Continuing a well-established pattern, the broadcast network evening newscasts all failed to point out the party affiliation of the major New Jersey office-holders amongst the 44 people the FBI arrested Thursday for corruption. As the AP pointed out, all but one are Democrats: “Among the 44 people arrested were the mayors of Hoboken, Ridgefield and Secaucus, Jersey City's deputy mayor, and two state assemblymen. A member of the governor's cabinet resigned after agents searched his home, though he was not arrested. All but one of the office holders are Democrats.”
Nonetheless, CNN's Wolf Blitzer and Deborah Feyerick saw a bi-partisan scandal. In the 5 PM EDT hour of The Situation Room, though five of the six elected officials (including all three mayors and the deputy mayor) are Democrats, Blitzer announced: “Dozens of public figures, including mayors, are caught in a stunning corruption sweep. They belong to both major parties.” From Newark, Feyerick reported “nearly 30 politicians and public officials, Democrats and Republicans, were rounded up in what prosecutors called the largest sweep of its kind.”
On CBS, reporter Kelly Wallace noted: “This is all part of a ten-year public corruption investigation that has already yielded two other high-profile indictments. Officials say some politicians don't seem to be getting the message.” Neither have the media about reporting party affiliation as both of those earlier “high-profile indictments” were of Democrats: Former state Senator Wayne Bryant and Assemblyman Joseph Vas.
FNC's Bret Baier, however, managed to start his item on Special Report: “The Democratic mayors of three New Jersey cities...”
The Newark Star-Ledger relayed which party the arrests most-impacted:
The case had immediate political ramifications, particularly for Democrats in Hudson County and the administration of Gov. Jon Corzine. By the end of the day, Joe Doria Jr., the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs, abruptly resigned from his cabinet post after his Trenton office and his home in Bayonne were searched by the FBI.
How the ABC, CBS and NBC anchors introduced their July 23 full stories on the corruption arrests, as compiled by the MRC's Brad Wilmouth:
ABC's World News:
CHARLES GIBSON: And we jump across the country to the state of New Jersey. That state has a long history of corruption. Today it got longer. Federal agents fanned out in massive raids, rounding up mayors, assemblymen, other public officials, even rabbis. The sweeping arrests cap a two-year investigation with allegations that are stunning even by New Jersey standards. Here’s Pierre Thomas.
CBS Evening News:
KATIE COURIC: Now to a major corruption case in New Jersey. Forty-four people were arrested in a federal sting today, including three mayors and five rabbis. Kelly Wallace says the allegations include everything from bribery to selling organ.
NBC Nightly News:
BRIAN WILLIAMS: A huge roundup in New Jersey this morning, and tonight, nearly four dozen people -- including three city mayors and two state legislators -- are under arrest. Charges here include bribery, money laundering, and no one has seen anything quite like this case. The story tonight from our Justice correspondent Pete Williams.

I watched this on Good Day
July 23, 2009 - 23:37 ET by fitzfongI watched this on Good Day New York this morning. Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto seemed to go to great lengths to avoid mentioning the party affliliations. Fortunately they had some political analyst on the phone who made it plain that it was a Democrat scandal.
Meanwhile CNN maintains its status as the most duplicitous "news" network on television. Wolf Blitzer packages his blatant propaganda in a calm demeanor and goofy personality. A total scumbag.

doing "journalism"
July 23, 2009 - 23:17 ET by LEWIS IN COLORADOI searched all day long after this story broke and I did not find a single report that identified the political party of the alleged offenders. As we all know any story about a republican has it in capital letters.

One must keep smiling
July 24, 2009 - 05:26 ET by MOONSTRUCKI purposedly looked at cnn site yesterday when this broke. The dems were not identified, but the rep was. I just smiled and then laughed out loud at the complete lack of telling it like it is. Nope not on that site. So like it has been said here in the past, if there is no party mentioned in the "story" we all know they are dems.
Why do dems think corruption is okay in the first place?? I DO NOT care of the party affiliation when I hear of a corruption story. Get the bums out!! But dems/libs always think it's okay, unless it is a conservative or republican, then and ONLY then does it become a major problem.
Keep up the good work libs.
Keep smiling ya'all- 2010 is not too far off.
I wish I could believe that
July 24, 2009 - 07:37 ET by rimskyI wish I could believe that 2010 would be a turning point, but I can't. Especially in a state like NJ.
BTW, there actually ARE conservatives living in that state.. I know both of 'em.
Regarding the msm's bias in not specifying the party, or making it seem like there was bipartisan involvement, it just keeps getting more blatant. They are more uninhibited than ever about displaying their bias.

July 24, 2009 - 07:48 ET by jessieHIt's pretty sad when you have to change stations to get a second opinion. If WE boycott these stations they might get the point. "Report the news, the whole news, or get out of the way".
I sometimes wish there was
July 24, 2009 - 09:15 ET by Scuba DudeI sometimes wish there was a way we could sue the State Run Media for not doing their jobs. Breach of contract anyone?
But alas, it is left to us to not tune in and give these people the ratings needed to stay on the air.
Hmmm, wouldn't it be interesting if at the end of every story people like us could be given the chance to rebut them on air? Show them for the shills they are?

Corruption in New Jersey... Nah Just Business As Usual
July 24, 2009 - 09:29 ET by Morgan StevensIt's to be expected that a twerp like Couric, who is nothing more than a democrat party operative, will go out of her way to circle the wagons around the democrats who got pinched yesterday in New Jersey. Expecting the so called state run media to mention that these dirt bags are all (except for one) democrats, is akin to trying to nail jello to the wall. The truly sad aspect of all of this hoopla is that by November, 2009 this will be a scant memory in the public's mind and as is always the case, here in the good ol' Democratric Peoples Republic of New Jersey, the dumb ass voters of this state will elect the next cabal of corrupt democrats, along with Jon Corzine, the governor, into office to replace the ones who got busted yesterday. Then a year or two from now ,the same thing will happen all over again. Another raid, more arrests and more wholesale corruption, and the voters will (with that all to familar Jersey Deer in the Headlights Look on their faces) ask themselves...... 'why and how does this keep happening' ? Yeah, well welcome to NJ baby... where the voters are stupid,"greased palmery" is the rule of the day, property taxes are out of control, the only notible part of the State is an overgrown teenager who runs around (in dirty blue jeans and a tee shirt) singing "Higways jammed with broken hero's on a last chance power drive" and when you ask someone where they are from, you preface your quetion by saying... 'what exit' ? Is it any wonder this State is a disgrace ?

simple conclusion...if they were republicans it would have been in the headline and repeated every 11 words

Update - name that party, or don't
July 24, 2009 - 18:24 ET by Gary HallThe Los Angeles Times followed in the footsteps of the networks today. A very nicely done story on the corruption bust of Democrats by the FBI -- only, the word Democrat is missing.
And when you compare the original AP wire story to the LA Times effort, it's rather easy to see that leaving out the party label of "Democrat.." well, took a bit of effort.
