Which Wednesday newspaper headline, over articles about the same report from the Pew Hispanic Center, is not like the others?
Immigrant Homeownership Proves Resilient in the Face of Slowdown
Boosted by Boom, Rate Virtually Unchanged During Bust
Lead: “The rate of homeownership in the United States is holding up better among immigrants than it is for native-born Americans, according to a study released yesterday.”
Housing Boom Aided Minorities
Homeownership Reached Record Levels, Narrowing the Gap With Whites
Lead: “Minorities in the U.S. increased their levels of homeownership at a faster clip than whites during the recent housing boom, according to a new report, and narrowed the ownership gap with the majority despite taking a bigger hit during the subsequent bust.”
Homeownership Losses Are Greatest Among Minorities, Report Finds
Lead: “After a decade of growth, the gains made in homeownership by African-Americans and native-born Latinos have been eroding faster in the economic downturn than those of whites, according to a report issued Tuesday by the Pew Hispanic Center.”
As the Wall Street Journal's James Taranto observed in his May 13 “Best of the Web Today” compilation:
Policies designed to increase homeownership rates among minorities succeeded -- and...some of that success has proved durable. But the cost of this success was to help undermine the entire financial system. The Times portrays this as another story of “world ends; minorities hardest hit,” but it's really more “minorities benefit, world hardest hit.”

WSJ, looking better all of the time!
Thu, 05/14/2009 - 05:05 ET by Forest for the TreesThis is as perfect an illustration of the slant, spin, and bias of the media as has ever been pointed out; although News Busters is very good at doing so routinely.
It's getting so difficult to stomach reading even one NYT article or op-ed piece any more. Hope the NYT closes down soon, seriously.
On a positive note, this makes me feel all the better for focusing on finding worthy news reports in such sources as the WSJ.
Sadly, this is a twisted
Thu, 05/14/2009 - 05:09 ET by EdCoyneSadly, this is a twisted perversion of our Constitutional right to a free press. The press was supposed to be our "4th branch of government", intended to keep the other three in-check, but it's been hijacked by people hell-bent on destroying the Country.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Strange. Normally the NYT
Thu, 05/14/2009 - 05:20 ET by JerryStrange. Normally the NYT (D) reserves these types of headlines for booming economies under Republican administrations.
When asked if he went to war with Iraq to derail the impeachment vote: “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).
The NYT is making this way
Thu, 05/14/2009 - 10:08 ET by QueenMumThe NYT is making this way too easy. If this sort of thing keeps up, N.B. will have to close up shop. ;)

Reciprocation From the Green Room
Fri, 05/15/2009 - 08:19 ET by RovinYou just can't "compete" with the New York Times when it comes to "printing the facts" (sarc)
I've taken the pleasure of linking this story to the Green Room, (a subsidiary of Hot Air) with many thanks to Brent and the folks here at Newsbusters.
