Late Wednesday afternoon, MSNBC's David Shuster and Chris Matthews made clear their agreement with the message of a new ad from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) which ridicules former Vice President Dick Cheney's past judgments and thus proclaims him “WRONG” on the value of enhanced interrogation techniques, with Shuster declaring “he deserves” the “brutal ad” which makes, Matthews decided, an “obvious” and “undeniable” point.
Giving free publicity to the TV ad supposedly scheduled to begin airing Thursday on cable channels, just before 5 PM EDT MSNBC played part of the ad and Hardball viewers were treated to the entire 30 seconds about a half hour later. With “WRONG” on screen, the ad features a clip of Cheney asserting what was conventional wisdom at the time: “There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction.” Then, with “HE'S STILL WRONG” on screen, viewers hear Cheney maintain “the enhanced interrogation techniques were absolutely essential.” The ad ends with:
DICK CHENEY
WRONG THEN
WRONG NOW
Following the ad clip, Shuster chirped: “You know, it's a brutal ad on Dick Cheney, so, ah, but he deserves it I suppose.” Matthews set up the ad: “Dick Cheney gets called to account.” Afterward, he insisted: “Well that's pretty obvious, anyway, and rather undeniable.”
The DNC site doesn't seem to have video of the ad, but the Huffington Post has the video via YouTube.

Has ABC Rejected This Ad Too?
September 2, 2009 - 23:15 ET by Intellectual HonestyIt seems the real question is whether ABC's (and CBS to an extent) "no partisan ad" rule that effectively banned the anti-Obamacare ad from a couple weeks ago (nothing fancy just a neurosurgeon speaking the truth in one shot) has resulted in this ad being rejected too. Or is it just third party ads and not official party ads. Am I misunderstanding their position?

His seizing of Afghanistan and the overthrowing of Hussein lead to the much-needed death of thousands of really bad, Islam-slobbering, hate-everything-about-Western-culture (YOUR CULTURE!) suicidal/brainwashed/backwards-thinking zombies.
The man, Bush, was *all about* preserving freedom for people everywhere, and damn well being sure that this country remained the beacon and guiding light for real freedom and liberty. His speeches that he gave annually, in this area at least, were moving and REAL. A very good man. And a good president. Enough. I have to hear this crap constantly, and you all sound like out-of-touch and not-rooted-in-reality talking-pointers.
The Middle East had been a sh*t hole for decades and no past president really lifted a finger -- and if anything, appeased and coddled. One day changed it all. September 3, 2009 - 01:58 ET by JerWell, since he has explained that he was joking [but not apologized], I won't take the issue any higher. But I still find it appalling that JWF would post that he had invaded my computer via a trojan horse--especially after I had received a trojan horse alert two nights ago which I have yet been able to isolate. And on top of that add the ridiculous slur "pornboy".
I guess we just think differently, but I find the behavior highly offensive and inexcusable. I guarantee if a lib had posted that to a conservative here, he would be outta here in the blink of an eye.

For the record...

Further, all my humor is stolen from Friends, Scrubs and Alex Cox movies. All my pron humor stems from this line from Dr. Cox
I am fairly sure that if they took porn off the internet, there would only be one website left and it would be called Bring Back the Porn
Still further, my joke that the stick up Uncle Jer's butt has a stick up it's butt is indeed stolen from a line about Al Gore in the 2000 election.

A little advice, JWF
September 3, 2009 - 02:46 ET by JerIt should be obvious that I enjoy good humor as much as anyone. But when you make a charge like that--completely out of thin air--and don't put any kind of emoticon or 'just kidding' signal after it, you're skating on thin ice.
Shawn may be more forgiving about it than me, because 1. it wasn't directed at him, and 2. he has posted many times about pornography and the rights of adults to view it, etc. Whatever my personal views are on the topic, I have avoided the subject. Consequently, you had no basis for and no business calling me "pornboy". Also, I wonder how anyone else, including Shawn, would feel after being told by someone that the latter had invaded his computer with a trojan horse. I know you didn't know about my recent trojan horse warning, but that fact hardly excuses the conduct. I don't think anyone would see the humor in it. And if you don't indicate anywhere in the post it was just a joke, of course the reaction is going to be less than amicable.
Do you understand my point?

In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, Dec, 5, 2001.
"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." Sen. Carl Levin (d, MI), Sept. 19, 2002.
"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.
"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seing and developing weapons of mass destruction." Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002.
"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002.
"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002.
"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years . We also should remember we have alway s underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." Sen. Jay Rockerfeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002,
"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do." Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002.
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction. "[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he has continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ... Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003.

DEBKAfile Special Report
September 3, 2009, 10:13 AM (GMT+02:00)
Hizballah operative training with anti-chemical mask
The
Kuwaiti daily Al-Siyassa reported Thursday, Sept. 3, that chemical
weapons were stored in the hidden Hizballah arms warehouse which blew
up at Hirbet Salim near the Israeli border in mid-July. Of the 11
Hizballah operatives killed in the blast, 3 died of chemical poisoning.
Hizballah denied any members had been killed or even that it maintains
a weapons store in breach of UN resolutions.
DEBKAfile disclosed at the time that the Lebanese terrorists had lost five men and more were missing.
On
July 21, we reported that the explosion heard on both sides of the
border refuted Israeli military claims that the Lebanese border was
secure and revealed that the destroyed arms dump was one of 35
Hizballah had lined up within 20 kilometers from the border. For this

European
intelligence sources reported on Sept. 1, that Hizballah had recently
boosted its military capabilities with a supply of chemical shells and
short-range missiles with chemical warheads and was about to receive
biological weapons as well. One source said that the Lebanese terrorist
group is now one of the most sophisticated and best trained military
forces in the Middle East, describing them as "bad guys with good
strategic vision."
The source quoted an Arab
official as predicting that Hizballah is gearing up "for something big"
and there is little doubt that Iran and Syria will be helping them to
obtain biological and chemical weapons.
"You're
going to be reporting a lot on Hizballah in the future," he said. "They
already have people on the ground in Europe and elsewhere. They are
just waiting for orders to act - they are not in a hurry."
Those WMD have already been delivered, according to al Siyassa. DEBKAfile's
military sources add that deliveries began some time ago. In the 2006
war in which Israel fought Hizballah, chemical defense systems were
discovered in the Lebanese group's bunkers and observation posts.
