Like everyone else on the morning of October 9, the major media’s first reaction to Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize was shock and disbelief. NBC’s Matt Lauer spoke for the pack when he said he didn’t want to be "rude," but how did Obama earn it? Washington Post columnist (and former reporter) Ruth Marcus was blunt: "This is ridiculous -- embarrassing, even." She said the award is supposed to be for "doing, not being."
That is true, but for the swelling group of Americans who are not enamored of Obama, that could easily be turned around on the media: why would you, of all people, question the inflated judgment of the five Norwegian prize pickers? They are merely doing the same thing you’ve been doing for five years: praising Obama far beyond his actual job experience or accomplishments, and building a powerful myth of a global savior in an effort to put the international socialist Left in power, eclipsing America once and for all.
The Nobel committee tried to deny they were acting like the international equivalent of James Carville when they gave Peace Prizes to Jimmy Carter in 2002 and to Al Gore in 2007. But this time, they were blunt in saying exactly what the comedians were joking: Obama won the award for not being George W. Bush. It’s true, but it’s not really funny.
"We have to get the world on the right track again," Thorbjoern Jagland, the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, told the New York Times. "Look at the level of confrontation we had just a few years ago. Now we get a man who is not only willing but probably able to open dialogue and strengthen international institutions."
The Nobel pickers don’t want to merely honor a peacemaker. They want to help run the world, even if in their drive toward the "right track," they look like they should get a traffic ticket for driving while drunk on Obama. "We are hoping this may contribute a little bit for what he is trying to do," and the prize was offered as "a clear signal to the world that we want to advocate the same as he has done to promote international diplomacy."
For his part, Obama came out to the Rose Garden and pretended to be embarrassed that he was being associated with "transformational" figures that have won the Nobel prize. He also tried the aw-shucks note that his daughter found the news as equal to the family dog’s birthday. But this is a man who routinely compared himself to Abraham Lincoln on the campaign trail. He has about as much humility as Madonna has dignity, and as Carter has tact.
Like the American media, the snobbish Nobel elites are painting the prize as a sort of political cartoon of the Bush foreign policy. They claim Bush was a "go it alone" president, a "unilateral" menace that was incapable of "listening with respect" to others. And normally he did things alone because our "allies" – especially in Europe – were nowhere to be found.
But Bush sought United Nations cooperation on many initiatives, and not just the war on terror. He built alliances to accomplish his objectives. He did more than any other American president to stop the spread of AIDS in Africa, which would seem like a Nobel Peace Prize objective.
The American and Norwegian myth-makers surrounding Obama honor him for his speeches, and for his good intentions. This is what liberals do: congratulate each other for their brilliant brains and bleeding hearts. What actually happens in history is beside the point. Ronald Reagan wins the Cold War, and Jimmy Carter gets the Nobel Prize, because he was well, more peaceful. It’s too comical to be taken seriously.
Reagan and the Bushes were never "honored" by the Nobel nabobs because they didn’t share the organized hatreds of the Left. They didn’t hate international business. They didn’t hate the military. They didn’t hate the idea that democracy and freedom were worth promoting as a superior system to the petty tyrannies that make up the majority of the United Nations.
Obama, on the other hand, wins the prizes because, like his Norwegian brothers, he doesn’t see America as exceptional. He has described his own country as an arrogant power that’s too greedy, too insular, and too uneducated. The self-loathing international community loves a self-loathing American.
Norway’s socialists are in the tank for Obama – just as he is for them. But our national news media oughtn’t be surprised. They are in the tank, too. In ogling Obama, they, like the Nobel Peace Prize committee, are participating in the complete shredding of their credibility as nonpartisan judges of political conduct.

The best part of his success is that other champions and the general public agree that Tiger deserves recognition. Even better, Tiger actively aides others to excel in all they do.
Tiger deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than Obama, because he has actually done something.

Bush was never "honored" by the Nobel nabobs
October 13, 2009 - 13:41 ET by Gary HallBecause the Nobel nabobs never read the news:
Obama was honored by the Nobel nabobs, because they never read the news:
Sen. Obama goes to Kenya in late 2006. He campaigns with and for his friend, Kenyan presidential candidate Raila Odinga. Obama returns home and sends an e-mail to Odinga demanding that for his [Obama's] security [read - security in running for US president] Odinga should never e-mail him directly again.
Odinga, with promises made to the Muslim community Obama's Kenya ghosts:
Odinga loses the election. All hell breaks loose:
Obama runs for president. No questions are asked of him, by the national media. Certainly nothing about his efforts regarding "peace" in Kenya.
Kenya remains engulfed in political unrest. It is not "peaceful." It is bordered by Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda. Let's just say, that it is a region with great national interest - and international interest.
Then Senator Obama, and later now President Obama is subject to what from our national press? Nothing more than a simple curiosity revolving around their excitement that their guy is of Kenyan blood. That's the end of the media's curiosity.
Peace starts at home, Mr. President. You have two choices of home here; Kenya and the US. You have miserably failed in Kenya. Is the US next?

It Should've Been A Joint Prize Between Presidents Bush & Obama
October 13, 2009 - 22:59 ET by The7SticksWithout President Bush's tenacity to pull through a difficult struggle of brining democracy to the Middle East, we wouldn't be as safe as we are now. President Obama seems to be staying on Bush's course with the current strategy of winning the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and sending additional troops should be proof enough that he cares more about America then he cares about his party, just as President Bush did the same thing: bucking the conventional wisdom of his party to do what is right and just. For these things alone, I believe that in a perfect world, both George W. Bush and Barrack H. Obama would and should share the Nobel Peace prize. And this time it wouldn't be a joke the way it was shared between a terrorist like Yasser Arafat and a good man like Israeli leader Shimon Peres.

peace versus freedom
October 14, 2009 - 08:21 ET by jon_torlinHe's exactly right, that is the only way to a lasting peace. That didn't necessarily mean that was the right THING to do.
There's no such thing as living in peace because there's always going to be some kind of conflict at some point somewhere. This makes Freedom that much more important and much more desirable.
Look at North Korea, they have peace, the kind that's under a strict dictatorship and tyrannical lifestyle of a communist. Sure, most of it might be in the dark (take a look at that satellite photo between south korea and north korea) and the people are living under outright oppression, but the country is at peace through superior firepower of the Korean dictator and his army.
Thanks but no thanks, I'd rather not have peace through superior firepower. I'd rather have the superior firepower so that if some idiot comes along and tries something, we can and will kick their butts until they leave us alone.

"Obama, on the other hand,
October 14, 2009 - 09:19 ET by danebramage"Obama, on the other hand, wins the prizes because, like his Norwegian brothers, he doesn’t see America as exceptional."
This couldn't be more wrong, I'm afraid. America is hated by the left precisely because she is exceptional; precisely because she is the sole exception in the world to the rule that governors should rule the governed. In America, and America alone, the governed rule themselves...via governors appointed and dismissed by them at their pleasure*. Many inroads have been made against the peoples' sovereignty, to be sure, but this remains the reason she is hated and the reason why those who lust after power over the whole world are determined to destroy her--and have totoday all but finished the job.
(*) There is far more to it than this, of course, but the point still stands.
"He has described his own country as an arrogant power that’s too greedy, too insular, and too uneducated."
Indeed, and this is because Obama's fidelity is not to America--if America is defined as that country established by the Constitution of the Founders. Barack Obama, like all leftists, despises that country. The America Obama loves is the new, emerging America--an America defined as a country ruled by intellectual elites for the good of the citizens...as the elites see it.
It is this fundamental equivocation that allows despots like Obama to praise America out of one side of their mouths and trash her out of the other. When he's praising, he's not referring to anything having to do with the America of the Founders--our America; he's referring to the coming authoritarian state, or to whatever building blocks of it already exist and are actively working toward the old order's destruction. When he's trashing, he's referring to our historical, Constitutional, representative democracy, or some aspect of it that still survives and is actively seeking to defend and maintain itself in the face of attacks by such as Obama.
For instance, in the above quote, America is "arrogant" because the American people insist upon keeping her exceptional. We who love our Constitution (perhaps an early version of it) and cling to our institutions and traditions--we who insist that our leaders look out for OUR best interests and not those of our enemies...we, and hence, our country, are "arrogant" for not throwing up our hands in surrender to Obama and his fellow one-world tyrants. "Greedy," "insular," and "uneducated" are all gratuitous insults tacked on to flesh out the preceding "arrogant" for his leftist listeners, who understand the code:
"Greed" is the arrogance of not giving the fruits of your labor to whomever Obama thinks you should give them to.
"Insularity" is the arrogance of not giving a damn what the Norwegians think you should do, nor what they think in general.
"Lack of education" is the arrogance of not agreeing with leftist assumptions about things and therefore coming to entirely different and contradictory conclusions.
"The self-loathing international community loves a self-loathing American."
Wrong again. The international community couldn't love itself more. Likewise, Obama couldn't love himself or the coming despotism he's trying to inaugurate any more. What Obama loathes, which the international community of leftists also loathes, is our America, the old America.
