Nina Totenberg: ‘I Was At – Forgive the Expression – a Christmas Party...’
By Brent Baker | December 20, 2010 | 08:36
“I was at – forgive the expression – a Christmas party,” NPR reporter Nina Totenberg interjected on Inside Washington in the weekend’s oddest cautionary separation from a common description for a common event, seemingly embarrassed to invoke any religious terminology for Christmas. She didn’t say what she’d prefer for parties this time of the year to be named. “Winter solstice party”? Just plain old “holiday party”? Or a “seasonal gathering”?
Totenberg’s bashfulness came as she explained how the failure of Congress to pass an annual budget has left federal workers in limbo:
Well, these agencies, including the Defense Department, don't know how much money they've got and for what. And I was at – forgive the expression – a Christmas party at the Department of Justice and people actually were really worried about this.
So, what did Totenberg mean by “forgive the expression”? Watch and judge for yourself. (Audio: MP3 clip)
Totenberg’s comment in full, which matches the video clip:
I want to say one thing about the budget that didn’t get passed, the omnibus bill. You know, we talk a lot about – we just passed this huge tax cut in part because business said, you know, we have to plan, we have to know what kind of tax cuts we have. Well, these agencies, including the Defense Department, don't know how much money they've got and for what. And I was at – forgive the expression – a Christmas party at the Department of Justice and people actually were really worried about this. These are law enforcement people don't know exactly what kind of money they can spend for what.
(Inside Washington is a weekly show produced by ABC’s Washington, DC affiliate, which airs it Sunday morning after it runs Friday night on DC’s PBS affiliate, WETA-TV channel 26, and Saturday on local cable’s TBD TV.)

Africans don't celebrate Kwaanza. It's a "holiday" created in 1969 by Black Panthers and Black power subscribers to further alienate themselves from American culture and guaranteeing failing in every way in this country because of their hatred for it. Refusing to integrate and expecting 87% of the population to cave into their demands(whatever that may entail) is the reason why every single immigrant group that's come to this country has succeeded leaving the Black population at the bottom of the sociological barrel. I find it hysterical during news stories on TV where you have all sorts of immigrants speaking English while interviewed and the Black guy that's born and bred here is the only one they need to use subtitles for. This will continue until they leave the Democrat plantation and start to believe in themselves.....And by the way, it's really NOT all Whiteys' fault.....

I have friends in Kenya, and they laugh every time they hear about "Kwanzaa". They think it is the dumbest thing for African Americans to celebrate. Sure it means "first fruits" in Swahili, but it's no holiday. Most Kenyans celebrate Christmas anyway.
'First fruits' refers to the Founding Fathers of Fruitdom (FFF)

Jack, Christmas is not about holly, garlands, wreaths, and all those sparkly trinkets. It is about the birth of our Lord and His message (gift) to all of us who believe. I mean, Fox News could hardly put up a manger scene on their set, right? (see NPR reporter Nina Totenberg's comment on INSIDE WASHINGTON)... or here, let me just quote her. Actually, I watch Fox and Friends pretty regularly and inbetween commercial breaks they show the following bible passage in honor of Christmas:

That speaks volumes more about the spirit of Christmas than some fake garland. Can you imagine any other news channel actually using a quote from the bible?

It was more like she was embarrassed to say the word and trying not to be offensive about it, at least that's how the attitude appears. Not in the sense of "He who shall not be named" of Harry Potter, but almost like it's a dirty word. Taboo was the word I used earlier, but it could still work, otherwise use "verboten" or whatever.
That's what it looks like. And that angers me that Christmas would be considered as such.

Again, it just seemed to me from listening to the audio that had Totenberg really wanted to make an issue over the specific word "Christmas", there would have been an audible emphasis. There was none.

Submitted by Jer on Mon, 12/20/2010 - 2:17pm.
Denny...
I do not know what this evil woman had in mind. But consider this: Suppose Rush Limbaugh wanted to make a mocking comment about society bowing to the politically correct move toward diminishing references to "Christmas" and substituting terms such as Holiday Season, Winter Festival, or the like. Wouldn't you agree that he might say--with a hefty dose of Limbaugh sarcasm--"last night I was at a...please forgive the expression, ladies and gentlemen...(then pausing for effect and slowly pronouncing each syllable)...Christ - mas par-tee, etc., etc.
So who is to say Totenberg isn't doing likewise? Well, probably you and everyone else here--including me--who recognize that it is very believable that Limbaugh would mock political correctness, but not so likely that Nina Totenberg would similarly mock it.
But I'm still not sure of her intent in this case. If she wanted to fastidiously adhere to political correctness, it seems like the simplest and most logical approach would have been for her to just say "party" and leave it at that.
Jer

Any journalist who attends government parties deserves to have their credibility scrutinized. IF they really want to be taken seriously, they must shun participation in social events thrown by institutions they might cover.
But dear Nina has been a Beltway denizen for so long, she no longer understands the difference.

Maybe there will come a point where we can overwhelm liberals with so much political correctness that they'll be unable to say anything. If we can embarrass them into not using the word 'I' (because it's offensive to third world countries for some random cultural reasons), we'd probably destroy 75% of their ability to verbally communicate.
Great thought...

Forgive the expression, but here we have an example of a self delusional, elitest snob who thinks she is someone important, and thinks she writes significant commentary but is frantically following a vacuous mind stuck on stupid. What we do know about Totenbertg is that she is a college dropout, but she is obviously smarter than Bush because he only graduated from Yale, followed by a graduate degree from Harvard. She was also fired for plagarism, but her fellow elitest colleagues have defended her for this minor infraction in that it was determined to advance the progressive agenda. Ol' Nina "I am brilliant because I look in the mirror and, therefore, 'I am' " once wrote a piece entitled, "The Ten Dumbest Members of Congress," Good topic, and I am sure these stupid congressmen were 50-50 democrats and republicans as Nina gets into cat fights to defend her writings as absolutely objective and non biased. Ol' Nina was also right in the middle of the Clarence Thomas debacle, but that is another story for another time. Let's see here. Hey Nina, what were those comments you made about Senator Jesse Helms and General Boykin? This is what happens when you have words being tossed around in an empty head like clothes in a dryer. Open it up and no telling what will come out. But, please "forgive the expression" for telling the truth.

The President and First Lady hosted a little gathering Thursday night in the East Room to celebrate, excuse the expression, Hanukkah, according to a Dec. 3, 2010 CNN report.
"Michelle and I send warm wishes to all those celebrating, excuse the expression, Kwanzaa this holiday season. This 'P.C.'... CRAP!...
Submitted by Colt on Mon, 12/20/2010 - 6:17pm.
...Is really starting to chap my a$$. And, no amount of any Johnson & Johnson product is gonna soothe it.
I remember the humble beginnings of the P.C. movement.
I witnessed it's birth, saw it's first baby steps, teething, growth spurts, prepubescent stages, and then, watched it become what it is today.....A raging, hormonal teenager...with ADHD.
In fact, I've been thinking about all of this quite a bit lately. After witnessing two decades worth of 'corrections' and attempts to humiliate average, decent folks for crimes of 'non-compliance', I've come to some conclusions about the whole program.
P.C., from it's conception, was never about fairness, or shielding sensitive, defenseless types from rude behavior, and hurtful words. It's all about the Progressive Movement's desire to control...pretty much everything. Whats more, is that P.C. itself, is an excellent diagnostic tool for them to use as a gauge to check on how well they're playing the game of influencing (controlling) the dialog, and directing the thought processes of ordinary American citizens.
I've noticed another 'diagnostic tool' that has sprung up within the past decade. Pronounciation. Yes,...the pronounciation of words, or more specifically, the periodic changing of certain, daily used names, words, or...phrases ( a whole 'nuther can o' worms...) in the dialogue of any given subject.
Think about it. How many times did Al Quaeda ( aka, al quaida, al qua'ida...etc.) change over the years? (A) Several. In 2001, it was pronounced like Awl-KY-duh. After several revisions, it is currently morphed into AL-KAY-da. How about Pakistan? Ever since my childhood, (a long time ago) it's been PACK-ih-stan. Today, it's POCK-ee-STON. Preventative is now ...preventive. I believe that all of these subtle changes over the years are being used as another diagnoistic tool for the MSM to monitor their own messaging effectiveness.
Perhaps I'm just behind the beat with my newfound revelations. Maybe I'm just a bit slow on the uptake,...and everybody else who might be reading this has been onto their "strat ee gery" for years.
Call me a tad slow,... a few bricks shy,... say my brain runs on sailboat fuel,...or maybe even say that I'm trying to skip rope in a hammock,..if you will,... But, for the sake of all decency, please allow me a six-pack of "Gravitas " to wash it down, ...and I'll be just fine.

You know why liberals hate and fear Jesus? One of my seminary instructors told us why. He said non believers are ok with God because God is "out there" and invisible. This Jesus guy on the other hand is here and in your face. Jesus means accountability, and liberals hate and despise accountability, unless it's on the conservative side.

Since when is using the word "Christmas" something to ask forgiveness for?? Apparently this idiot thinks that "Christmas" is a word and a holiday to apologize for. Only a person like Ms. Totenberg and the rest of the leftist, liberal microbrains that she hangs around with think this way because, and this may come as a surprise to her and them, the vast majority of Americans most definitley DO NOT share her asinine view.
My God....Where do people like this come from, anyway??
