Chrysler Closes 789 Dealerships, Yet ABC, CBS and NBC All Feature Same Dealer

File under: “Insular world of the news media.”

Chrysler announced plans to eliminate 789 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealerships across the nation, yet on Thursday night ABC, CBS and NBC all showcased the very same upset Long Island dealer, Jim Anderer of Island Jeep in Lindenhurst, New York, while two other dealers also on the closing list were each featured on two of the three evening newscasts.

ABC's World News and the CBS Evening News both ran soundbites from Stanley Balzekas of Chicago's Balzekas Motor Sales; CBS and the NBC Nightly News gave airtime to Howard Sellz of Big Valley Dodge in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles.

But only Anderer, who must have had a busy day in front of film crews from the national and local media, earned the triple play on the broadcast networks. Following a piece from Chris Bury in Chicago, ABC's World News ran a “1st Person” segment with Anderer railing against Chrysler. The CBS Evening News put two bites from Anderer in a piece narrated from Atlanta by Mark Strassmann and NBC slid a clip of Anderer into a Nightly News story from Lee Cowan in Los Angeles.

There are limits

obama and the democrats feel they have unlimted powers, and the 'republicans' in congress seem inclined to support that view.

My advice to the dealerships is to write letters to their elected representatives, both in the senate and the house, and send a copy to obama.

Include the followinf list and as the 'representative' where they got the power to sieze control of PRIVATE SECTOR ANYTHING!

There are a total of twenty “Enumerated Powers” specifically spelled out as the ONLY powers the federal government enjoys.

Those twenty Enumerated Powers are:

1. Borrow money
2. Regulate commerce among the states

3. Regulate naturalization
4. Regulate bankruptcies
5. Coin money
6. Fix weights and standards
7. Punish counterfeiters
8. Establish post offices
9. Establish post roads
10. Record patents
11. Protect copyrights
12. Create federal courts
13. Punish pirates
14. Declare war
15. Raise an army
16. Provide a navy
17. Call up the militia
18. Organize the militia
19. Makes laws for Washington, DC
20. Make rules for the Army and Navy

Not listed is taking control of private industries.

The econmy

The economy is in much worse condition than is being reported by Pravda and the Barry Soetero Administration. The good news is that more Americans may finally be waking up to this. Dick Morris believes that Barry will come crashing down before the end of his first ( and only? ) term. Let's hope so.

BTW, I thought we could "never let the auto giants fail"? Wasn't that what the rush for the first "stimulus" package was all about? What an insult to the people our "representatives" are!

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Sorry to hear about this dealer

but all 3 networks reporting on the same dealer? It looks like a setup to me!

It is less work to repeat a story than find a story.

The cars will drop in quality.

Service support from the factory will be shoddy.

Delivery of ordered cars will not return as in the past.

Obama is a control freak and cars will go on allotment.  Dealer will be told what cars to take and sell

Being a former dealer will prevent a lot of pain.

Obama may set up a requirement to sell 10 3 cylinder Fiats for every full size truck.

Over 80% of GM and Chrysler

Over 80% of GM and Chrysler is now owned by the federal government and the autoworkers union.  Can you imagine the kinds of cars that will be crapped out at the back end of that process?

I agree Tom

However I do feel you do a slight disservice to my morning 'constitutions'. I happen to have a 'good' bowel movement occasionally.

Jdyl~

TMI, TMI! :)

Fox and Friends...

Fox and Friends interviewed the same guy...Probably the closest dealership to NYC or the easiest to get a crew on site.  SOMEONE could have gone to Joyzee, no?

Lindenhurst is in Suffolk

Lindenhurst is in Suffolk County, a fair haul from Midtown Manhattan.  I would have to think that there are closer Chrysler Dealerships in one of the boroughs, Nassau County or Northern New Jersey...maybe this is the closest Chrysler Dealership that's closing?

It's those morning White House conference calls to set the days "news" agenda. The calls are paying off dividends.

"DumbAssity of Dope"

My wife and I are personnally dealing with this...

She works for a Chevy Dealership in CT. Waiting on word whether or not she will have a job in a few weeks.  Sad...Graduate Degree and all...waiting on the great retards at Chevy to dictate our lively hood....yet the tard that put the compnay into the ground...no worries for him.

I told her if they want to fix this debacle boot all of the union backed employees out the door and get the UAW out of there. They are the ones being paid to sit on their asses because they have a round still instead of a square one...so they can't work on anything (get the drift, don't take it literally). There are thousands right now that would be willing to work with out the strong arm of the union, just look at the unemployment line. It works for Toyata and Honda.

I also saw CNBC had sent

I also saw CNBC had sent one of their reporters to Island Jeep yesterday.

"The wrOng ONE was elected"

Now where do I go to get my Government car repaired.

From my experence Dealers repair what they sell, I guess I'll wait down at the DMV to get an oil change..

Big Valley Dodge, was mentioned on CBS radio too.

Reagan VS 0bama

This needs to be monitored

We need to watch something very closely on these dealerships; union influence and political contributions.

Will dealers that are union shops be given preference over non-union in the same states and cities? Will dealerships owned by individuals that have made big money contributions to democratics be given preference in deciding who closes? This would not be easy to tabulate and difficult to show any measurable bias, but I suspect it is happening. This may call for some real (oh the horrors!) journalism.

Closing Dealerships

This is just the beginning.  When GM fails, more of

their dealerships are also closing.   This not only

effects the auto industry, it effects personnel from

local towns, cities, etc.   Towns and cities get taxes

from all these dealerships and are losing lots and

lots of revenue.   Its going to effect more jobs than

Obama can count.   Where's employement

rising from all this bailing out and stimulus?????

Haven't seen it yet have we?

I hope the affected dealers resist this unconstitutiuonal act

Somebody has got to get the resistance ball rolling, else Obamanomics is going to destroy our country.

I am hearing news reports here in Atlanta that many of the dealerships that Obama is shutting down are actually successful.

This begs the question, just what the hell is Obama doing?

And more importantly, when are our so-called business "leaders" going to start speaking out against the blatantly illegal actions of the Obamanistas, instead of cowering in their bunkers?

-Dave

America has gone totally insane

Re successful dealers

The number of cars and trucks that our country needs is somewhat constant, driven only by the state of the economy, not the state of the auto manufacturers. When Americans refuse to buy a government car, they will go elsewhere. The Japanese dealers, and Ford are not blind. They see that this will happen, and they will be looking at those dealers that have good reputations and capitalization, and signing them on. Luckily many of them will simply change badge.

Has the gas crunch finally

Has the gas crunch finally hit the news media?

Or is it just laziness?

Welcome to Gangster Motors

You know what's so darn upsetting about all of this?

Like may of you, I have tried to buy American. I own a Saturn, Pontiac & Ford. I think that the Chrysler brand is now permanently tainted as "Liberal Motors" (maybe one of you can create & post a satiracal emblem). I just don't know if I could ever come to even consider purchasing a Chrysler product, there's just too much political baggage that manifests at the thought.

I am about as

dissapointed as I can get, being a big Dodge supporter (I currently own 4 from an 01 to the new 08). Sad thing is, the "American" auto makers have finally started making cars that look and drive like American cars. We are still debating with ourselves weather or not we will be getting the Challenger?

Re Challenger

I don't think you can lose with the Challenger, it will be worth more than you paid for it in a year or two. The lineup to get one might also be a little shorter. With a car like that you don't care about things like warranties. Make sure it has the big V-8 though.

It is sharp

I also had an image in my head of a red Convertable in a few years? Our local dealer has had some nice ones, and they have been letting me test drive em, they are the real deal.

Somebody on Fox News needs

Somebody on Fox News needs to jump all over this one.

Holy cow!

Talk about collusion.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

Lazy Media

The lack of investigation or even the desire to present a mixed bag of views is so glaringly obvious.

If an investigation was made into the political contributions of the dealership owners for the last election cycle was made, it just may reveal those that contributed to Obama will remain in business, those that did not will be out of luck, laying people off, and choking their suppliers because of Obama's baseless and purely political decision.

This has nothing to do with GM or the economy, Obama's thinning the herd, deliberately and with "surgical precision" pushing more and more capitalist Americans to their knees, forcing them into enslavment by the government.

boycot of GM n Chrysler

Hello

i am in the trucking/courier business in Northern New Jersey...there is informal talk amongst members of our industry to ditch GM and Chrysler and buy only from Ford and maybe the transplants....A lot of anger in my industry against the feds.

Paarl of Rhodesia

They will suffer

GM is going to China I would never buy one. Their going to try and do what the Japanese auto makers did in the 70's-80's. Wont work this time,

Makes you wonder what the Union folks think about this. Our Gov is taking over Buisness and shipping the jobs off overseas. We pay these folks to do this to us.

My sister-in-law just got

My sister-in-law just got notification yesterday that the dealership she works for in San Antonio is one of those chosen to close.

Since it is the government

and in particular, the Executive Branch forcing this, and changing the rues as they go, this is a good case for the Takings Clause to come into play.

Don't sue for money, but sue for the RESTORATION OF LAW, and force the courts to take a position.

With the number of individual dealerships closing, several thousand lawsuits should perk up somebody somewhere.
