Schieffer Warns Viewers DeMint is ‘South Carolina’s Very Conservative Senator’
CBS’s Bob Schieffer decided his viewers needed a special warning about how far out of the mainstream an upcoming guest dwells, plugging at the top of Sunday’s Face the Nation how he’d have as guests Republican presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich – and then: “for context on how it’s going, we’ll bring in South Carolina’s very conservative Senator, Jim DeMint.”
Schieffer normally introduces guests with just their title, such as “ranking member of x committee” or “chairman” of the party. Last summer, however, in also bringing in “context,” he applied ideological tags but avoided identifying his guests as “very” liberal or conservative. On his August 7 program, Schieffer announced how “for context we’ll check in with key players on the left and right – Howard Dean, former chairman of the Democratic Committee and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.”
A few weeks earlier, on June 5, he used a similar formulation: “We’ll hear from both sides today – from the left, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi; and from the right, Republican Governor Haley Barbour.”
So DeMint is “very conservative,” but neither Dean nor Pelosi, amongst his most liberal guests, are “very liberal.”
Back to this Sunday, January 15, Schieffer refrained from any additional ideological labeling, later in his show introducing the South Carolina Senator: “Now for his take on how it’s going, joining us from Greenville, South Carolina, Senator Jim DeMint who is the author of the new book, Now Or Never, and is a leader in the Tea Party movement.”

...just how bias they really are? Either they know and they just don't care, or they don't, which indicates how clueless they are regarding just how badly skewed their reporting is. Should we trust either clueless or apathetic anchors to report the news accurately and without prejudice?

Would be nice just once if we could hear Bob throw in a little accuracy, you know, something like "Senator Putzhead is New York's very stupid Senator"
Forgot to add

We up here in the Great PNW have tried to unseat Gregoire as Governor and especially Murray in the Senate in the last few cycles but the Dems are really good at "digging up votes" when they need them in a close election. Our state has a bad habit of "losing" votes and not getting ballots to those serving in the military in a timely manner.
Hey, wait a minute.

Patty Murray is -- just a little (ha, ha) -- liberal, right?
That makes her "smart" (ha, ha, ha, ...) by [liberals' perverted] definition.
Boy, silly liberals and their silly code words. While they are "deconstructing" our society and our culture, I guess we should expect them to go for our language in the process.

This goes way back. The talking heads used to always use the descriptive, "Ultra" Conservative Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC). But I never heard Ted Kennedy or Robert Byrd addressed as anything other than just "Senator."
To these nattering nabobs, there is no such animal as a liberal. To them a liberal is just normal. Anything else is to the right of them.
I don't think they do know
Submitted by inquiringmind on Mon, 01/16/2012 - 11:05am.
I don't think they do know how liberal they are. I think they feel that they are the middle, the standard, and everything to the right is skin head territory.
I'm not sure how they would define liberal though. They certainly don't feel Obama is liberal.

There are only "conservative" (or extreme right-wing") and "centrist" legislators, dontcha know!
And of course they don't consider Barack Obama a liberal. He's a "centrist" just like the rest of them.

Can you imagine the very liberal MSM introducing any one of the left wing ultra libs on their news shows by describing them as ultra or very liberal??? Aint going to happen. Ever.

Although Demint is very conservative he still does not have a pair as big as Jesse Helms had. There is hope for him.I like Demint. I just wish he was more vocal. He should be in front of every microphone he could like Sen. Scmukie does and let Obama have it on his end runs around the constitution. There doesn't seem to be any Congresscriter doing that except LTC West. The media won't give him the time of day because he is not a lberal balck.

I really miss Jesse. America could use more like him, but I doubt we'll ever see that again.
I LOVED Jesse!
Submitted by Newsbubba on Mon, 01/16/2012 - 12:27pm.
I lived in NC when he was first running for the Senate, and I voted for him every time I could. He was the most honest politician I have ever known.
Jesse would tell you exactly what he was going to do. No mystery or mincing of words to confuse the voters. Then he would say, "If you don't like that, vote for the other guy, because I'm not your man."
The local rag in Raleigh would always have a poll right before he ran (every time!) that showed that Jesse would lose in the next day's election. Funny thing happened on the way to the actual vote. He NEVER lost, and usually won by a huge margin.
I still go up in the summer, and when I pass his summer home on the boat, there is still an American flag being flown by his family. I never fail to salute the memory of that great American.
You know the funniest part?
Submitted by Newsbubba on Mon, 01/16/2012 - 11:20am.
Bob is actually paying DeMint a complement by labeling him "very conservative" to South Carolina viewers, and a majority of voters in the country, for that matter!
He's so damned clueless that he doesn't even realize it!
... not that many actual conservatives even watch his show.
Schieffer could have added
Submitted by celator on Mon, 01/16/2012 - 11:44am.
Schieffer could have added this to his warning to viewers: "Before viewing Sen DeMint, we advise you and your family to wear haz-mat suits, and send the youngest children to a safe location in the cellar. Place a cover over your parrot's cage, and have your potassium iodide pills ready to use. This is not a drill. This is a genuine conservative about to appear on your television screen. You have been warned."

Mr. Scheiffer, would you like to buy a clue?
Did he have to change his Depends after saying DeMint's name?

Would not be surprised if Schieffer, the Dean of Dementia, pre-medicated before having to do the piece. 10 mg of Valium along with a 40 mg Oxycontin just to brace himself to say the words "Senator DeMint". Probably had the defib and a full cardiac tray ready too.
"Why thank you, Bob...."

I am glad you guys at MRC are there to catch this stuff, because I would never be able to stand watching Bob Schieffer (America's stupidest newsperson) long enough to hear him say anything. In fact, I am not sure my TV even gets CBS anymore, I know it quit getting MSNBC years ago (after a few moments of editing the settings in the receiver.) (I had the Satellite installer turn off CNN while he was setting up the receiver initially)
