Covering Up JFK’s Roguish Behavior for 50 Years Not Long Enough for NBC’s Viewers
Following an NBC Nightly News preview Wednesday evening of the Rock Center promotion for a book by Mimi Alford, in which she recounts how the 45-year-old President Kennedy seduced and carried on a sexual relationship with her when she was a 19-year-old White House intern, anchor Brian Williams conveyed the distress of JFK sycophants in his audience – and admitted his family was amongst them.
Talking with Meredith Vieira, Williams cited “a lot of e-mails” from people, who “sounds like a lot of us,” had a “picture of John F. Kennedy in the house when we were kids” and who are now “wondering, why do this now? Why tell her story now?”
Apparently, covering up for Kennedy for 50 years is not long enough for the viewers of a network which employs people who write embarrassingly obsequious books like Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero.

It's interesting to listen to Kennedy-worshippers like Chris Matthews Doris Goodwin explain away JFK's misogyny as "an amazing ability to compartmentalize his life." They separate the dark side of JFK from the Camelot image so as not to tarnish the latter.
Of course, the Camelot image is myth, whereas the dark side is fact, but that doesn't matter to them.
In some respects, Clinton apologists do the same, insisting that the dark side of his character is outweighed by his brilliant performance as President, when the majority of us know that the performance was flawed and dangerous.

Silly me! While reading Brian(Bendover) Williams' comments, "Why do this now? Why tell her story now," I thought I was reading a criticism of the blonde, well used Chicago slut that came out of the fifteen year old woodwork to accuse Herman Cain of sexual advances, etc. My mistake.
I know Williams and his fellow members of the state run media had a field day with the Cain story. Even that paragon of jurisprudence, Gloria Allred got involved. The Kennedys?................never mind.......no news here. What car? What bridge? Surely a man who was thrown out of Harvard for cheating and killed a young girl can become a "Revered" senator. Presidents and here are the reasons why: He was handsome. He had a beautiful wife and family. He was charming, especially during press conferences. He gave a great inaugural speech (Ask not what your Country can do for you, etc.,) and he inspired our race to the moon with another great speech and he was tragically killed in office and finally, last but not least, he was a Democrat! For those reasons and not much more, he is ranked by many liberal historians, as well as the liberal media, in the tier just below Washington and Lincoln.

The Kennedys fit the mold of a Royal Family for the media and the exponentially expanding roll of TV at the time. The media has always been enamored with Europeans and felt like the little sibling to Europe. . . . (I was born in 1954) and older, because we lived through the optimism and celebrity of the Kenendy years and created this myth that somehow the world would've been saved by Jack and Jackie if only he hadn't been murdered.
Adding to the myth was the "hope" that RFK, rising to assume his late brother's mantle, would get us out of the Vietnam War (which his brother had escalated) and bring about the utopian America that JFK would've certainly delivered.
It became almost a religion.
Many of my generation still believe in that crap because they want to. Revelations about the misogynistic and high-risk behavior of the Kennedy brothers tarnish that image, but the worshippers dismiss it as irrelevent. Matthews and others talk about JFK's ability to "compartmentalize" his life, but it's actually THEY who are compartmentalizing his life. They glorifiy the myth while downplaying the fact.
Later generations have difficulty comprehending what all the Kennedy/Camelot fuss is about, and that's understandable. My son (27) and daughter (25) couldn't give a hoot about the Kennedys.
I think the Kennedys are being flushed out of American life like the passing of a 24-hour flu virus, and I say, "It's about time."
There's a similar cult surrounding the memory of John Lennon.

There's truth to what you're saying, Gal - to anyone who ever paid any attention to Teddy the Swimmer, or watched and listened to the crop (crap) of Kennedy's that are out there now - although I don't think any of them are in office anymore - for good reason.
As for Lennon, we've got his music to listen to - and he made a lot of it - and a lot of it is still very good............in fact, I'd say better than anything I've heard lately, and in the upper echelons of the rock'n'roll music library. Plus, I think the guy was a great singer as well as writer.
