Michelle Malkin has a list just of Obama's

The point is, this is not

Submitted by Barack_must_go..... on Thu, 01/13/2011 - 5:50am.

The point is, this is not some new phenomenon, exclusive to the Tea Party or any other group.

It has been an intergral part ( for better or worse ) of the political landscape and discourse forever.

Want a break from Tuscon?

Sometimes it's hard to remember we're all on the same team.  That's why http://mittromneycentral.com/2011/01/12/congressman-pence-introduces-bil... was so refreshing and timely.  Before the race for 2012 officially starts, we should get as many people to read that wonderful piece as we can.  Then, in 2012 we can bring America back!

Well said, Brent...but these

Submitted by marpel on Wed, 01/12/2011 - 1:24pm.

Well said, Brent...but these liberals are too self absorbed to care that they are the ones who always lob the first attacks and then run screaming to Mommy.  What concerns me is how many other potsmoking liberals (as this jackass shooter was described) will come out from under their rock and do the same thing to some other blue dog democrat or conservative. He's not the only mean spirited nutjob around...  I think all conservative or blue dog members of Congress, public figures etc, should have a license to carry to protect themselves, especially in light of what the liberals have now injected into the discussion.  They are the irresponsible ones in this rodeo.

If you guys think this is bad?

Submitted by MacWell on Wed, 01/12/2011 - 2:23pm.

Just wait till next year when the elections come. Worse even, if the entire congress and the white house go to republicans, especially conservative republicans, the left will start riots, burn cities, and cause much death, because that is what they do, that is who they are. They can try and hide behind a cause, you pick one, there is so many to choose from, but the left always reverts to their mob mentality when faced with opposition. Just look throughout history, ever hear of a riot caused by a conservative group? Brent, my friend, you're fighting a losing battle. Trying to make sense of the liberal mind is impossible, because it changes at a whim.

I'm looking forward to the next 2 or 3 election cycles, because that will tell us if we the people have really gotten the message that democrats, especially liberal democrats cannot be trusted with something as important as the future of America. It'll also give us time to evaluate the current crop to see if they're all talk.

To make America once again what God intended it to be will be a daunting task. It'll take time, money, and especially, a silent majority that is NEVER AGAIN silent. We the people must stay vigilant, and hold the people whom we send in our stead, accountable for all of their actions, as well as their words.

In this man's humble opinion it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. America must again take the world in hand and determine which governments should be aided in legitimate endeavors, and stop any and all ruthless dictators from ever destroying humanity. These men don't give a damn about anyone or anything but their own fetishes. Power, greed, lust, is all they care about. Why do we, as rational, thinking people, allow these types of people to cause so much human misery. We MUST, at all costs, make it a priority to rid the earth of such men and nations.  Thanks for listening.

In today's Boston Herald there is a story of Joe Kennedy III speaking out against all the vitriol and even though IT GOT RE-EDITED SUDDENLY, he mentioned right wing this and tea partiers etc, etc as the main culprits.

Now local Democrats and bloggers are talking about his greatness and the NEXT Kennedy star when he has NEVER DONE SQUAT but here he USES the eath of 6 wonderful people to jump start a political career.

Brent I posted on the site dealing with "horrid right-wing vitriol", YOUR EXACT list here and I want to thank you with the hope that you are OK with us shoving this list up the collective backsides of the REAL spewers of hate.

NB rocks and other Boston herald posters have made note of this site as well.
