CBS's Schieffer Accuses Limbaugh of Breaking White House's 'Truce' with FNC

Rush Limbaugh's tough criticisms of President Barack Obama on Fox News Sunday “broke” the White House's truce with Fox News, Bob Schieffer suggested during an interview with Obama's Senior Adviser, David Axelrod, on Face the Nation.

After playing a clip of Limbaugh dismissing as “a photo-op” Obama's trip to Dover Air Force Base to witness returning casualties from Afghanistan and quoting Limbaugh's characterizations of Obama as “narcissistic,” “immature, inexperienced” and “in over his head,” Schieffer, seemingly referring to Limbaugh's remarks -- or, at least the decision by Fox News to feature Limbaugh on its Sunday interview show -- forwarded:
Last week your man Robert Gibbs met with the folks at Fox News, declared a truce in this war you've been having with them. Was the truce broken this morning?
Axelrod insisted: “We're not at war with anyone. We're at war only with people who represent mistruths...”

Schieffer's exchanges about Limbaugh, with Axelrod, on the Sunday, November 1 Face the Nation:
BOB SCHIEFFER: Let me ask you this, Mr. Axelrod. Last week when casualties in Afghanistan hit a new high, President Obama went to Dover Air Force base to take part in a ceremony honoring the return of some of those who've been killed there. Well, this morning on Fox News Rush Limbaugh had this to say about that.

RUSH LIMBAUGH, ON FOX NEWS SUNDAY: It was a photo-op. It was a photo-op precisely because he's having big-time trouble on this whole Afghanistan dithering situation. He found one family that would allow photos to be taken. None of the others did. And of course when you have a sycophantic media following you around, able to promote and amplify whatever you want, then he can create the impression that he has all this great concern.

SCHIEFFER TO AXELROD: So what's your reaction to that?

DAVID AXELROD: My reaction is that I think that the President of the United States went to Dover to represent the American people and pay his respects to the families who had made so much of a sacrifice to those brave service people who made the ultimate sacrifice. It was the appropriate thing to do. And I think most Americans appreciate that.

SCHIEFFER: On this broadcast back in March the White House Chief-of-Staff said this about Rush Limbaugh. He said “he is the voice, the intellectual voice and the energy behind the Republican Party.” Do you believe that what he said today-- and we'll have some more quotes from him here -- represents what the Republican Party believes?

AXELROD: I don't know. That's for the Republican Party to decide. I think we've seen an interesting development over this weekend in a special election up in upstate New York in a congressional district. The Republican candidate withdrew because of the strong third-party movement behind a very right wing conservative. And certainly Mr. Limbaugh and others were behind that. And I think it sends a clear message to moderates within that party that there's no room at the inn for them and that's why you see Republican identification in polls at a historic low. So that may be where the energy is in the Republican Party, but it's certainly not a view on which you can build a majority party.

SCHIEFFER: One of the things he said today was that the President is “narcissistic,” “immature, inexperienced” and “in over his head.” Reaction?

AXELROD: Well, I think it's a surreal day when you're getting lectures on humility from Rush Limbaugh. And I'm not going to respond to that. The fact is that he is an entertainer. The President has to run the country. He's the commander in chief. He has huge responsibilities. I think he does them thoughtfully, he does them well and they're difficult problems. We walked into a difficult situation. I think he's handling it very, very well and most people believe that. So, we'll let Mr. Limbaugh fulminate, but I think the American people are well served and believe they're well served.

SCHIEFFER: I want to go to other things, but let me ask you one final question. Last week your man Robert Gibbs met with the folks at Fox News, declared a truce in this war you've been having with them. Was the truce broken this morning?

AXELROD: Look, I'm not – first of all, let me dispel something. We're not at war with anyone. We're at war only with people who represent mistruths as truth and that's true of any network whether it's Fox, CBS or any other network. When errors of fact are stated or when opinion is offered as fact, we will challenge that, and that will be our policy going forward and the American people deserve that. We have to do that for the sake of the administration. But we're not at war with anyone and certainly it's no surprise that Rush Limbaugh espouses the views that he espouses. He does it every day on radio. He's marketing the outrageous and he does very well with it. But as I said he's an entertainer. We've got bigger responsibilities and we're going to discharge those responsibilities.

Who are you at war with then??

Axelrod "We're at war only with people who represent mistruths as truth"  So, the White House is at war with itself??

Stay Free!!!

I think the White House

I think the White House meant to say "The Pravda".

Is Shieffer out of his Obama Loving Mind?

The Texas Democrat should know that Limbaugh doesn't work for Fox News.   How can he break a "truce"?

Schieffer is old enough to know real journalism

Too bad he doesn't practice it.  The last time I looked, Rush Limbaugh wasn't an employee of Fox or of News Corp.

Schieffer's brother, Tom Schieffer, is vying for the governorship of Texas as a Democrat.

If we start making a list of all the people, organizations, and corporations who are on the Obama "enemies list" we'd need several pages.  Remember using the Missouri Attorney General's office to threaten news organizations during the campaign?  Then, there's Joe the Plumber, Rush, Fox, Humana, Edmunds.com, and on and on.  And, note the language from a lib about "punishing" Joe Lieberman by closing the Groton sub base if he doesn't vote for the healthcare bill.

These are scary people- people who talk about being "at war" with the media, people who talk about "punishing" legislators who disagree with them, people who want to limit free speech......

The IQ of the liberal news

The IQ of the liberal news anchor anymore seems to be about 70 and boy, does it show.

"DumbAssity of Dope"

Kg, I believe you to be

Kg, I believe you to be overly optimistic in your estimate of liberal news readers' IQ ... unless, of course, you were using a collective IQ.

At war with who?

Even the mention of the White House being "at war" with a news organization should send chills through every American bones.

Truce? What truce is Scheifer conned up?

Rush is right. These people are dangerous.

good point

That's a good point.  Can we rephrase it as... "at war with free speech"?  That's what's at stake.

He has already failed... his country.

PM... You've got me

PM...

You've got me laughing....first thing that came to mind after reading your post were Joe Wilson's words..."YOU LIE!"

Those words apply to all involved with this BS spin the enemy within are attempting to control us all with here...which isn't going to work...we aren't Venezuela...yet.

'Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea'~Breitbart

There was a 'truce'??

Waitaminnut - there was a 'truce' between Obama's thugs and FOX news?  This is the first I've ever heard of it.  Obama has been sending out his minions every day to threaten, attack, besmirch and insult FOX news.  They've  used every underhanded mobster trick that they've learned from Obama to try and bully and blackmail FOX news, telling them to 'shut up and go away'.

You can't 'break' a truce when there was never one to start with, no?

Let's see Obama and his thugs fall on their hands and knees and beg FOX news' forgiveness first for all their underhanded trickery and cheap bullying.  Let's see them beg the forgiveness of the American people for their traitorous denial of 1st Amendment rights and trying to destroy freedom of the press.

Then they can talk about how they're ready for a 'truce'....

"Waitaminnut - there was a

"Waitaminnut - there was a 'truce' between Obama's thugs and FOX news?"

Supposedly there is/was. And that's not the only meeting either. There was a meeting between Axelrod and Ailes a month or so ago too that people may have forgotten.

If the truce part is true, what the hell was FOX thinking?

Truce

They were thinking that a guest was giving his opinion. That has nothing to do with any truce unless Moabama's tuce prevents people that Fox interviews to refrain from speaking the truth

Sorry, my post was

Sorry, my post was unclear.....I meant what the hell was FOX thinking when they agreed to a truce in the first place, assuming they did, not what the hell were they thinking for having Rush on.

"Axelrod insisted: “We're

"Axelrod insisted: “We're not at war with anyone. We're at war only with people who represent mistruths..."

Gotta love the doublespeak:"No, we're not at war with anyone, except for those we're at war with."

Which in my mind......

...means themselves.....

"A house divided cannot stand."

Remember in November 2010

osama bin obama mm mm mmmm lied the economy died

Axelrod insisted: “We're  at war with anyone who is against failure barracks hussein osamabinobama  mm mm mmmm and we hate America and Americans”

surreal

I have noticed some media using people such as Rush to hide behind when asking questions re or to this administration

and find that as disturbing as Mr Axle Rods tax payer funded job as choreographer/ propaganda mouth piece /defender and warrior of the truth lol

And I think it sends a

And I think it sends a clear message to moderates within that party
that there's no room at the inn for them

The big tent theory, I say the Republicans have a big tent and accept a wide range of peoples in that tent.  But like most organizations where the people that comprise it .. control it, they want people in leadership positions that they agree with.

This is true in most organizations that are not mandatory to join such as a church membership.  In the Southern Baptist Conference, a convention of churches that elected to join together, we had a problem with some of the leadership abandoning our theological principles and doctrines.  The membership voted new leadership in and furthermore we cleaned up our seminaries we support so we can control the quality of education for our new pastors.

So we are a big tent, we want all people to come to our church.  Membership is restricted to believers, those who publicly commit themselves to Jesus Christ; but we reserve the right to place into leadership those we want.  So the big tent.

but we want the ones controlling the tent

I'd be willing to bet that

I'd be willing to bet that Fox New Sunday ate the lunch of the other Sunday shows. So this idiot is trying to soften the blow when it comes tomorrow.

A "war" declared against a

A "war" declared against a major news network by the White House? A "truce" between them?  Bob Schieffer and the rest of his liberal media pack can always be counted on to validate some bizarre political practice by Democrats as being entirely normal and part of the usual political landscape. It's not so much what this White House does that concerns me as the willngness of the media to back them up and make it sound like the "normal" give and take.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Bob Schieffer... Who would have believed it!

All the big names I used to rely on for a somewhat "objective"  point of view have all fallen off the wagon! Not that I ever had any illusions these big news figure/names are mostly left leaning; but there was some level of respect that is now all but gone!  So I was sorry to add Bob S. to my now long list of news reporters/journalists/pundits/obamaloving/ slubburing for whom I have lost all respect!   So much for the watchdog... somehow they have forgotten journalism is supposed to hold truth to power, not be their cheerleaders!

The jackasses are making it impossible for us reasonable folks to even torture ourselves by watching their shows!

Posting here is my personal therapy, but I sure wish these clowns would read some of the postings and take to heart....

"Truce" huh?  Yeah,

"Truce" huh?  Yeah, right.

The only person that can get the Libtard world in a tizzy more than Rush is Sarah Palin.  God help them if she makes the rounds one of these days.

When I was in my teens I used to have to clean stalls and barns.I bet I didnt shovel as much .... as Axelrod throws out there.I really would like to stick his face into pile.

many observations of this little snippet:

1. Don't these other networks get it that when you keep mentioning  another network on your own air, it encourages people to check out your competitor? I mean, it's like saying, "over there is where the real interesting stuff is happening" go check it out.

2. Axelrod's reply to Limbaugh's disparaging (and accurate) remarks about the 'photo op', make it clear to me that he had specific marching orders not to bash Fox news today. Oh, how he wanted to, I bet.

3. "SCHIEFFER: One of the things he said today was that the President is “narcissistic,” “immature, inexperienced” and “in over his head.” Reaction?"....

Omg, you gotta love this. What Arod wanted to say:

"just let me get my hands on that S.O.B. you wanna play it Chicago Style? It's on, Mother F***er !

What he said: "Well, I think it's a surreal day when you're getting lectures on humility from Rush Limbaugh....he fact is that he is an entertainer". THAT'S ALL YOU GOT??? WHO PUT A GAG ORDER ON YOU HEHEHEHEHE

I agree...

...Axelrod was muzzled , big time.

Robot Bartender

Guy goes into a bar, there’s a robot bartender. The robot says, "What will you have?" The guy says, "Martini."

The robot brings back the best martini ever and says to the man, "What’s your IQ?" The guy says, "168". The robot then proceeds to talk about physics, space exploration and medical technology. The guy leaves, but he is curious, so he goes back into the bar.

The robot bartender says, "What will you have?" The guy says, "Martini". Again, the robot makes a great martini, gives it to the man and says, "What’s your IQ?" The guy says, "100." The robot then starts to talk about Nascar, Budweiser and John Deere tractors. The guy leaves, but finds it very interesting, so he thinks he will try it one more time.

He goes back into the bar. The robot says, "What will you have?" The guy says, "Martini", and the robot brings him another great martini. The robot then says, "What’s your IQ?" The guy says, "Uh, about 50." The robot leans in real close and says,

"So, are you people still happy you voted for Obama?"

Change you can believe....

Sadly, now it seems that Schieffer and his peers primary objective is to be a tool of the state, rather than its loudest critic.

Bob

I agree with you that Schieffer's comments leave no question as to his political allegiance.  I am disappointed in him and he should be ashamed of himself - for blatantly giving up his journalistic integrity.

He - and the other reporters who have been around for years - should be leading the charge for facts about Obama's destruction of America.  Instead, he is blocking those who are tying to do their job while he also refuses to do his.

Bob is ready for retirement:  he can no longer be trusted to report the news but make the news based upon his opinions. Shame on him.

"...We walked into a difficult situation...

My heavens, Mr. Axelrod, WHEN are you ever going to take responsibility for the business decisions coming out of the White House???????  This little jab at the previous administration only proves that they are still incapable of accepting responsibility for THEIR decisions!!!!!!  Obama made the Afghanistan war HIS priority soon after taking office...and has made one gigantic mess out of it!  STOP BLAMING BUSH...will we be hearing this sorry excuse for the next three years?????????

I agree with Rush - the visit to Andrews was nothing more than a photo-op, otherwise he would have gone without photographers (as his predecessor did on numerous occasions!!!!!)  It reminds me of his attempt to visit the wounded in Germany - WITH photographers - that was not allowed.  At all times it is ONLY ABOUT OBAMA!

Re: Rush appearing with Chris Wallace, it is time for the White House to grow up (as well as the mainstream media) and stop trying to blame the previous administration, Fox, Rush or Tea Party attendees or or or or for the OBVIOUS failure of CURRENT administration programs!  It's as if 6th graders are in charge - and Americans are getting SICK & TIRED of the inept leadership and corrupt inner circle of advisors!

EVERY conservative voter in New York, New Jersey or Virginia (or any other state holding elections) should contact fellow conservatives to offer rides to the polls on Tuesday...we MUST send Washington (CONGRESS & the WHITE HOUSE) a message - even though it will undoubtedly be ignored as all other efforts to communicate our dissatisfaction have been.

This comment comes from a proud Tea Party attendee, otherwise designated by Homeland Security as a Domestic Right Wing Terrorist!  And now by our president as a 'swiftboater' - both titles I'll wear proudly!     It is no dishonor to be in a minority in the cause of liberty and virtue ~ Sam Adams

What truce?

I see no sign of a truce. It there was a truce, the Bamster would have been on Fox News this Sunday.

This started with a blacklist of Fox News, and it can only end with the Bamster ending the blacklist.

Hey Axlemoron

I believe Rush over any of the toadying lies of you or your boss.

"Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you.  Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge."

Timothy 6:20

The job of the free press has always been to expose the lies

and obfuscation of those we place in positions of power in order to prevent them from abusing that power.

This job often entails revealing the truth behind the lies of those who seek to impose their particular agenda upon the people of this Republic.

At present the vast majority of the so called journalists in this nation have chosen to side with those that seek to impose upon us, at first, a soft tyranny.

These morons have been convinced by their liberal professors and colleagues that the average citizen is too ignorant of his'her surroundings to make sound judgments concerning our futures.  Decisions must be made for us to keep us from hurting ourselves..and they are all too happy to aid those that would make those decisions for us.  Like controlling CO2, and getting us to eat properly, quit smoking, drinking, driving fast... the list will never end until all our freedoms do.

Someone said that Fox was a cancer on this nation.  If so let it spread!  Let it grow fast and furious as only Truth can! Let us spread that awful disease that all tyrannical rulers fear as the Truth can still keep us free...

Chavez went for the press first and continues his war on those that still resist him.  They are few and far between.  Most capitulated or ceased to be.

Here...?  Our free press surrendered long ago to the liberal cause, as they are liberals themselves no real surrender was involved.  The only thing they surrendered was their ethics and their moral obligations to the future of this Republic.

Obama is a liar and Truth is

killing his Marxist agenda.

Back at you Axelrod.
