“President Obama's response to the government crackdown has been criticized by some Republicans as timid,” Katie Couric noted on Wednesday's CBS Evening News as she featured a retort: “Today, in an exclusive interview with CBS News, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair came to his defense saying he believes the protestors understand the tough position the President is in.”
Following a single soundbite from Blair, Couric plugged more on the Web: “For more of my extended conversation with Tony Blair, you can go to our Web site at CBSNews.com.”
The entire brief segment on the Wednesday, June 24 CBS Evening News:
KATIE COURIC: President Obama's response to the government crackdown has been criticized by some Republicans as timid. Today, in an exclusive interview with CBS News, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair came to his defense saying he believes the protestors understand the tough position the President is in.TONY BLAIR: I don't think any of those people out in the street in Iran -- who incidentally are utterly in touch through the Internet and elsewhere with the modern world -- I think that they will completely understand that he's trying to manage a situation in which he obviously is supportive of them but doesn't want to end up in a situation where his attack on the regime is then used as a reason to act against them.
COURIC: For more of my extended conversation with Tony Blair, you can go to our Web site at CBSNews.com.

E-e-e-e-vil Blair redeemed
June 24, 2009 - 23:19 ET by nkviking75Excuse me, Katie. Wasn't Tony Blair e-e-e-e-vil for working with George W. Bush on Operation Iraqi Freedom? I guess supporting the One redeems you in the eyes of the state-controlled media.
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
Where are they?
June 24, 2009 - 23:31 ET by RiharLooking at the screen capture I've concluded that they are not in the Matrix (since it's all white). I have therefore concluded that they are waiting to talk to Orson. Mork is probably still in debriefing after discovering that although some humans treat each other badly, it's better to treat each other nice.
When a liberal speaks, the truth is busy elsewhere.

Bush Amnesia or The Light of Obama
June 25, 2009 - 03:06 ET by LifeTrekWhat really gets me is that while Obama's staff is starting to give Obama credit for the Iranian uprising the world is forgetting:
George W. Bush discussing the effects of victory in Iraq, November 6, 2003.
No one -- I mean no one, even the blogs remember this was the predicted end game of the last 6 years!

Weakness
June 25, 2009 - 04:49 ET by DontFeedTheTrollsA strong President upsets some foreign leaders, but keeps them generally restrained, a weak President signals the world's despots that they now can unleash the dogs, with little fear of reprisal. Obama is the latter. He even wrote a letter telling the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei he now has no need for restraint. Obama appears to not have a grasp of history, or, more likely, believes a false history, given his background. Now, people are dying because of that fact.

Nonsense

There is ZERO evidence to support this. Every word we have heard from Mousavi's staff or from individual protest leaders indicates that they are pleading for words of support from Western leaders. A movement such as this will fail without outside support and our novice President doesn't seem to understand how important this effort is. He also doesn't understand leadership. Leaders don't sit back and "wait to see how things go", they push the situation in the direction that is in our best interests.
PS Is it my imagination or is K-K-Katie turning into a mini-me version of Chris Matthews?
A Weak President
June 25, 2009 - 09:34 ET by slickwillie2001Here's a great smackdown of the Bamster's weakness on Iran:
A Weak American President: http://www.forbes.com
"The president's storyline that we don't know what has transpired in Iran is an insult to the intelligence of both Americans and Iranians. Our absence from the polling booths doesn't mean the results are a mystery."
This kind of political
November 6, 2009 - 18:04 ET by GordmanThis kind of political issues are always delicate and having someone to speak in your support often makes the difference. This is what Tony Blair did, he understood the most subtle political aspects and he supported Obama for his decision. I am more supportive with Blair now perhaps because I recently read and article on Blair rewards and this made me understand better Blair's political view.
