Bozell Column: Obama's Olympic Arrogance

In the category of "intentional misunderstandings" about the political fiasco over the 2016 Summer Olympics, liberals win the gold medal. Cheers and laughs broke out in conservative offices and radio studios on the morning of October 2 when Chicago’s bid came in dead last. This was not an exercise in behavior so flagrantly unpatriotic that it’s almost like a flag-burning indoors. It was rejoicing over a come-uppance for the massive, media-enabled egomania of the Obamas and their team of so-called political geniuses inside the White House.

As the Drudge Report and Rush Limbaugh put it: "The Ego Has Landed."

Let’s not kid ourselves: The embarrassment over Chicago finishing dead last in Copenhagen was also felt by the multitude of Obama promoters in the media that almost unanimously jumped to the supine conclusion that victory for Chicago was assured once the president announced his plan to bless the International Olympic Committee with his presence.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

The reports of the president’s trip led the nightly news on ABC, as anchor Charlie Gibson breathlessly announced that "no president has ever made such an appeal," but "the president decides to travel thousands of miles for a last-minute personal pitch." CBS substitute anchor Harry Smith oozed: "The Olympic motto is 'swifter, higher, stronger.' Apparently, President Obama is taking that to heart."

Over video of their hero Obama fencing, NBC reporter Savannah Guthrie gushed: "From his candidate days to earlier this month on the White House lawn, where he picked up some pointers on fencing, the President has established himself as a kind of Olympics super-fan." The buzz in Chicago was Obama’s trip, she said. Everyone there was thrilled. "Sending our top guy over there to make the pitch is the right thing to do," said one woman. "Much more optimistic. I already felt pretty optimistic about it, but I think now more than ever we have a very good chance of getting the games," said a man. NBC is the network for Obama "superfans."

From there, the gush only grew in intensity and sweetness. CBS anchor Katie Couric said the Obamas and Oprah Winfrey were leading "Chicago’s Olympic Dream Team." NBC morning anchor Natalie Morales exclaimed "It doesn’t get any better in terms of PR blitzes than this."

Then there was reporter Yunji de Nies on ABC, who was so enthralled by White House spin that she passed along the "dream team" mantra and everything else the Obamas wanted to float. Her most servile claim? That Michelle would be talking about her own personal story of growing up in Chicago: "We’re told there won’t be a dry eye in the house by the time she’s done."

Ouch. See what I mean by embarrassment? These "experts" are going to need blow torches to remove the egg from their faces. And that’s what has the conservative camp howling in laughter.

And it’s why the Left is enraged in turn. As far as they’re concerned, opposing Obama is unpatriotic. Laughing at him – well, that must be treasonous. Yes, these are the sentiments from the same crowd that spent eight years hurling invectives at and falsehoods about George Bush.

But don’t take my word for it. Consider the sentiments of MSNBC’s Ed Schultz, who blamed Republican negativity for Chicago’s defeat, and then truly lost control of his mental faculties: "They only support America when it's good for their political agenda. What the Republicans did, I think, rivals Jane Fonda sitting on a gun in North Vietnam."

An American actress sitting with an anti-aircraft gun that shoots down American pilots is now comparable to laughing at the failure of Obama’s vaunted oratorical gifts.

When Chicago lost, these same "news" networks proclaimed unanimously that the American bid lost "despite" or "in spite of" the "high-powered, star-studded" speeches. None of them could imagine the notion that the Obama speeches may have actually soured people on Chicago, or even left the vote unmoved. The Obama charisma is like a dogma of the Democratic faith that cannot be doubted.

At the end of CBS’s "Face the Nation" on Sunday, anchor Bob Schieffer sneered at conservatives that "the world did not end Friday....When I drove in this morning, theWashington Monument was still standing." Schieffer did not grasp that this was the conservative argument: the whole trip was, in historical terms, frivolous, and self-indulgent to boot.

In the fiasco’s aftermath, NPR’s Juan Williams explained that the Obamas felt a Chicago Olympics would be a great "bookend" for their second term, and that their racial appeal would lead the African nations to vote for America. Assuming Obama’s going to sail to a second term could be just as wrong as assuming the Chicago Olympics bid was in the bag.

Boy after reading the

Boy after reading the glowing reports by Pravda media before the annoucement of the location of the 2016 Olympic Games, I now know why I don't watch alphabet network news. I would have gone into sugar shock.

BTW there was a lot joy and grins in my household!!!

Facts are like kryptonite to the liberal.

I'm John Kerry!

I guess I must be John Kerry! I was for the Olympics before I was against them! As a resident of the Chicago suburbs, I started out supporting the idea. However, after awhile, I just got so sick of hearing about it from Hizzoner Daley and the media that I turned against the idea! When the Triple Os were added to the mix, that was pure puke for me! I rooted for Rio and applauded when they were announced as the winners! YEA RIO!

Yeah, screw Chicago! That

Yeah, screw Chicago!

That city sucks anyway!  Whoo-hoo!!!!

I have nothing against

I have nothing against Chicago, my dad's side of the family are from there and I loved to visit.  It was the hubis in both the "Olympic Dream Team," and the Pravda media cheerleaders that got their comeuppance that made me happy!!

Yeah, totally!  Score one

Yeah, totally!  Score one of the anti-Obama set!  No Olympics in Chicago - lets hear a GOOOOOOO TEAM!!!

ARZ Just a bunch of white guys right ( and one white gal)

just say no

I don't even know what that

I don't even know what that means, but you can't bring me down today!  I am pumped!!!

What's hilarious is for days

What's hilarious is for days before they flew to Copenhagen, the media was saying it was in the bag.  Even some on our side figured it was since Barack Hussein Obama was going over there to wow the IOC and secure the 2016 Olympics in Chicago.

Screw Chicago? More like

Screw Chicago? More like congratulations. Now they get to avoid the boondogle of all boondogles.

The majority of Chicago

The majority of Chicago residents did not want the Olympics, much the same a majority of New Yorkers did not want the Olympics.

There are far more

There are far more important things than the Olympics that Obama could have been working on.  I think he just wanted to tiniest little win to have something positive on his report card full of F's.  With Record unemployment and deficit, I don't want him running around Copenhagen with is Wife and Oprah for crying out loud.  H ebrought all of this on himself and the media can't believe it because they stll have the rosey glasses on.

No, it was not Olympic arrogance

No, it was not Olympic arrogance on the part of Obama--just as it was not arrogance on the part of Tony Blair when he went to Paris to lobby for London's selection as the 2012 host city, nor on the part of the King and Queen of Spain or the leader of Brazil, all of whom made the recent trek to Copenhagen on behalf of their respective countries.  It was, however, a risk for Obama, and eventually proved to be an embarrassing miscalculation.

On the other hand, the giddiness of the anti-Obama "I hope he fails" political Right was by no means treasonous, or even mildly unpatriotic, but the level of intensity of the reaction was, if not shocking, at the very least undignified.  And the video clip of the whooping, hand-clapping, back-slapping "victory" celebration by a congregation of young conservatives upon hearing the "Chicago is out!" announcement should make an effective commercial for the Democrats during next year's mid-term election campaign.

Jer

Jer

There's a very valid and plausible reason why young, middle aged, and old conservatives, from all over this country, I'm sure, are whooping and yaying over Chicago losing the bid.

You know what? I'll let you guess what it is...

Obama taking one to the

Obama taking one to the FACE!!!  The IOC totally punked his ass in front of the whole world!  That is how it's done, son!

Who let the [liberal] dogs

Yeah, old music videos!

Yeah, old music videos!

the anti-Obama "I hope he

the anti-Obama "I hope he fails" political Right  -Jer

Yes, a lot of us did hope he would fail at this, because everyone indulges in a bit of Schaedenfreude at times. And this is a minor humiliation for him (it will be forgotten by the end of the year) that does not hurt the country as a whole.

Yes, It was Olympic Size Arrogance

If it was not a slam dunk, assured result that the U.S., was going to host the next Olympics, Soetoro should not have gone. It was Olympic size arrogance, on his part and his staff's part, that assumed that by Soetoros' mere presence in Denmark, that the awe factor would swing the deal.

This is partially the result of a suck up SRM giving Soetoro the impression that he can do no wrong and Soetoro's own narcissism. He and Michelle really wore out "I's" and "we's" while there. Its all about them, doncha know?

And if you look at the

And if you look at the screenshot of him at the top of this posting, it looks like he is saying the word "I" right there.

LOL...

Wow, it really does.

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I'm from the government, and I'm here to help.'" ~Ronald Reagan

That would be me, Jer

And let me tell you why.  I, for one, don't think it undignified at all.  What IS undignified (and inexcusable), is Obama bowing to the Saudi King, insulting the Queen of England (and no, I don't mean iPods....I mean Normandy), sucking up to dictators like Chavez and Ahmadinijad, and stabbing allies like the Poles and Czechs in the back.  That's just Obama....and my list is nowhere near complete.  These are merely the most egregious examples.

Furthermore I find it totally undignified that Obama's minions (David Axelrod, et. al.), as well as his adoring media, try to (yet again) lay the blame for Obama's miscalculation in furtherance of his own attempt at making everything about him, blow up in his face (metaphorically)....and then have the unmitigated gall to try to blame it on George Bush.  THAT is undignified.

So, you wonder why we conservatives are happy at this EPIC FAIL?  Think about it, Jer.  Because there is absolutely NO WAY anyone, anyone at all (not even Juan Williams, who really gave it a good shot) can successfully spin this failure.  We are sick and tired of this administration lying to our faces...hey, the stimulus is working, ignore that 9.8% unemployment.  Most ethical administration, 36 Czars and counting, transparency....what, can't post a bill on the internet?  Collecting phone numbers of the opposition?  I could go on, but I'm sure you get my point.

So Bravo, Mr. Bozell.  The Left hates being laughed at worse than anything, and this latest fiasco of Obama's certainly qualifies for hoots of derision at the enormous hubris of the man.

Blow torches indeed, removing all that baked on egg on their faces, the egg that arrived there by their own stupidity.

I hope he fails, too.

Jer,

I'd appreciate a reply....I see where you were coming from, I'd like to know whether or not you see where I'm coming from.

I hope he fails, too.

Blonde...

It's not that I begrudge the Schadenfreude moment no doubt experienced by you and most Republicans at Obama's failure.  [And, I agree, it was indeed a failure and an embarrassment.]  But the very public rejoicing was, in my opinion, unseemly and childish.  Again, scenes of simultaneous exultation--in Rio for winning, and in the USA for [Obama] losing--were surreal, even if not inexplicable.  If this had been Bush and the palpable jubilation a reaction by liberals, the episode would be dominating the pages of NB as a prime example of boorish, knee-jerk Bush-hatred.

In regard to the examples in your opening paragraph, I respect your opinion but disagree entirely with your characterizations.

Jer

So Jer,

You know how much I hate the turn-it-around....and we've heard ad nauseum "Mission Accomplished"....so I'll leave it at that.

I see you totally ignored my later points, that we are sick and tired of being lied to by Obama and his minions....these have no merit for you?  You don't get that?

And that it is totally childish and Obama deserves our derision for allowing the spin that "it was George Bush's fault"?

When do you think he'll take any responsibility for anything?  Because I just don't see it happening, maybe not ever.

I hope he fails, too.

Sorry, Blonde...

You've lost me.  What does "Mission Accomplished" have to do with anything?  And how is Obama supposed to squelch any and all "blame Bush" sentiment?  Pardon the additional turnaround argumentation, but, for gosh sakes, Bill Clinton is still being blamed by Republicans.  Apparently, Bush wasn't very successful in stomping that out.

How should I address the fact you are sick and tired of Obama and his minions?  I acknowledge that you are.  I wish you weren't, but I'm guessing you will be as long as he is in office.

Jer

Okay, I see, never mind

You refuse to address anything, fine.

<edit>  I said LIED to by Obama and his minions.  Not that I'm sick and tired of them, I am sick and tired of being LIED TO.

I hope he fails, too.

Blonde...

I noticed right after posting that you said "lied", but my reply would have still been the same either way.  It is impossible to address the other points of your posts without it provoking an "Oh yeah...says you" exercise in futility.

If I were to say--(but which I don't believe)--"I don't like George Bush.  He was a lousy president.  What do you think about that?"...how would you debate it?

Why don't we just stick to the specific issue of Obama's Olympic failure and the propriety of the reaction.  I am not arguing with your reasons for not feeling any remorse for his failure.  My issue is the manner in which some expressed that lack of remorse:  cheers, applause, and raucous laughter.

When JFK was assassinated, there were some who didn't particularly mourn his loss.  There were also a few who actually stood up and cheered.  I have a problem with that latter group.  [And I use that example only to emphasize it is the nature of the reaction which is troubling.]

Jer

Jer,

All I can say is I am extremely disappointed with your replies.

Extremely.

I hope he fails, too.

Blonde...

Swap places.  Give me an example of what you would have considered an un-disappointing reply.

Jer

edited to add:  I'll be out of town tomorrow, but when I get back, I promise to address and respond to every single question you asked, every single statement you made, and every single point you raised in your original post.  I don't see how it will produce anything positive, but I sure don't want you to be angry or disappointed with me because of my failure to do so.

Let's see, Jer.

Addressing my points in my original post, one by one, would have been a nice start.  So....this is kind of what I expected of you, Jer, since you are normally very forthcoming:

Well, Blonde....I can see how someone of your political persuasion would see those items as failures.

And you may have a point about the  blaming of certain Obama shortcomings as belonging to George Bush.  While many things that have happened of late certainly have origins within the Bush administration, the failure of the Chicago Olympic bid may unfortunately belong in part to Obama's over-reaching.  I concede the point.

Although I disagree with you Blonde, I see how you might feel you've been lied to.  I, too, have qualms about what the Obama administration has been doing from a Constitutional standpoint.  And I certainly understand your concerns that what was promised has not been delivered.  Particularly on the transparency issue.

As I said, Jer, I am totally disappointed by your response.  I expected much more than a party line platitude, and a reiteration of your orignal contention that the response to Obama's uber-hubris fail was "undignified".

Your initial response to me was to do the old flip-flop....."What about Bush"?  Jer, I expected a whole hell of alot more from you than THAT.  Hence my "Mission Accomplished"....I was attempting to wake you up!

You are more than welcome to disagree with me on my opening para....but I'd like to see you defend the bow, the dissing of the Queen, and the stabbing of our allies.....I've not read any more follow up, but it is not a good thing when your allies won't answer the SecState's phone calls, eh?

I am totally baffled at your refusal to acknowledge my (and our) very real concerns at the administration's spin and lying.

So yes, Jer, I am more than disappointed by your throw-away response to me.  I expected much more from you.

I hope he fails, too.

Jer

"Why don't we just stick to the specific issue of Obama's Olympic failure and the propriety of the reaction."

Since this is about citizens rooting for some kind of national "failure", as a comparison, and your jedgement of this reaction, it's like this...

On one hand you have:

The U.S. loses a bid to host the Olympics. Obama -- a man most of us despise for so many hugely legitimate reasons, it would take forever to list them -- was peddling for it, and for his hometown, no less, that is the swampland of his corrupt political background, and no doubt winning it for Chicago puts the least important feather in the cap of a do-nothing CIC, as well as putting money into the highly corrupt coffers of the Chicago machine.

People who can't stand this man and where he was politically raised are HAPPY he lost the Chicago bid. Perfectly fine and not "trouble" at all for them to be pleased, as their are bids every four years.

On the other:

While the U.S. was at war (no, make that TWO wars) during the Bush years, people who hated him were HAPPY he was losing or we were in a "quagmire". The propriety of THAT reaction is deeply troubling.

Shy...

Not dodging you.  I'll be back on Friday.  See you then.

Jer

Jer

Sounds good. And you're so dang quick, I couldn't correct the word *judgement. :( ... and these mistakes....

People who can't stand this man and where he was politically raised are HAPPY he lost the Chicago bid. Perfectly fine and not *"troubling" at all for them to be pleased, as *there are bids every four years.

ALSO, I was adding a closing that brought it back to Blonde's mention of the "Mission Accomplished" banner (or so I'm guessing here), and how the MSM and liberals could not wait to ridicule him over that (not to mention, they deliberately gave the banner their own translation, as it's actual meaning was TRUE.)

Sorta Reminds Me........

Sorta reminds me of the Clinton political laughing and whooping it up on election night of 1992 as they watched Dana Carvey making fun of Bush One. Of course, its only undignified when done by Conservatives against The One! Well Jer, screw your dignity! I don't care! With all the insults thrown at us for the last thirty years, the gloves are off! If you send me to the hospital, I'll send you to the morgue!

You're partly right, Jer.

"No, it was not Olympic arrogance on the part of Obama..."

You're partly right, Jer.  it wasn't the arrogance of Obama, so much, that is causing "celebration" amongst the conservatives. It was the obvious idolaton on the part of the MSM ( and a lot of other people)who believed, beyond any reasonable  expectation, that Obama would 'take home the gold" and who were visibly disappoint that he failed that is fueling this celebration.

The MSM spend a lot of time and effort building up what they thought was going to be Obama's victory.  They never even considered that Obama may fail.  They believed their own hype about the power of Obama's "global popularity" and his "rock star" image, an image they carefully cultivated over the last year or so.  They believed in their own hype so much that  I don't think they even considered that Obama may fail.  But fail he did!

The MSM  believed their own hype about Obama's invincibility to such an extent  that they staked their very reputation on him.  This has shamed them greatly.  But do they admit their mistake and learn from it?  No, they now try to blame anyone else for their mistaken belief that Obama would, somehow, "turn the tide" in Chicago's favor even thought Rio was the favored choice, something that was known to Obama before he even made his last minute dash to Copenhagen. A dash, btw, that landed him in last place.

Leave it to Jer to petulantly jump up and down like a screaming, temper tantrum throwing five year old, pointing Right and screaming "SEE!  SEE! SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE! SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  SEE!  THEY DO IT TOO!  THEY DO IT TOO!  THEY DO IT TOO!  THEY DO IT TOO!  THEY DO IT TOO!"

Jer, Lula was at Copenhagen cheering on Rio.  So what?  Bush the Elder did not campaign for Atlanta in 1990 when they got the Games.  Nor did Carter campaign for Los Angeles in 1978 - because admittedly, he did not have to.   And so on.  No President has done this before, and for good reason.  Presidents show up to open the Games when held in this country and might stick around but that's the extent of it.

What was undignified - and since you are a hack, deeply Frenching icons of your God, His Majesty The Shahinshah, as much as possible, I do not expect you to understand it - was Him going to Copenhagen to attempt to strong-arm the IOC.

Don't whine to me about leaders of other great superpowers like the deeply feared King Juan Carlos I of Spain showing up, or "Excellency" himself, Juan Antonio Samaranch (who already got an Olympics in his own damned hometown in 1992!), or Lula, or whoever, showing up - who the hell elsewhere except for foreign policy obsessives like me know who Lula is? - they do not have the clout of the President of the United States.  No one cares where Lula goes, except maybe residents of Brasilia and his countrymen - but people pay attention when Air Force One shows up.

The last time the IOC was strong-armed was in 1974, when the Soviets whined that they would leave the IOC if Moscow didn't get the 1980 Games (and boy did that turn out great!).  I would prefer that our great American cities who want to snag the Olympics and its bills do it on their own dime, and win on their own merits, as they shall.  In the meantime, it's good to see Rio get the Games - one has been needed in South America for years.  Maybe Africa will get one or two in my lifetime with any luck.

By the way - there is ALWAYS 2020.

It WAS good wasn't it.

Blow torches to remove egg/face.....good one.    That was a good day.   Watching all those Obamatrons stunned with disbelief that Obama was a mere mortal was a tonic for my soul.    I absolutely loved it.   The best part was watching the big party they had ready in Chicago turn into a funeral.    It was hilarious to see so many Obama supporters eat some crow.

Blame it on Rio

"Man, all those people wanted to go to the Olympics in Chicago, and now they can't"

People really need to get a grip.  Just because America isn't hosting the Olympics, it doesn't me we can, or won;t, do well IN the Olympics.  All it means is that we lose the prestige of hosting the games.

Some Americans won't be able to revel in the grandeur, the spectacle, of those games here in America.  So what? That's  no more devastating as "losing" your city's bid to host the Super Bowl.

You know, it never ceases to

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how you act like those liberal bastards that hoped President Bush would fail in everything he did (I have said previously that I was one of those liberal bastards who did the very thing, and if I had a time machine to go back to that time, I would pistol-whip my seventeen-year-old self's ass for that, whatever pistol-whipping means. That's what Uma Thurman was doing in Kill Bill 1, where she spanks that Crazy 88 kid's ass with the broad side of her samurai sword, right?)

More to the point, it never ceases to amaze me that both sides, the partisan left and the partisan right, seem to care more about their itty-wittle parties than they do about America. You realize that we lost an opportunity at urban renewal with Chicago. When an American city benefits, America benefits, meaning you and I benefit. And now you are cheering the loss of our benefiting from an Olympics in Chicago that could have given us more bang for our buck. But no. You had to act like those liberal bastards and give President Obama the President Bush treatment. It's shameful, and I have a feeling that President Bush would be shaming you all right about now over your disgraceful behavior. You might want to think about that.

"You might want to think

"You might want to think about that."

I thought about that, and you, sir, are no Albert Einstein.

Indeed!

This has much more to do with a nation of people being subjugated by an out-of-control Congress and a lying Media's artificial Savior than behavior. Spinning this in some future political drama as evil or good is irrelevant. President Obama had an obligation to set things right 9 months ago, but he chose to overwhelm us with one liberal scheme after another. As a Conservative I am reeling from the assault. This man doesn't intend to take his time about implementing liberal agenda. While it may serve the Nation right for allowing the Kangaroo Courts of the past to break the will of the people and insert years of apathy, any victory puts a crack in the faberge' egg that the Media are building around him; and to me that means hope for the failure of that really diabolical agenda which will (as sure as I live and breathe) bring about the subjugation of the freedoms we are granted through our Bill of Rights and the Constitution. It's ridiculous to pretend that Socialism leads to anything other than control of The People. But it's a relief to see that his split tongue doesn't actually have the world falling at his feet (so he's not the Antichrist).

"It's ridiculous to pretend that Socialism leads to anything other than control of The People."

Great line! And yes, to everything you've said.

It's ridiculous to

It's ridiculous to pretend that Socialism leads to anything other than control of The People.

The hundreds of millions of citizens who have lived and thrived freely for generations within the myriad western democracies whose economic systems are far more socialist than ours might beg to differ with that assessment.

Socialism is primarily and essentially an economic model rather than an ideological paradigm and not inherently threatening to individual liberties--in contrast to autocracies or oligarchies--so long as democratic institutions and constitutional protections are guaranteed and preserved.

Jer

Please List Those!

Hey Jer please list those millions with some genuine stats!

So tell me, then, what

So tell me, then, what socialist country out there is as powerful with as many opportunities as are afforded to individuals in the United States' free market system where literally anyone can become successful if they try?  Hell some of our wealthiest, most powerful individuals worked their way up from the gutter (for you libs out there, case in point, Sonia Sotomayor).  This is a country where a company can start as a little mom-and-pop organization in a small town, and grow to become an ultra-powerful megacorporation.

Put it this way.  Most of our great inventions have come from people wanting to make a buck providing a service (the light bulb, Coke, etc.).  If we had the wealth distribution system that libs flaunt, what would be the incentive to create these inventions?  Why should I put my energy towards innovation and hard work if as soon as I hit a salary cap the rest of my money's going to go to some fatass single mom with 14 kids who suckles from the government's teat (lookin at you Octomom)?

Why choose the lesser of two evils?

Whoa, Nelly!

First, you are being ridiculous.

Second, where's their Middle Class?

Third, exactly how many generations and which countries?

Fourth, what do you call it when all your goods and services come from your Government and you suddenly find yourself on the quarterly list of citizens who no longer qualify?

And fifth, I wonder if those "countries" you refer to place any limits on what comes out of the mouths of their people?

Socialism forever works The People to pay for the waste fraud and abuse of Government so that all the ambition-robbing programs that are like money trees growing in the yards of Politicians continue their gasping, wheezing, morbidly obese existence.

I'm no fool like you, Jer, Socialism is the "get rich" for Government and elites and removes the power of the people to hold a moral standard against it. But I love ya anyway!  =)

Yep

[" It's ridiculous to pretend that Socialism leads to anything other than control of The People. But it's a relief to see that his split tongue doesn't actually have the world falling at his feet "]

Yep, next "big war" we'll have to go bail them socialist wimps out again. I had a good big laugh when the olympic verdict came in, i hope the o-Dumb-uh duck fails at everything he tries to do, "sooner rather than later".

The funny part is us

The funny part is us conservatives did zippo to Obama, he did it to himself with the help of the SCM.  We just laughed; its like Moe poked Curly in the eyes, yes its was that kind of laugh.  Except we know the libs did not think it was funny.  We want Obama's to make some good conservative policies and succeed but he is making his own and we want those to fail and fail quickly.  And guess hwta they are as we knew they would.

Know how to keep a Troll in suspense?  Ill tell ya in the morning.

Is perfectly capable of dragging itself out of the gutter whether the Olympics came to the city or not. The fact is, that seems to be where it feels most comfortable.

Kossacks hate me. And yes, it does feel good.

This wasn't a lost

This wasn't a lost opportunity for urban renewal for Chicago. It was a lost opportunity for Olympic graft for Obama's Chicago political cronies.

Spot on

Why do you think all of Obama's Chicago cronies are blaming Bush?  Jesse, Roland Burris, Valerie Jarret, et. al. are furious at the lost opportunity.

I, for one, couldn't be happier than to see their great hope to line their own pockets be, um, changed.  :)

I hope he fails, too.

Yeah!!!  Let's do away with

Yeah!!!  Let's do away with the Olympics all together!  They're dirty, and everybody knows it!!!

Permanent Olympic facilities

Here's a better idea:  Find some neutral area on the Earth (there's plenty of small islands available) and build a PERMANENT Olympic City, a PERMANENT home for the Games.  This way we can avoid, altogether, the inherent corruption in the "host" selection process and we can turn the games back to what they were intended to be, an international armature sporting competition.

Chicago LOST!  I suggest you learn to deal with it.

You're beginning to act like a spoiled child, angry that you didn't get what you wanted, so you run around and say stupid things just to get attention. placing blame on others because they're not a upset as you are that YOU didn't get what YOU wanted.  That's how toddlers act, not adults. Grow up, baby, and learn to deal with disappointments.

BTW, The UN could fund the Olympics, you know.  Of course, America would bear the largest burden of this, as it does will all UN funded projects, but it would be FAR cheaper than bearing the FULL burden of building BRAND NEW FACILITIES every time we host the Olympics.  It cost upwards of a BILLION dollars to host the Olympics, just ONE TIME!  Or have you forgotten about that?

Um, I don't think it's

Um, I don't think it's Obama's fault.

Non-issue?

This WAS a non-issue until your God, His Majesty The Shahinshah, stupidly made it won by going to Copenhagen.  Had He just stayed away, no one would care.

In fact, until I heard about His impromptu trip to Copenhagen, this was the way I saw the 2016 bid:

I wanted the final vote to look like 1) Rio, 2) Chicago, OR 1) Chicago, 2) Rio.  I like seeing the United States get the Games.  Failing that, Rio would have been cool because South America had never gotten the Games before.  If Madrid or Tokyo had gotten it, I would have been bent, because Spain hosted the Games in 1992, and Tokyo itself had hosted one in 1964.

What killed the Chicago bid for me was the attempt by His Majesty The Shahinshah to strong-arm the IOC into giving the Games to Chicago.  Thus, when Rio got the Games - and Chicago finished dead last - I was quite content.

No American President visited the IOC to plead for the Games - we haven't had to.  St. Louis, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Squaw Valley, Denver (later rejected and sent packing to Innsbruck), and Lake Placid all got the Games on some silly thing called merit.  And that is the ONLY way I want American cities to get the Games.

Besides, there is ALWAYS 2020.

Sorry, I just find it hard

Sorry, I just find it hard to believe that there are so many conservatives that had some vested interest in the Olympic host city selection.  It just ends up looking like no matter what he does, everybody on the right will want him to fail.  And not in the way that Rush SAID he meant it, but in the way he ACTUALLY meant it.  If he wants one thing, then most of the right will want the opposite to happen, even if it's something that they never cared about before.

AR Zippers:

Many did not give a damn until His Majesty The Shahinshah made a major political blunder. He should have done what every other President has done: stayed home and awaited the IOC's decision.  THEN, if Chicago had gotten the Games, He could have lobbed Mayor Daley and the Olympic Committee a congratulatory phone call.  If He had done that, no one would have cared.

The instant He decided to try and strong-arm the IOC, conservatives began to care.  None would have peeped if He had done what all other Presidents have done.

You are under no obligation to buy my post above, of my wanting Chicago and Rio to battle for the 2016 Games in the final round. I will say this: I look at the Olympics precisely because it is an intersection of two great obsessions of mine: international relations/events, and sports.  I am already looking for who will compete for the 2020 Games, and the candidate cities for the 2018 and 2022 Winter Games, just because I like doing that.  Anyways...

It just ends up looking like no matter what he does, everybody on the right will want him to fail.  I wanted Him to fail because seeing Him beg the IOC for the Games was embarrassing.  America WILL host another Games; it is a matter of time.  The IOC is NOTHING without the United States.  And whatever city wants them can, and should, win by merit.  I do not want to see the President of the United States begging and pleading for the Olympics or attempting to strong-arm them, or whatever description you wish to use.  If Atlanta got the Games without the help of Bush the Elder (for one example), Chicago could have gotten it all on their own.

Re Blaming Bush

Only blaming Bush in public; you just know there had to be some white-hot screaming matches going on between the White House and the Chicago crowd over the total mismanagement of the effort. Did the Chicago crowd send the President there knowing that Chicago was a long shot? Did they lie to the Bamster and M'chell and tell them it was in the bag? Did Daley order the Bamster to do this if he wanted Illinois electoral votes in 2012, which he controls?

To be a fly on the wall...

Urban what?

"You realize that we lost an opportunity at urban renewal with Chicago"

YOU may not realize this, but building an "Olympic city" has NOTHING to do with urban renewal.  As a matter of fact, business and homes would have had to be taken away from the people who owned them , by eminent domain no doubt, just to provide the land necessary to BUILD the Olympic facilitates that would have been required.

How is seizing land and property of the citizens of Chicago in order to build a one-time-use Olimpic "city" considered "urban renewal?"  Do you think that the facilities would, somehow, be turned BACK into homes and business properties?  I sure hope not as I would hate to think that people can the THAT clueless!

" When an American city

" When an American city benefits..."  And, what benefit would that be?  Can you name one city hosting the Olympics in the last 40 years that actually benefitted from it?  It has taken Montreal 30 years to pay off the debt they acquired by hosting the Olympics.  30 years!  The Beijing venue is mostly abandoned and deteriorating (already!) instead of being used, so how can it be a benefit to Beijing?  The only ones in Chicago who would have benefited from the Olympics going to Chicago would have been people like Obama buddy Valerie Jarret who owned the land that the Olympic venue would have been built upon.

So, yes, I am happy that the Chicago corruption machine did not get to enrich themselves even more at the expense of the taxpayers.  The fact that Ear Leader had his ego taken down a few notches is an added bonus, as is the fact that the "unbiased" media cheerleading team ended up pimp slapped into next week.

10 Steps to be An Obama Supporter/Worshiper

1) An Obama Supporter must first believe that there is 'No Higher Power' than Barack Obama.

2) An Obama Supporter must believe that 'Facts, Logic and Reason' are partisan lies spread by a right wing conspiracy.

3) An Obama Supporter must believe that Equal Rights and Protections for every legal American Citizen - no more - no less - is an 'Evil and Racist Plot'.

4) An Obama Supporter must believe that Abortion shows true empathy, compassion and mercy, but capital punishment is cruel and unusual punishment.

5) An Obama Supporter must believe that leaving babies who survive abortion to die in painful agony alone and without any medical help is only right because a woman contracted for a 'Dead Baby', but the sleep deprivation of a Terrorist to save thousands of lives is torture.

6) An Obama Supporter must believe that a law-abiding American Citizen who arm themselves to protect their family is more of a threat than madmen in Iran acquiring Nuclear Weapons.

7) An Obama Supporter must believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas, set-asides and Affirmative Action aren't.

8) An Obama Supporter must believe that Homosexual Parades and teaching Homosexuality in schools is 'Free Speech', but stating Homosexuality is NOT normal is 'Hate Speech'.

9) An Obama Supporter must believe that businesses and a free market create oppression and only the government creates prosperity.

10) An Obama Supporter must believe that stealing the money and property of those who work hard and giving those stolen goods to the indolent and law-breakers will create harmony and peaceful co-existence.

What the media ignored . . .

While King Obama was heralding his impending presence in Copenhagen, the MSN tried to ignore the growing epidemic of gang related crime throughout Chicago affecting primarily the Black community young and old.

I had a cab driver in Chicago from the airport a month ago who was telling me about the crime problem. In his case one of his sons was killed for refusing to join a gang. He was an Obama supporter but felt he had turned his back on his people by choosing to side with Mayor Daley in making the city pretty for the OLympic bid and not doing anything about the safety of the citizens.

Take this cab driver who represents a majority of Chicago residents - particularly African Americans - and juxtapose him against that happy-faced group of Black elitists (Obamas, Jarrett, Oprah) who went to Copenhagen and completely ignoring the plight of their fellow African Americans in the same Chicago they said was a utopia for the Olympics.

If it were not for some Youtube video of a student being beaten to death by a gang of kids outside a school, the media would never have mentioned the epidemic of crime there.
