Reagan the 'Moses of...Greedy White Men'; Beat Reagan Statue with Shoe Like Saddam's?

Catching up with Friday night's Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, guest D.L. Hughley -- the actor/comedian who until recently had a show on CNN -- insisted “you never saw drugs or drive-byes or homeless people” in inner-cities before Reagan “cut” social programs and became “the Moses of...greedy white men.” Left-wing blogger Jeremy Scahill predicted “some guys” will pull down the new Capitol rotunda Reagan statue “and drag it through the street like the Saddam statue with some kid hitting it with a shoe.”

Pegged to the placement of the new statute of Ronald Reagan, Hughley declared: “I didn't love Ronald Reagan.” Maher echoed “I didn't either,” and then Hughley launched a rant with distortions of quotes from Ronald Reagan, as he recalled:
I grew up in Los Angeles inner city -- you never saw drugs or drive-byes or homeless people or anything like that. All the social programs that were cut as a result of Reagan coming into office and greed just became a hobby....I remember watching...him say people in America who are homeless are homeless because they want to be. That seemed to be one of the most-- and I was a kid -- I knew how cruel that was and I would never, you know, ascribe any level of greatness to somebody who would say, you know, if somebody's hungry in America it's because they're on a diet. Like that, to me, made greedy white men feel good about being greedy white men. He was the kind of the Moses of leading them to feeling good about being greedy white men. So to me he wasn't a great man.

Of course, social spending rose in the 1980s and has soared since. And LA was a quiet, safe city with no rioting before 1981?

Another guest panelist, Scahill, who writes for the far-left The Nation and runs the RebelReports blog, soon interjected: “Some guys are going to go and pull that statue down and drag it through the street like the Saddam statue with some kid hitting it with a shoe.”

From the Friday, June 5 Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO:

BILL MAHER: Nancy Reagan was on Capitol Hill unveiling this statue of Reagan. Should we have a statue of Reagan? I know Americans love Ronald Reagan. There was a Gallup poll in 2005 of the “Top Ten Greatest Americans.” He came in one. Washington was four, Lincoln was two.

D.L. HUGHLEY: I didn't love Ronald Reagan.

MAHER: I didn't either. I don't get why he is thought to be-

HUGHLEY: And I tell you why, it's a matter of perspective. You didn't see in my community -- I grew up in Los Angeles inner city -- you never saw drugs or drive-byes or homeless people or anything like that. All the social programs that were cut as a result of Reagan coming into office and greed just became a hobby. Really, you never saw drugs or drive byes. You never even saw homeless people. I remember watching it -- and I was a kid -- watching him say people in America who are homeless are homeless because they want to be.

MAHER: And, you know, we went into debt, deregulation, all the thing that have come back to haunt us.

HUGHLEY: Even the border, even the border. He led, he opened the borders so that the illegal immigrants that Republicans are arguing about now -- Reagan spearheaded that.

JEREMY SCAHILL, REBELREPORTS.COM: Some guys are going to go and pull that statue down and drag it through the street like the Saddam statue with some kid hitting it with a shoe.

Brain dead leftists are past pathetic...so are the simpleton lemmings in the audience that don't have a clue to what they are clapping about...let alone know why.

Disgusting...simple as that.

New speed record

They went from a statue of Reagan as an "issue" to talk about, and within a couple minutes, suggested that Reagan's statue be treated like Saddam Hussein's. How's that for demonizing political opponents?

You know, this is like listening to a bunch of teenage girls discuss the NFL playoffs. "Oh those boys are much too much ..."

I grew up in Los Angeles

I grew up in Los Angeles inner city -- you never saw drugs or drive-byes or homeless people or anything like that.

Yeah, well I grew up in Los Angeles, too.  Guess what: there were plenty of drugs and homeless people in L.A. before Reagan cleaned things up.  Now, the only reason there weren't "drive-byes" in LA in those days is because every car was stuck in the Jimmy Carter/Jerry Brown gas lines.  Oh, and I guess those Watts Riots never happened then, D.L.?

LA gas lines - excellent point

I just assumed they scheduled their driveby murders on odd/even days like in the other hoods.

They did, but their

They did, but their Detroit-made vehicles usually broke down on the days they weren't stuck in the gas lines.

Amen, fitzfong

You're exactly right. Hughley is a lying sack of s***. In fact, anyone who was in any big city in America in the seventies knows he's full of s***. Hell, all you have to do is watch any movie from that decade set in an urban area and the stench and decay in the background are too obvious to be missed.

I also grew up in LA and

I also grew up in LA and believe me there were drive-bys, homeless and numerous gangs.

During the 70's, drive-bys were not as indiscriminate as these days, most of the time they were targeted, not spraying rounds into crowds. Shooters went after their targets, not innocents.

As far as the homeless, a drive thru downtown LA after 10/11 at night and they came out of the shadows if you stopped at a red light.

never saw drugs, drive-byes, or homeless people, or...

THBarb

Hey! That's right. I don't think there was any famine, or wars, or slavery, or evil, or even death until Reagan came along.

Good thing they don't teach history anymore or we might not be able to respect President Obama.

Of course, if we had studied more history and economics, perhaps he never would have made it to the Senate, let alone the White House.

"famine, or wars, or

"famine, or wars, or slavery, or evil, or even death". Your remarks just reminded me of Darfur, we're not hearing much about that since Bush has departed. Has the situation in Darfur improved with Obumba's election?

LA was a quiet, safe

LA was a quiet, safe city...

And the Crips, Bloods, MS-13, etc. were philanthropic organizations until Reagan ruined everything.

Yep...that it was, until

Yep...that it was, until the Watts Riots...things went down-hill progressively from there...and not just LA area either.

D.L. Hughley Is Sincere (I Think) But Misinformed

I have more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. The drive-bys started nationwide in the 1980s because of the rise of crack, which provided big, fast, easy money for those who used to sell heroin and regular cocaine. Because of that, gangs sprouted up and grew large - just like the booze bootleggers in the 1920s.

Violence exploded throughout the crack neighborhoods because there was so much money at stake, and so many vendettas to be settled because of all the killings. It was not because the suddenly bored kids had their social programs taken away from them.

The homeless explosion occurred because the Supreme Court said the mentally ill could no longer be held in institutions without their consent. The doors flew open, and those poor people ended up on the streets, because their families couldn't handle them.

D.L. Hughley wasn't just a kid when Reagan was president, he was an indoctrinated product of the State. He still is.

For some reason I thought

For some reason I thought Reagan had a hand in releasing psychiatric patients in the '80s?

It's amazing how many abandoned psych hospitals there are out there.

Did you leave the hospital

Did you leave the hospital abandoned?  If you read it said they were let out on their own because they wanted out.  The hospitals also kicked people out who could not pay to stay as a result of the SCOTUS descision.  There is only so much space in a county or state mental facility and there is still a big demand.  Like there isa demand for jail space and the less offensive are let go to make room for the newly offensive.

You're right on both counts, rammingspeed

But the implication that American cities were wonderful places before the neglect of Reagan set in is as wrong as it could possibly be. The inner cities were cesspools of drugs, violent crime, prostitution...you name it. It was under Reagan that they began--I emphasize "began"--to be cleaned up--not necessarily because of anything Reagan did directly, but because the people became emboldened to take back their cities from the thugs.

Homelessness has always been a problem when it comes to alcoholics and drug addicts. They'd rather spend  money on their favorite vice than waste it on rent. To pretend that that began with Reagan is dishonest in the extreme. And the reason for the sudden rise in the numbers of homeless people in the '80s, as you say, was due to an action of the courts, not Reagan.

What a crock of lies piled on lies

I wish I'd win one of those $200 million lottery prizes (well, don't we all). I'd love to spend time getting a 'truth in TV speech' law passed and then put these asshats to the trial.

"you never saw drugs or drive-byes or homeless people or anything like that" There's a HUGE lie right there. I admit it peaked during RR's presidency, but it got its wheels from the drug culture of the 60's and 70's, not the 80's. The homeless were made so by the 70's liberal movements to bust everyone out of the institutions for the mentally incompetent. Now they just roam the streets instead of being cared for in clean protective circumstances. Etc., etc,. etc.

WOW

Does this douche nozzle actually believe the tripe that is crawling out of his mouth?

Nope, no inner city drugs or crime existed until the white man showed up in 1981...

Why do black people CONSTANTLY CONSTANTLY CONSTANTLY bring up race?  Get off your asses TRY.  This nation was built to be prosperous for everyone, not a crutch for lazy asses.  The Jews are the most persecuted race in history.  I don't hear them blathering on about things that happened to them even 70 years ago.

And DL Hughley was a member

And DL Hughley was a member of the well-known "Bloods" gang before Reagan.   I guess they were just a club of good kids that liked to make lemonade and tell ghost stories?

I'm Surprised.....

I'm surprised that Mr. Ugly didn't spew forth with the theory that Reagan introduced cocaine and AIDS to the black population! That lie has been told and is generally accepted in that community!

and these are the ones the

and these are the ones the network has deemed worthy of speaking about Reagan? I'm sure he missed the thugs in the street while his mom was changing his diaper in front of the tv where he learned ALL about Reagain on CNN.

Taxed Enough Already

He's a stupid black dude

He's a stupid black dude spitting out propaganda promoted by white liberals.  "Don't blame us, blame those white people over there."

The problem with a lot of minorities in general is that they scapegoat conservative white people for their problems when their plight can be attributed to their own background, genes, family, and ancestry.

If you're poor, it's not because some conservative screwed you over.  It's because your own kind did.  If your parents would have worked harder, if your ancestors would have thought ahead... then you would probably be better off.

I've noticed that a lot of gang members take out their frustrations of innocent people who had nothing to do with their problems but at the same time hold their abusive or neglectful parents on a pedestal.   The same parents that abused them, ignored them, couldn't provide for them.

It all comes down to FAMILY VALUES!  Black community has lost them.  And white liberals have twisted their "unhappiness" and exploited it for their own political gains.

I laugh when stupid black liberals criticize a self made man like Rove and then turn around and kiss "born into wealth" Kennedy's on the ass.  WTH do rich white liberals know about being poor or being a minority?

Social welfare has created a mentallity amongst welfare receiving parents where they don't feel reponsible for their children.  Children are just people they get money for, not people to work for. " Government isupports them, why should I care.  My children are the governments responsibility, why else are they supporting them?" People don't value things they don't work for.  A parent that works for their children feels like their child's achievements are important because their own personal labor is going towards paying for them.  They don't want their investment to go to waste. How much does it cost to raise a kid and send to to college?  It's hundreds of thousands of dollars for the average family.  If people don't see their children as invesments, they won't take care of them.

You are mostly right, but

You are mostly right, but there's one thing that needs to be noted.  You say "People don't value things they don't work for" which is basically true, but  it has been misused to justify mandated loans to people with bad credit.  It is one of the fundamental mistakes in thinking that has led to the current financial crisis.

"Ownership" is not the cause of good behavior, it's the RESULT of it.  One of the beneficial aspects of not having welfare is that it "punishes" bad behavior.  The biggest problem with welfare is that it encourages bad behavior.

Hughley is a sad, pathetic ignoramus whose anger should be directed at the Leftoids who enslaved 90% of the Black communtiy via the welfare plantation.

It's not "ownership."

It's not "ownership."  There is a difference between "owning" something and "building" something they "own."  People who receive welfare "own" the money they get... they didn't earn it but they do "own" it once they get it.  It's their property.

One does not value things they don't work for.  work = effort.  Ownership does not imply effort.

Same with children.  When it comes to welfare parents, the goverment takes the bulk of the responsibility of raising the children.  The parents responsibility is diminished immensely.  Parent doesn't have to sacrifice for their children, work hard for them.  They don't put effort into building them as human beings.  Since they really haven't put effort into building them, they don't see them as invesments or fell connected to their success or lack of it.  For them raising kids is easy, they don't have to work long hours to feed them, give them medical care, give them the necessities.  Children become a source of income that others take care of.

A working parent who raises their child without aid has to sacrifice, has to tolerate unpleasentness for their child.  They feel a deeper connection to their childs success or lack thereof since they have put their own blood, sweat, and tears into them.

Ignorant tool.

Another washed-up never-was "comedian" knows and understands politics, economics, and social policy? Umm... riiiiiight. How exactly do I owe you a living? Did you go to (and pay for) school for me? Did you work for me? Did YOU earn the capital to start MY business for me?

Maybe if tools like this moron would stop using the government as their personal protection racket, I could afford to give money to charity (and one of MY choice - not yours). How dare you call me greedy for wanting and having the right to keep what is mine!

Once again they are shown

Once again they are shown how having no actual perspective gets in the way of their own reality.

Since they socialize only within their own liberal circles they have no touch with the thoughts, feelings and struggles of the majority of Americans.

With a back ground like this

With a back ground like this who would dare argue with this mental giant, among the other giants in this show??????????

D.L. was the second of four children. His father was an airline maintenance worker and his mother was a homemaker. He grew up in L.A.'s South Central where he was a member of the Bloods gang after getting kicked out of high school. However, he turned his life around after a cousin was shot. He quit the gang and got a job as a telemarketer for the Los Angeles Times, where he moved into management and met his wife-to-be. She was the one who convinced him to try his humor on stage. After years of club dates, he was selected by BET as the first host of "Comic View" and subsequently got additional recognition with two very adult oriented HBO specials.

Got kicked out of high school.

Joined a gang.

His cousin was shot.

Quit the gang.

He became a &^%$# telemarketer.

And last but not least a comedian.

THAT.. IS.. THIS.. IS.. ALL.. THIS.. IDIOT.. HAS.. DONE..

But we should listen to him because he is some kind of wise sage..

No thanks I think I will listen to my lab snoring at my feet, makes more sense.

did't his show get cancelled?? I wonder why.......uummm

Notice the composition of

Notice the composition of Maher's "panel?"

Nothing like 4 well off liberals egging on the well-off token black guy about the evils of greedy white men.

Liberal proganda at its finest.  Have a bunch of white liberals egging on a black guy talking to a white aundience about evil white people.

You need him there to differentiate between what a "good" white and an "evil" white are.

Damn Republicans

Isn't it a well known fact that no person in the history of the world was homeless or hungry prior to the formation of the Republican Party?

We should all be ashamed of ourselves.

What's with the clunky

What's with the clunky glasses these so-called comedians are now sporting? Is DL trying to channel Rog from "What's Happening"? Here's a tip for D.L.: glasses don't convince us that Janeane Garafolo is intelligent and they're not working for you either.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

One more reason why...

I could never be a Democrat.  I'd have to defend guys like this and it just isn't in me.  Jim Webster

You Made A Better Point Than I, danebramage

I ddin't mean to imply that there weren't horrific problems before the 1980's and crack, and before the courts turned the mentally ill onto the streets. There sure as hell was, and I was an eyewitness, going back to the late 1960s.

But crack is the most ferociously addicting drug ever and customers came from everywhere. The violence done by addicts and dealers and gangs related to it all was mind bending. It just happened to have occurred at a time which D.L. Hughley singles out for a rewritting of history.

Bill Maher is an idiot for not knowing this and pointing it out. This isn't some mystery now being uncovered, it was on the front pages of newpapers all the time. People have just forgotten about it, and liberals love taking advantage ot that.

Here's an idea...

Let's all beat DL Hugley's face with a shoe instead.  A nice size 13 that's just walked around Central Park's dog walk area.  Honestly, I am so sick and tired of unintelligent idiots like this getting the stage and being made to feel as if their opinions actually matter.  This guy sports an IQ of about 80 and he's opining about Reagan in this way?  Truly a dumbass who isn't fit to iron one of Renaldus Magnus' shirts. As for Maher, well we all know what an idiot he is.

Who in the heck is this Jeremy character anyway?  From what orofice did he pull the "some guys" comment.  Another idiot.  Probably another Obama lover who's also Jewish (like Maher) - which is the truest definition of stupid.

Typical liberal: someone who thinks that they are intelligent, but they're completely wrong.

Reality Check Please

Is this guy for real.

in the 1970's I lived in Chicago, Obama town.  the Fed govt was pouring in millions of dollars to assist the poor underprivileged people living there who didn't have homes and were relying on the Govt to give it to them. these towering monstrosities of social system could be seen everyday as I rode the L train to Oak Park where I lived.

the Chicago Tribune reported daily of drug and sexual abuse going on in these slummed areas, these people were killing them selves with knives and sticks.  the only difference between then and now is that they have more access to cheap guns and govt sponsored cheap drugs both legal and illegal.  Heroine was the big dope of that day today it is meths and coke.

I think this man needs to wake up and research a little before he opens his trap.  gang violence, killings and drug and sexual abuse have been happening in the inner city since before he was born.  not just since Regan was in office.

Reagan-Homeless & the Kid

DL, if you check your history:

1. LA County has been a home to AA Gangs since the 1920's

2. The "homeless" statement you attribute to Reagan "One problem that we've had, even in the best of times, is the people sleeping on the grates, the homeless who are homeless, you might say, by choice." was made on 1/31/1984

3. By 1980, there were an estimated 30,000 Gang members in LA County, and had a reported 355 murders attributed to those gangs.

4. When Reagan made this statement you were 34 days (Mar 6, 1963) shy of your 21st B-Day.

STFU Hugley!

Because of Obama, it's now kool for bigots like Hughley...

...to openly despise whites.

Obama was open about how close he was to bigot Rev Wright who never hid his hatred for whites. The media gave Obama a free pass on that and he never suffered the repercussions someone else would have, which is now the root cause for these bigots like D. L. Hughley to feel free to spew their racial hatred without repercussion.

Just look at the pattern of anti-white bigots Obama has comfortably surrounded himself with.

Rev Wright who openly says that greedy white men have ruined the world.

Obama himself who stated that he longer wanted to associate with whites because he didn't want to ingratiate himself to them.

Michelle Obama who felt out of place at Princeton because there were too many whites there for her.

Father Pfleger who had an anti-white bigot eruption on Hillary Clinton during the primaries.

Bernadine Dhorn and Billy Ayers who just wrote an anti-white book titled "Race Course Against White Supremacy".

Eric Holder, who called America a "nation of cowards". We all know who he was talking about don't we?

Sonia Sotomayor who obviously has a problem with whites as evidenced by an anti-white comment she has repeated numerous times spanning decades.

There's a very disturbing pattern of Obama being comfortable surrounding himself with people who dislike and look down on whites.

D.L. Hughley is nothing more than an uneducated, low-life,

...racist of the first order.

There is currently drying dog-squeeze in my backyard that is more intelligent than this putrid waste of sperm.

F___ him, the camel he rode in on, and the two people who fornicated (unfortunately for civilized America, sans birth-control) and thus brought his worthless, racist, hate-mongering ass into this world.

Obama's health care "reform" plan is to blow up the building in order to fix a leak in the roof-Herman Cain

Uh, people are homeless

Uh, people are homeless because they want to be.  They are too maladjusted to live under anyone else's rules nor to maintain a home or handle responsibilities.  They are merely a step below the SSI underworld of druggies and alcoholics who actually do live in subsidized government apartments.

Don't act like they're go-getters who have fallen on hard times due to the failure of Capitalism.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

If anything, they might be

If anything, they might be go-getters who've been shat upon by leftist government.  Like the shoeshine guy who couldn't use his paltry savings to get an apartment because the city demanded he pay licensing fees for his business, as reported here recently.

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

Hughley is right.  There

Hughley is right.  There were no homeless people when he was a kid.

Back then, they were called bums and vagrants.

It took the PC movement to come up with a euphemism that makes them into victims.  Now THAT's progress!

A Rascist Black!

Hughley is a rascist! He complains about the illegals being here because of Reagan yet he bashes him as a "White Moses!" Heres one for you, Hughley! Sit down and shut up! I'm tired of hearing from "The Poor Little Picked On Minority!" I'm tired of my money being spent on your ungrateful butts while you contribute nothing except your oral excrement! You don't have a clue regarding the civil rights movement or the history of this country! If you think most of us whites are greedy and bad, well you're the carbon copy!

That's right! Reagan invented drive-by shootings!

Keep talking, moron!  Even the pathetic, white-guilt idiots who believe white people are responsible for the pitiful situation of many blacks are starting to see through their ignorance and your BS!

Until black people start embracing work and education and not bling and ho's you will remain at the bottom of the economic food chain waiting for a handout from the working taxpayer.  Until you learn there are bad consequences for bad decisions you will always live in poverty!  Does saying "6% of the US population (black males) is responsible for over 50% of violent crimes" make me a racist?  No, it makes me someone stating the facts!  Blacks can, and should, do much better and stop being a tremendous weight on this country!
