Unlike ABC and CBS, NBC’s Williams Spikes Weinergate Yet Has Time for Christie’s Helicopter ‘PR Problem’

ABC’s World News and the CBS Evening News on Wednesday night both allocated full stories to Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner and his evolving non-denial denials over the lewd photo sent from his Twitter account, but not the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.

Williams instead made the news judgment to skip Weiner and highlight the “PR problem” Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie faces for taking a state police helicopter to his son’s high school baseball game – and later found 25 more seconds to note the retirement of NBA star Shaquille O'Neal.

Williams’ decision to ignore Weiner came despite the fact NBC’s Luke Russert conducted an interview with Weiner which aired in the afternoon on MSNBC. (NB: “Luke Russert Impales Weiner with His Own Words.”)

After deciding to give air time to advance Democratic efforts to tar Christie, Williams at least included a counter-point:

And while he is still the guy a lot of Republicans want to run for the White House, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has a PR problem – there it is [photo of Christie by a NJ state police helicopter] using one of the state's new helicopters to fly him to his son's baseball game. The head of the state police pointed out, in a statement today, he is the Governor 24/7. The office has to go with him wherever life and his travel lead him.

Summarizing Wednesday morning interest: “ABC, NBC Spotlight Growing Weiner Photo Scandal; CBS Punts.”

How the ABC and CBS anchors introduced their Wednesday night, June 1, Weiner stories:

Diane Sawyer, on ABC’s World News:

A political controversy has been all the talk in Washington today. Congressman Anthony Weiner had his name on a photo sent everywhere on Twitter. And our Jon Karl caught up with the Congressman to ask him about the strange story that keeps getting stranger.

Harry Smith, on the CBS Evening News:

It started out with a photograph on a Congressman's Twitter account, and now the story has gone absolutely viral on media of every kind. Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner of New York denied today that he sent a lewd photograph to a 21-year-old college student in Seattle. Congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes has the story.

Anybody Surprised

Submitted by grammajane on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 8:01pm.

Didn't obama mention that he woke up with Williams at one of his numerous tv appearences trying to be funny? Williams and his "so-called" news isn't worth anybody's time. Although, he reported for a week straight about Mark Foley but, guess he figures, Weiner got hacked so why bother. PBS had a long story about NPR being hacked but, they too, didn't mention Weiner.

Weinergate is well, growing

Submitted by Van Halen on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 8:30pm.

Weinergate is well, growing longer!

Pornstars
Strippers
High school girls
Pictures of private parts
Girls tweeting that the Weiner is their 'boyfriend'
200 followers on Weiner's Twitter account, a disproportionate number of them are attractive young women, many of them comely, long haired brunettes
The Weiner's PR guy lies about the timeline of what happened
The Weiner erases all evidence when hacking the account of a Congressman would certainly be investigated as a Federal crime
The Weiner won't admit as to whether he sent the lewd photo or not
So, if this isn't HIS weiner then why is there a photo of ANOTHER man's weiner that can be linked back to the Weiner?
Leftwing media sites go into damage-control mode by ignoring story when you know if this were Todd Palin...

Even Chris Matthews had two Liberal tools on his show trying to defend the Weiner and he wasn't buying it. Drudge has the story. LAT has the story. WaPo has the story. CNN has the story. The Weiner may be seeing the underside of a bus real soon.

Limos

Submitted by Radical1979 on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 8:47pm.

Why do I think ABC and CBS didn't have time to cover the spike in spending for Limo's under Obama.

→ No story there

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 9:21pm.

ABC and NBC were too busy reporting on a RUMOR concerning a decorated retired Navy officer (And Senator) with one of his campaign workers.

How could we expect them to pay attention to a DIRECT ALLEGATION from a participant in a drug & gay sex liasson with Barack Obama.

This just in - apparently

Submitted by jdhawk on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 10:54pm.

This just in - apparently forensics has been called in. In regards to whose weiner it is, their conclusion is that if it leans far left then it's a prick.

client # 9 has been asked for his "professional" opinion.

Meanwhile, some are calling for the "weiner" to be sent to the clintoon library and massage pallor.

In regard to Governor Christie's "problem," we need not say anything about duhbama taking his wife on a "date" to NY on Air Force 1 early in his presidency at taxpayer's expense. Or muchelle booking an entire hotel for fifty of her closest friends for a couple of weeks of vacation all on the public's dime. Who'd you think is paying for the most golfingest president in history paying for the back and forth to the most exclusive links in the country, the green fees, etc? No, let's no say anything about the above . . . .

A prominent governor flew in

Submitted by forest on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 11:24pm.

A prominent governor flew in a helicopter, and a married Congressman took a photo of his joint and sent it to a college undergrad. It's so difficult to figure out which one is a story - I better call a journalist and ask which one I need to know about.

I had my doubts about Christie when I heard he wouldn't

Submitted by no tingly legs on Thu, 06/02/2011 - 11:25am.

join the lawsuit filed by 26 (?) other states against ObamaCare and also his support for New Jersey's draconian gun control laws. So the helicopter business just adds to my doubts about him. That thing costs $2,500 per hour to operate. Is Christie expecting an invasion by the New York or Pennsylvania National Guard at any moment that his presence in Trenton must be expedited at all costs? Of course, I NEVER had doubts about Weiner.......I never for one moment doubted he was a flaming, gaping you-know-what. First we had Barney's frank. Now we have Weiner's weiner. Not to mention BJ Clinton's expertise in the Oral Orifice. But for Dems, those are all resume builders.

Don't pick on Brian W.

Submitted by Herbster on Thu, 06/02/2011 - 12:01pm.

Don't pick on that pompous ass, Brian Williams for ignoring Weinergate......he had to use that time to continue bowing to obambi. I understand thet Williams now has a traveling chiropractor with him at all times to straighten his back and de-brown his nose.

Anthony Weiner, Anthony Weiner, how does your garden grow?

With mustard and relish - I NEVER embellish,

If it's big, it's MINE, don't you know?

Williams is just another liberal tool

Submitted by NJRightWinger12 on Thu, 06/02/2011 - 1:37pm.

Apparently hes a huge tool, and has a major crush on O'Bozo. He couldnt wait to rip into Gov Christie. Hey, in NJ, how the HELL else are you suppoed to travel around the state-the damn roads are too clogged up, and the lib environazis wont let us expand them or build more freeways!

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. BEN FRANKLIN
