With television hosts unwilling to joke about President Barack Obama as those comedians regularly ridicule conservatives, there’s a bright spot coming up this week in a new TV show set to debut on ABC which will mock leftist environmentalism. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday:
The new animated television series ‘The Goode Family’ is a send-up of a clan of environmentalists who live by the words ‘What would Al Gore do?’ Gerald and Helen Goode want nothing more than to minimize their carbon footprint. They feed their dog, Che, only veggies (much to the pet's dismay) and Mr. Goode dutifully separates sheets of toilet paper when his wife accidentally buys two-ply. And, of course, the family drives a hybrid.
The series, from Mike Judge who created Beavis and Butt-Head for MTV and King of the Hill for Fox, will debut Wednesday night at 9 PM EDT/PDT, 8 PM CDT/MDT. The May 22 Journal article, “Making a Mockery of Being Green -- The creator of ‘Beavis and Butt-Head' and ‘King of the Hill' has a new target: environmentalists,” observed: “Much as Mr. Judge's series King of the Hill finds humor in the dramas of a working-class Texas family, Goode lampoons a liberal Midwestern household. In Goode, the characters are often mocked for being green just to fit in with their friends and neighbors.”
ABC.com has a preview video with commentary from Judge and his collaborators.
DebbieSchlussel.com, “Can't Wait for This: New Animated ABC Mike Judge Series Mocks Liberal Enviro-Crazies,” has gathered in one post three YouTube clips from the show.

My guess is that if it was lampooning a family from the coastal regions, especially California, that it would hit too close to where the real crazies live and would provoke too much righteous anger.

The writer takes a dim view of the show (surprise, surprise) and repeatedly states how it's easy - too easy - to make fun of the politically correct.
Really? Then how come so few shows on tv dare to do it?

May 25, 2009 - 16:04 ET by danbo"Fire Ant Relocation Program " I assume that's a joke. But after seeing so many wierd programs. It might just be real.
Poison only chases fire ants to your neighbors yard. Then he uses poison to relocate them back to you. But at least it helps cut down the size of the mound.
Is there also a formosan termite relocation program. (I'd like to relocate them to liberal states. Along with the nutria.)

King of the Hill
May 25, 2009 - 15:07 ET by Kingfish17I still watch King of the Hill and I don't view it as a show that makes fun of conservatives, far from it. It does make fun of all sorts of different types of people, particularly do-good social service types from the government.
I'm looking forward to this.

The BBC Did "Good Neighbors" In The 1970's
May 25, 2009 - 15:30 ET by zeestephenThe BBC did this same series, called "Good Neighbors," 30 years ago.
You can still see re-runs on the PBS channels in Seattle.
Although the original series did ridicule the "Extreme Greens" to some extent, the materialistic, politically Conservative neighbors were ridiculed in equal measure, and often more so.
I suspect ABC's "Goode Family" will turn out to be the standard Hard Left political propaganda that I see on every other prime time network show.

Thats why I'm taking this with a grain of salt. If ABC will bow to Bill Clinton and edit parts of Path To 9/11, no doubt one phone call from Al Gore will have the same effect.
Then again maybe ABC is looking to rake in some advertising dollars by targeting a conservative audience.
Time will tell.

May 25, 2009 - 20:32 ET by fitzfongSame here. Mike Judge is usually very funny. I'm a huge fan of Office Space, Beavis and Butt-head and King of the Hill. He tends to skewer uptight bureaucrats without much direct reference to ideology.

This show is basically KOTH not set in Texas. It basically follows the exploits of people who identify as liberals and learn from their mistakes.

Next thing you know, you'll hear that it was cancelled due to lower viewership. That means, of course, that Algore and his Merry Band of Envirowackos pulled a "Jackson/Sharpton" on ABC.
Mike Judge
May 25, 2009 - 23:22 ET by eugeneromeroMike Judge lives in Austin and he hits the nail right on the head. These things are real: Grocery stores adding a nickel to your total for every plastic bag you use, hybrids with so many stickers on it the drivers can't see outside the back window, and the ever-loving adoration for commies like Che Guevara. Austin is full of these types. Remember, it's in the only blue county in this red state. Should be a funny show.

Please tune in
May 26, 2009 - 04:46 ET by danebramageI believe it's very important that people watch and support this program, assuming it's what they're saying it is. We've actually won all the arguments. Where we're still losing is in the propaganda wars. This kind of program is a first step toward recapturing the culture for Americans. If we want to see more like it, aimed not just at fringe movements like the environmental movement, but at the heart of Leftism itself, we need to bring in the bucks for shows like this.
Tell a friend to watch it, and then call him to make sure he didn't forget.

Can't Wait To Catch It...
May 26, 2009 - 23:20 ET by The7SticksI hope it has as much luck in finding an audience as King of the Hill did. Me and my dad loved catching every episode when KOTH was on (still is in syndication and Adult Swim.) What's really going to have to happen is that the supporting cast has to be able to carry the show the way the previous one did. It was always Dale, Bill and Boomhauer that me and my dad would want to catch the most because they were the spark that really made it work. Also, Kahn the Laotian neighbor with his superiority complex over "you stupid hillbilly rednecks", it's just priceless to see a minority character who gets away with saying anything racist about white people like Hank and just shows you the double standard ("I don't hate the man because of where he came from, I hate him for what he says to me. He can come from Mars for all I care, and I'd still hate him for what he says to me.") Hank's dad, Cotton, was also priceless. He was the one who coined the term "Benedict Arlen" because of the name of the town the show takes place in (Arlen, Texas.) but he was using it in reference to Gen. Santy Anny's Leg he stole from the local museum and returned to Mexico so he could get a Mexican driver's liscence.
By the way, Phil Hendrie was a semi-regular on the show from the beginning, and he was great in all his roles, including the last episode where he plays a Canadian neighbor who challenges Hank to a lawn mower fight in their front yards and end up getting arrested for drunk driving on their lawn mowers. It was always classic to the end.
I hope the new Mike Judge show is as good as KOTH has the legs for it to last as long.
