NBC Picks on Supposed Republican Stumbles Before Showing Obama Soothing a Baby

On Tuesday night, NBC decided to highlight a series of stumbles by Republican presidential candidates, none of them all that significant (Romney having $100 bills in his wallet and Perry referring to Twitter as “tweeter”), before later in the newscast showing White House-produced video of a baby which stopped crying when handed to President Obama. “The White House would probably love for us to believe this next piece of videotape is evidence of special healing powers,” Williams announced, feeling obligated to make clear he realized “it isn't, but it is amusing.”

Looking at the announcement by Jon Huntsman, Andrea Mitchell cited his “faulty sound system,” how the press pass misspelled Huntsman’s first name and how “the press corps was first directed to a plane bound for Saudi Arabia instead of New Hampshire,” but “even there geography was a problem.” After a clip of Huntsman saying “we’ve just come this morning from New York where we announced in front of the Statue of Liberty,” Mitchell pounced, complete with a big map on screen: “Except he wasn’t in New York, it was New Jersey.”

Mitchell proceeded to bring up what she described as “an iconic moment as occurs on these campaigns” when “Mitt Romney in Colorado when at Mexican restaurant trying to trade a dollar bill with a young boy, all he could find in his wallet at first were $100 bills.” The horror.

Williams chimed in, recalling “these little moments from the campaign, seemingly inconsequential can sometimes be indelible or when they're President, both Bushes had theirs – the supermarket scanner and George W. Bush saying ‘the Googles’ about the Internet era. I understand there's yet another from the campaign trail?”

Mitchell confirmed on the Tuesday, June 21 NBC Nightly News: “There is yet another. Not yet a candidate, but Rick Perry, very likely to get in, the Governor of Texas, today trying to show that he is down with social media.”

NBC then played a clip from a Web video of Perry: “Until then, if you've had enough, take out your phone and text ‘Fed Up’ to 95613. And you can always follow me on tweeter ‘@GovernorPerry.’ Thanks for this award. God bless you.”

Mitchell mocked: “You can always find him on tweeter.”

O-bumbles

Submitted by JayVee on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 10:21am.

Hey Andrea, don't forget that guy who campaigned in "all 57" states, and thinks a Corpsman is a "corpse-man." How could such a bumbler hope to be elected --- oh, never mind.

They are relentless. It is

Submitted by buddyc on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 10:29am.

They are relentless. It is always something negative. Never anything positive. The same tactic I have observed since the late 80s.

But so far it is NOT working. People see Huntsman, Pawlenty, Bachman, Romney and the others and knows that they are very well qualified bright and successful people. They also compare their experience and accomplishment with that of Obama and Joe Biden.

Andreaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Mitchell has 0 credibility. No one would hire her but nbc.

Where was Huntsman standing when he made the . . .

Submitted by Galvanic on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 10:31am.

. . . announcement? If he was on Liberty Island, he was in New York. If he was elsewhere to fit the Statue in the background of the camera shot, he may have been in NJ.

I believe Liberty Island is

Submitted by Scuba Dude on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 7:12pm.

I believe Liberty Island is part of New Jersey. There was a dispute a few years ago over what State the Statue of Liberty was in.

None the less it is ridiculous for that Mitchell to make a big deal of it. Then again she is a libturd and the rose colored glasses come off whenever a Republican is concerned, even a RINO like Huntsman.

Edit: I revise my statement. According to the Statue of Liberty National Monument website "The Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island, federal property administered by the National Park Service, located within the territorial jurisdiction of the State of New York. A pact between New York and New Jersey, ratified by Congress in 1834, declared this issue."

It appears that the islands are considered New York territory despite being located within the New Jersey State boundaries.

I believe it is the ownership of Ellis Island that's in dispute

Submitted by Galvanic on Thu, 06/23/2011 - 8:15am.

Ellis Island was litterally expanded to accommodate more buildings, and I think New Jersey claims that due to that expansion, part of Ellis is actually in NJ. I don't know how or if that's been resolved.

Oh my, what's next?

Submitted by Dutch Man on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 10:48am.

$100 bills in a millionaire's wallet....A national landmark which is always associated with NYC...And a mispronunciation which could easily be attributed to a Texan's accent.
These blunders are obviously a sign that none of these men are capable of running for elective office. And on the off chance they do run and are elected, these gaffes prove they would be ineffectual at governing.
My only hope is that the remaining GOP candidates don't reference the 57 states, the corpse man, or introduce a man in a wheelchair to a crowd of people at a campaign event and ask the man to stand to recieve his round of applause.

I guess she forgot about this one

"And during his (Medvedev) visit to Silicon Valley this week, he visited the headquarters of Twitters, where he opened his own account. I have one as well, so we may be able to finally throw away those 'red phones' that have been sitting around for so long."

Maybe Obama and Perry can have a virtual debate on Tweeter and Twitters.

And why is anyone working on a purported "news" show still talking about the scanner story that the PRESS screwed up?

So, explain why Obama needs

Submitted by gopsteve on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 11:15am.

So, explain why Obama needs to raise a billion dollars when he's got so many networks promoting him while they're pummeling his opponents...

Why does he even bother to pay for campaign ads when he can get them for free?

Sucessfull blunders?

Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 11:26am.

It's ironic that the MSM mentions those supposed "blunders" by the Bush's and, yet, doesn't mention that fact that both men became President despite those highly televised "blunders." If THAT'S what you describe as an "iconic moment," then Romney, nor Huntsman, has nothing to worry about.

New Yorkers still believe

Submitted by eaglewingz08 on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 1:28pm.

New Yorkers still believe that Liberty State Park since the 1880s was part of New York, which was the sole state (exclusive of the fed gov't) that paid for its upkeep. If it weren't for an aberrational Supreme Court decision awarding this island to New Jersey Huntsmann would be correct. But substantively Huntsmann is still correct, the Statue of Liberty and its island will always be viewed as part of New York and not New Jersey.

New Jersey part

Submitted by Conservative in... on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 4:32pm.

a photo of his announcement has the statue in the far background, so he was probably in NJ for the press conference. But, what airport did he fly out of Andrea? Can you prove that he never crossed the border to refute the comment "I just came from New York?"
