ABC’s Sawyer Publicizes Left-Wing Effort to Tar U.S. and Advocate for Another Entitlement

Human Rights Watch released a hardly comprehensive report, one “based on interviews with 64 parents across the country,” which complained: “Just three countries definitively offer no legal guarantee of paid maternity leave: Papua New Guinea, Swaziland—and the United States.” Picking up on that, Diane Sawyer announced on Wednesday’s World News:

And now, family leave. A new report from Human Rights Watch found 178 nations guarantee paid leave for new mothers and many new fathers -- as much as 16 months in Sweden. So where does America fall? At the bottom of the list with Swaziland and New Guinea.

ABC accompanied its publicity for the report, “Failing its Families: Lack of Paid Leave and Work-Family Supports in the US,” with a graphic despairing:

PAID FAMILY LEAVE
U.S. at bottom of the list

So Moms are the latest

Submitted by Chance_85202 on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 12:37am.

So Moms are the latest protected minority. 16 months of paid leave. Where is the benefit package for single women or couples without children.  Once the nanny state starts to guarantee this benefit, employers will stop hiring women. Your employment application will ask if your biological clock has expired. New hire drug screening will include a pregnancy test.

Where America Falls?

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 12:52am.

"So where does America fall?"

Andrea, let me count the ways.  Nope, I think it's enough that you posit such a prescient question and don't even realize how deep it is.

We "fall" on the steps of the institution that demands we reach out beggingly to its apron strings.

Let's join the dead lemmings at the bottom of the cliff.

Submitted by Red Jeep on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 8:59am.

Let's conform. Why be different?

Let's out do the rest of the world and pay women to stay home from 18 to 39 and be pregnant. The main reason why they work now is that taxes are so high that rare is the family that can live on one income, so don't force them to work. Give them 20 years to breed.

Only 16 months? Why not 16

Submitted by jdhawk on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 2:29am.

Only 16 months? Why not 16 years? No, make it a full 26 years. Isn't that the latest period of time that junior may stay under the wing of mommy and daddy? Sure, your employer won't mind. Heck, in 18 years, you can just slip into retirement . . .Don't bother returning for work ever, we'll just send you the retirement check at 100% of salary plus full medical. Not enough? Free car, free vacations, . . . Not enough? . . . . Those neanderthals in Switzerland will be tried at the World Court for crimes against humanity . . . Meanwhile, the real issue is that the tax burden today is more than twice what is was for the last generation. This has forced a married couple to both work. Gone are the days, when mommy could stay home and raise the children. Not because the feminazis say that they shouldn't, but because it is impossible to make ends meet when total taxation is exceeding 50% of even the average income of Americans. With "hot ideas" like that from the ridiculous rights watch and oh . . . about 14 trillion in debt at the national level with nearly 2 trillion of that debt racking up in this year alone, we will never be able to dig our way out of the debt spiral that we find ourselves in.

Great post!

Submitted by MaximusBraveheart on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 11:52am.

Agree they want all the slaves in the government plantation workforce.  Now it takes two since they now take about 1/2 the money in combined taxes.  Then they get to educate all the future workers in the government schools that teach their dogma and tell them to shut up and sit down when it comes to religion or morals.  We wouldn't want any of that "harmful" stuff!  Just do what you want... and pay your taxes to the all providing god of government.

REALLY disgusting how this dependence has corrupted our Nation's thinking and actions!  The war on poverty has CREATED an immoral nation with way more crime and ghettos!  Government is NOT the solution!

Hey Ms Sawyer,

Please don't insult the fine folks in PNG!   They are some of the most hard working people I have ever met.  At least they take care of their young and don't abort them for the sake of convenience!

goodby Hans hello Abdul

Submitted by MidAmerica on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 7:14am.

Many of the European countries use paid maternity as a bribe to get women to have babies instead of aborting them because the birth rate is below replacement level for ethnic and cultural Europeans who are dissappearing and being replaced by immigrants.

The latest

Submitted by Unsane on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 7:47am.

I'd agree but paid maternity has been going on for a LONG time in Europe.  The actual latest trend is that in some countries it has been proposed that women be paid, straight-up, for each child they have.  They need the taxpayers!

Limits in EU?

Submitted by MaximusBraveheart on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 11:49am.

It seems the Muslim women in the EU would get the most benefit from such a policy!  If their are limits as to when you can get pregnant next time, they may have trouble NOT getting pregnant for that long!

The ones I have talked to, via a volunteer program, are forced to have babies constantly!  To my surprise, they actual state their unhappiness with constantly having to take care of so many kids and the fathers don't help at all.  I do not think they are allowed to take birth control nor turn down having sex with their husband.  They are pretty much property per their laws.

And Islam by definition means SUBMIT.  Yes, when we are all dead or Muslim, then there will be World Peace.  Yes so therefore by the MSM standards, it is a religion of Peace *.  They don't put the astrix there however!

So theoretically  a woman can

Submitted by motherbelt on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 8:06am.

So theoretically  a woman can work for 8 months of her pregnancy, go on maternity leave for 16, go back to work pregnant, work for another 8 months, go on maternity leave for another 16, do the same....

This is spacing of 2 1/2 years between children. Not exactly on top of each other; I've heard it said that 3 years is the ideal spacing....

That would be six years, during which she only worked two.....not a bad deal.

Paid Maternity Leave in Libya

"Why don't we get paid the same as men?"

Submitted by johnsonl on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 10:10am.

Because men don't take 16 months off to give birth. Make a decision, ladies. Career or family. Men do it all the time.

I saw that!

Submitted by CobraMan on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 2:32pm.

I saw that last night and I couldn't help laughing.  Most of the countries on that list are so poor that they can't even employ just a small percentage of their population! I wonder how many of those poor African countries, for example, offer paid maternity leave to their pregnant "refugees?"  How many Palestinian women are receiving paid maternity leave?  How many North Koran women?  How many Saudi women, Afghan woman, ect, ect, ect? Let's put it into perspective, people. More American women receive paid maternity leave than most other countries combined!

The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States. The US Constitution

Unless you're a fetus. The US Supreme Court
