After the Bush years Russians are naturally “wary” of a U.S. President, as negative views of the U.S. have soared ABC reported Monday night, but the network still managed to highlight teens, at a “Kremlin-sponsored summer camp,” who “are optimistic about President Obama.” One asserted “he's so young and energetic” and “he will give a new surge to our relationship,” while a second, echoing the take of U.S. journalists, maintained: “I see Obama as an innovator in your country.” (Back in January, World News featured a story made up of naive kids around the world sputtering beauty pageant-like simplicities about how Obama will bring “world peace” and inspires them to say “yes, we can!”)
Anchor Charles Gibson noted Obama was met in Moscow by “skepticism coupled with an edge of reserve” since “after nearly a decade of tense relations with the U.S., Russians remain wary, even of a President who promises change.” Reporter Clarissa Ward recited the reasons: “In the last eight years, profound disagreements over issues such as the war in Iraq, the invasion of Georgia, and NATO expansion have sunk U.S.-Russian relations to post-Cold War lows.” Specifically, “46 percent of Russians said they had a mainly negative opinion of the U.S. That's up from just seven percent in 1990.”
Nonetheless, Ward asserted “that with President Obama's visit to Moscow this week, they do expect relations to improve” and at a “Kremlin-sponsored summer camp” where teens “are schooled in Russian nationalism, lecture topics include the "'McDonaldsization' of the World.” Yet, “they are optimistic about President Obama. 'He's so young and energetic,' says Vagiz, 'and he will give a new surge to our relationship,'” Ward relayed in translating comments from a group of teens as they all sat by Lake Seliger. “'I see Obama as an innovator in your country,' adds Alexander. 'New face, new relationship.'”
Nothing wrong with people in another nation having a positive view of a U.S. President, but ABC made no such effort to find foreigners who liked Bush when he was in office.
My NewsBusters post the day after the Inauguration, “Kids Around the World on ABC: Obama Means 'Peace' & 'Yes We Can!'” recounted:
ABC's World News on Wednesday night used limited news time to feature a silly piece with soundbites from naive kids around the world sputtering beauty pageant-like simplicities about how President Barack Obama will bring "world peace" and inspires them to say "yes, we can!" Reporter Jim Sciutto touted how "we heard children around the world expressing hope and fascination with the new American President." Viewers heard a boy in Russia yearn for "peace, democracy and friendship" and a girl in the United Arab Emirates assert "he's interested in giving peace to the world and stopping wars," all before a boy from Indonesia promised: "He's going to change the world and make world peace." From Gaza, a kid hoped Obama will "prevent Israel from attacking us."
From Pakistan, Sciutto relayed, "hope for an American President with a Muslim father." A boy then wished "he can make the citizens of the U.S. recognize that we, not all Muslims are terrorists and not all terrorists are Muslims." And what story on foreign reaction would be complete without input from France? A French girl: "I think that he may stop the war in Iraq. At least I hope he will."
Sciutto ended by trumpeting how "that familiar campaign theme has gone global." Girl in South Korea: "Yes, we can." Boy in Italy: "Yes, we can." Barack Obama: "Yes, we can." Girl in France: "Yes, we can."...
The MRC's Brad Wilmouth corrected the closed-captioning against the vide to provide this transcript of the story on the Monday, July 6 World News on ABC:
CHARLES GIBSON: And in his travels overseas, President Obama has generally been greeted by large enthusiastic crowds. In Moscow, it has been skepticism coupled with an edge of reserve. After nearly a decade of tense relations with the U.S., Russians remain wary, even of a President who promises change. Here's Clarissa Ward.CLARISSA WARD: No one expected crowds to line the streets as President Obama drove by today.
HILLARY CLINTON, IN MARCH: We want to reset our relationship.
WARD: Pushing the reset button was never going to be easy in a country where anti-Americanism is a well-established tradition.
ANDREY KORTUNOV, NEW EURASIA FOUNDATION: Whatever the United States does in the world is often interpreted by a faction of our political establishment as something which is directed against Russia.
WARD: In the last eight years, profound disagreements over issues such as the war in Iraq, the invasion of Georgia, and NATO expansion have sunk U.S.-Russian relations to post-Cold War lows. "I'm against America's imperial ambitions," this man says. In a recent poll, 46 percent of Russians said they had a mainly negative opinion of the U.S. That's up from just seven percent in 1990. But the majority also said that with President Obama's visit to Moscow this week, they do expect relations to improve.
At this Kremlin-sponsored summer camp, thousands of young people from across the country enjoy outdoor activities and are schooled in Russian
nationalism. Lecture topics include the "'McDonaldsization' of the World.” But they are optimistic about President Obama. "He’s so young and energetic," says Vagiz, "and he will give a new surge to our relationship.” "I see Obama as an innovator in your country," adds Alexander. “New face, new relationship.” Not all Russians are enamored with the new face of America's leadership. But many are at least curious. Clarissa Ward, ABC News, Seliger, Russia.
The piece ended with video of Obama's picture on a nesting doll.

July 7, 2009 - 11:09 ET by slickwillie2001That's a great picture that doesn't need a body language expert to decode. It reminds me of the meeting between Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel and the Bamster, where the Bamster could not face Netanyahu. To read Medvedev's mind at that moment...
The handshake
July 7, 2009 - 11:23 ET by BlondeI either saw or read a piece not long ago that explained the "power ploy" in politicians' handshakes. How position (particularly for photos) is all, and these guys all try to master it.
The Russian, however, just blew Bamster's power play to hell and back with THAT ploy. The "right" is the power position, and notice how Obama is touching the shoulder with his right hand. The absolute deadpan look, specifically not at Obama, kinda ruined the whole thing.
How's this trip working out for ya, Barry?

Let's all take note...
July 6, 2009 - 21:06 ET by PrairieSkyof the insightful wisdom of young Russians...
First off, if Russian teens are anything like many (if not most) American teens, they are not exactly "up" on their country's history or current world events, barring the propaganda that they get from the leftist media, or from entertainment shows (John Stewart, Letterman, etc.). That said, even if these young Russians are educated in the facts, the track record of who the Russian people have supported or (caved into) in the past, isn't exactly worthy of admiration. The fact that these young people think what they think about Obama, merely reflects what they see and hear from the liberal, leftist global media. They are fed a glowingly misleading, one-sided view of him, so of course that is what they regurgitate back. These kids have been told that George Bush was belligerent, anti-Russian, and hostile, according to the global press, but Obama is the great, shining hope for improving American-Russian relations.
Pardon me if I'm not overcome by a wave of respectful admiration for these wet-behind-the-ears Russians...They really don't have a clue...

July 6, 2009 - 21:36 ET by mooseburgeryou cannot be more right about the ridiculous clothes of Michelle MaBelle who is too lazy to care for her own children (since why else does her mother now live in the white house, to take care of the kids, wasn't it --O wait, her mother could not do that either anylonger because she is now soooo busy with all those Washington events too).
Even with her private make-up artist who shaved off her angry eyebrowes to make it less angry looking (sorry, it still looks angry. it is all over her face , may be 10 botox shots will help), the last thing that comes to my mind is a fashionable well dressed mannered person. Sorry. even the worst dressed transvestite in SF's Castro district looks 100x better
but lets not continue here since the purpose of my post is not to redicule, belittle or say negative things about Michelle MaBelle. That is just my opinion and I might be wrong.

July 7, 2009 - 01:54 ET by Seabeach4348Interesting to see that the rest of the world has their own crowd of politically and historically brainwashed clueless kids just as we do except that, apparently, we have a lot of politically ignorant and clueless, propagandized adults as well. I mean how else could this abomination be elected POTUS?
He should have given Putin an Ipod with his famous, informative, and inspiring speeches as he did with the Queen in England. Also, Obozo should emphasize that he is busy appointing "Czars" here back home that are accountable only to him. That should give Putin and Co a "tingle down their legs". Can't remember anytime in our past that we had or needed "Czars" in the USA, can you?
Add that to Obozo's readiness to sell us out and to make concessions on our defense capabilities (and I'm sooo sure that the Russians are anxious to do likewise (or at least say that they will do so...) dontcha think? It's the good intentions that count!
And while he's at it he should give Putin a copy of Reverend Wrong's profound "GD America" sermon; you know, this is one of the sermons that the Jug-earred Jerk doesn't recall hearing or knowing about.
I wonder just how screwed our once great country will be at the end of this idiot's term. And I cannot find the words to describe just how much I despise this guy.
Ridiculous
July 7, 2009 - 03:20 ET by BondPlainBondRead an article today by Tom Fife, entitled, "The First Time I Met Barack."
The article, which I will not link to, is just like the Russian teenage love story - propaganda.
What is NOT propaganda, but is cold, hard fact, was this exchange between a reporter and Russian President Medvedev today in Moscow:
No one in the media is mentioning nor writing about is this:
Did this response to a reporter's question cause anyone else to take pause? Medvedev, like Obama, says the public has no right to know how matters which directly affect their safety will be decided upon. They are not entitled to know the terms of the compromise; not even an overview, an outline, an analogy.
Strange to see Obama nodding and nodding and nodding as these words are spoken by his Socialist counterpart, agreeing to the content and context of their "mutual understanding."
Yeah, I'm not feeling too comfortable with this turn of events. For the Russian people, for us.
BOZO
July 7, 2009 - 08:01 ET by nadadhimmiTake a look at the photo of Obama and Medvedev at the podium. Obama is approaching, he uses both hands on Medvedev and has his head cocked to the side like a puppy in a gesture that says, "please like me". It is altogether a posture of submission. Medvedev on the other hand, touches Obama in the most minimal of fashions , doesn't look at him in aknowledgment, and has a bored and sarcastic look on his face. As if to say WHO IS THIS SUBMISSIVE LITTLE BOZO??????????????.

"Moscow knows we aren't going to start a nuclear war with Russia. Putin (forget poor 'President' Dmitry Medvedev) wants to gut our conventional capabilities to stage globe-spanning military operations. He wants to cut us down to Russia's size."
I have lately realized that another reason that the Bamster selected Biden; Biden's foreign policy gaffes make the Bamster look intelligent. It's just like the flypaper theory of late-night comedy.
