FNC’s Fox Newswatch Highlights Winner in MRC’s Online Voting for Worst Bias of 2010
FNC’s Fox Newswatch on Saturday highlighted a winner in the MRC’s online balloting, in which many NewsBusters readers took part (Friday NB post announcing who you picked for Quote of the Year), for the annual awards for the year’s worst reporting. Host Jon Scott announced:
The results are in. The Media Research Center conducted an online poll asking the public to vote on the worst biased reporting. First up, the winner of the Poison Teapot Award for Smearing the Anti-Obama Rabble, goes to PBS's Tavis Smiley for this:
Viewers then saw the clip from Tavis Smiley’s May 25 program on PBS:
Author Ayaan Hirsi Ali, talking about radical Muslims: “Somehow, the idea got into their minds that to kill other people is a great thing to do and that they would be rewarded in the hereafter.”
Host Tavis Smiley: “But Christians do that every single day in this country.”
Ali: “Do they blow people up every day?”
Smiley: “Yes. Oh, Christians, every day, people walk into post offices, they walk into schools, that’s what Columbine is — I could do this all day long....There are folk in the Tea Party, for example, every day who are being recently arrested for making threats against elected officials, for calling people ‘nigger’ as they walk into Capitol Hill, for spitting on people. That’s within the political — that’s within the body politic of this country.”
Back on the Fox News set, Scott cued up Cal Thomas: “Wonder why he won, Cal?”
Cal Thomas answered: “No, not at all. Can we go through the list, all Italians are members of the mafia, all African-Americans eat certain foods. The only people you can openly insuly anymore if you’re in the media are Christians, Roman Catholics and various brands.”
For all the winners and runners-up in the “public ballot” held online this past week.
On Monday, we’ll announce the winners of the Best Notable Quotables of 2010: The 23rd Annual Awards for the Year’s Worst Reporting, as selected by a panel of 46 expert judges, including talk radio hosts, magazine and editorial writers as well as syndicated columnists.

Another contest suggestion
Submitted by sherlock1 on Sat, 12/18/2010 - 10:54pm.
I propose another contest, to pick the winning MMIA (Meme Missing In Action).
My vote would be for the meme that when we strike at the terrorists, we only create more of them.
Back when GWB was CIC, it happened every damn time, as I recall - what an idiot he must have been. But now with Obama at the helm, finishing the Bush surges in Iraq and Afghanistan, with drones running wild in Pakistan no less, you never read about it happening!
Obama is clearly a military genius.
Or maybe "Talking Point of the Week"

You know, like "the Republicans are hostage takers".
This would be an easy one to keep track of, just keep a list of Mika's weekly babble. She's on "the list" and is always the first to parrot the talking points.

Tea Party-----spitting on people.......calling people the "N" word.....I understand Brietbart's 100 grand offer still hasn't been taken. The congressional folks making those accusations have backtracked. I guess Mr. Tavis didn't get the memo.
What's also amazing is that
Submitted by Thoreau on Sun, 12/19/2010 - 4:37am.
What's also amazing is that nobody in the Tea Party recorded themselves saying that, even for $100,000. You literally can't buy that kind of conviction. Pun intended.
365 With A Bullet

Mr. Smiley should channel his inner entrepreneur and create one of those desktop cube calendars with a daily Christian terror attack to inform us about. He did say they happen "every day." After he starts gathering his statistics, if he becomes discouraged when there don't seem to be quite enough Christian terror attacks to fill up his calendar, he might want to change his format and create a calendar of Muslim terror attacks. I bet he'd get to 365 pretty fast!

Certainly long enough to know that his langquage is not appreciated or to be tolerated here.
Kinda reminds me of the White Supremacist that showed up at a Tea Party event and was chased off. Mebbe Harry has yet to figure out that Conservatives are not racists.
I know for a fact that some liberals join Conservative sites strictly to make statements like this in an attempt to paint us as racists.
Not to say that there cannot be racist Conservatives...or can there be? I kinda believe that Conservative values preclude racism. Whatever...racists are not welcome here.
Racists are not welcome here.---

I know some of the bloggers keep a sharp eye on their own blog posts, but with the sheer volume of daily posts here, some of the uglier stuff is bound to get through. Can you imagine trying to mod all the comments here? Whoa!

Smiley: “Yes. Oh, Christians, every day, people walk into post offices, they walk into schools, that’s what Columbine is — I could do this all day long.
Funny how for someone who could "do this all day long" he could name only one specific incident. And were the two Columbine idiots ever identified as "Christians" or conservatives?
So yeah, go ahead Smiley. Keep telling those lies "all day long."

Oh no he di'int.
This lying, partisan, talking head jackoff named nothing. He looked like the complete leftist, desperate ideologue he is, with no shame or conscience -- who was more than willing to lie about anything and frame a narrative however he chooses to serve his agenda.
If you mean Columbine, those loser kids were a) sick, deluded teenage narcissists who wanted to feel totally powerful, and b) if anything, anarchists.

Didn't mean to imply he had named a specific actual incident, only that he could manage to cite -- by name (Columbine) -- one specific thing that had happened.
Of course Columbine falls completely outside of his premise, but for someone to say they could "go all day" and only manage to cite one actual incident, whether it applied or not (it didn't) pretty much destroys their own position.
Sorry for the confusion. In my defense I did ask if the Columbine boys were either Christian or conservative, a kind of implication that Columbine didn't fit Smiley's meme.
At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it! : -^ D
The two Columbine idiots,
Submitted by MikeB on Sun, 12/19/2010 - 3:39pm.
The two Columbine idiots, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, were in the Goth subculture. There is no claim in any of the literature I read about the Columbine incident where either one of the fools claimed to be either Christian or conservative. They each broke 20 or more firearms and explosives laws, both state and federal. They were both convicted felons before they ever acquired the firearms they used at the school.
Let's see, convicted felons, and dead ... I'll bet they are registered Democrat and voted for Obama. So much for Christian and conservative, eh, Smiley?
The Columbine idiots were ...
