NBC Champions Obama's 'Power Duo' Women

Photo of Brent Baker.

President George W. Bush had a female First Lady and a woman as Secretary of State, but NBC's Brian Williams on Wednesday night hailed, as the fulfillment of President Barack Obama's promise of “change,” how he has a “power duo” in a woman First Lady and a female Secretary of State. Williams cooed, with “Women of Distinction” as the on-screen heading:

President Obama won the presidency promising change. There was more evidence of that in Washington today. His wife, now First Lady, Michelle Obama, and his former rival, now Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, a former First Lady herself, joining arms, joining forces. A study in style, substance and power, really.

Pegging her story to Michelle Obama's visit to the State Department, reporter Andrea Mitchell touted “two strong women coming together of after a tough campaign” and how “two of the world's most powerful women” are now “both role models.”

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

After contending Mrs. Obama's “style” is “totally modern when it comes to fashion and being fit,” while “in other ways she chooses to be more traditional,” Mitchell showcased an assessment from Obama family friend Valerie Jarrett, hardly an independent observer: “Already people look up to her, they see her as somebody who grew up with humble means and yet worked hard, received a good education, and then devoted her life to giving back to the community. “

Neither the CBS Evening News nor ABC's World News considered the State Department visit newsworthy.

Williams teased at the top of the Wednesday, March 11 NBC Nightly News:

Leading ladies. A power duo in Washington today teaming up to honor women of courage around the world.

The subsequent story:

BRIAN WILLIAMS: President Obama won the presidency promising change. There was more evidence of that in Washington today. His wife, now First Lady, Michelle Obama, and his former rival, now Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, a former First Lady herself, joining arms, joining forces. A study in style, substance and power, really. More on the gathering from our own Andrea Mitchell.

ANDREA MITCHELL: Two of the world's most powerful women.

SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY CLINTON: It is my great pleasure and honor to introduce the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.

MITCHELL: The new First Lady continuing her tour of government agencies.

MICHELLE OBAMA, AT STATE DEPT: And let me thank Secretary Clinton -- I love saying that -- for that kind introduction.

MITCHELL: And a former First Lady, who now visits the Oval Office as Secretary of State. Two strong women coming together of after a tough campaign.

SECRETARY CLINTON: I have to say that in a very short time, she has, through her grace and her wisdom, become an inspiration to women and girls not only in the United States, but around the world.

MITCHELL: Still, they approach their jobs in very different ways. When Bill Clinton was President, Hillary took on health care. When Barack Obama tackled the same issue last week, Michelle was serving up food at a soup kitchen across town.

MICHELLE OBAMA: I want to make sure that our guests here and across this country are eating nutritious items.

MITCHELL: Her style, totally modern when it comes to fashion and being fit. In other ways she chooses to be more traditional.

MICHELLE OBAMA: To get things that are really, really fresh.

VALERIE JARRETT, WHITE HOUSE SENIOR ADVISOR: Already people look up to her, they see her as somebody who grew up with humble means and yet worked hard, received a good education, and then devoted her life to giving back to the community.

MITCHELL: Now they are both role models. Today, jointly honoring women from around the world for their courage on human rights. Tomorrow, Michelle Obama takes on another of her top priorities -- traveling to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to learn more about the challenges facing military families. Andrea Mitchell, NBC News, at the State Department.

Role models?

are now “both role models.” Role models for whom? Oprah? Please explain MSM! Are you kidding me?

"Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the democrats believe every day is April 15." Ronald Reagan

Repulsive.  And we have

Repulsive.  And we have four years of this sucking up ahead of us.  Aaaaargh.  How can any person with functional brain cells watch network news?

Two strong women!

I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh please.  What

Oh please.

What happened to Michelle's desire to be the "Mom-in-Chief" and be a homebody, taking care of her daughters?

Oh, I forgot...she's a "working woman's role model"....farmed that job out to the grandmother.

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson

"Two strong women coming together ..."

oh, paleeze!  just my opinion, but i would be willing to bet they despise  each other; hillary for the obvious reason, and michelle, well, for the obvious reason.

"i believe he will not stop until we are all jobless, homeless, hungry, and cold!"

first, Sterling is going

first, Sterling is going to get a thrill up his leg over reading this.

2nd, oh please!

3rd- yes these 2 women have a lot in common;  they were hidden from the public during the campaign, husbands cheated on them,  and they are both lawyers.

now the MSM wants us to beleive that now the campaign is over their status is powerful and awesome.

Michelle is the people's princess

Personally, I found this human interest story that NBC did was excellent.  Although I am not a big fan of Mrs. Clinton- Michelle on the other hand is a force to be reckoned with.  Mrs. Clinton better watch out for there is a new girl in town; who is sexy, smart, and charming.

As for Michelle’s mom raising her daughters well I personally do not think that is the case.  How many working parents drop their children off at grandma and grandpa for the afternoon to babysit?  Come on she could get a nanny, yet like many caring mothers refuses to let some stranger be around her children-may I also add she is also saving the taxpayer money too.  I commend the Obama’s for having such strong family values.  Oh, and did I mention how does Michelle do it?  How is she able to raise two young girls, support her husband, serve the nation, and keep so fit all at the same time?  Yes, she is a role model.

OMO...spew alert!

Michelle is the people's princess?

Only if the "people" are a bunch of junkyard dawgs.

Carry on, Sterling....I really wonder whether your devotion is real or just an over-the-top sketch.

Are you for real, or are you Memorex?

I hope he fails, too.

Michelle is a role model (and a fashion icon)

I am totally for real- why would you ask such a question?  I find it my manly duty to defend any lady who is attacked so viciously.  Also- it does help to defend someone like Michelle who is so easy on the eyes.

~A Question

I find it my manly duty to defend any lady who is attacked so viciously.

Did you defend Sarah Palin?

Hope and Change= Despair and Socialism

I will defend any lady who gets attacked

Yes, when some of my friends started on Sarah’s family I defended her.  I think that Mrs. Palin is a fine role model for young girls as well.

Okay

You earned a couple of points there.

I hope he fails, too.

No he doesn't. How do you

No he doesn't. How do you know he's lying?

~My opinion of you

Just crawled back out of the dust bin.

Did you check out my links?

Now I know you're a plant.

LOL...that was waaaay too easy!

I hope he fails, too.

Sterling-  Michelle has 3

Sterling-  Michelle has 3 favors working for her 1) fashion advisor 2) lots of airbrushing and 3) favorable biased MSM

§ Sterling...Really??? What about Gov. Palin???

I'm curious to hear your Opinion on the way Gov. was ( and still IS) being ATTACKED by the MSM and Particularly MSNBC.

Breaking...Olby just ATTACKED Palin's daughter for breaking up with her Boyfriend.  Your Opinion on that would be appreciated.

I'm waiting on Maddow's Comment any minute...

Ster.

My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

I like Sarah Palin but....

Like I said before, I like Mrs. Palin.  If she was not so anti-conservationist she would be a great candidate for the Republican Party.  Come on she kills wolves out of a helicopter… that is not a sport that is just mindless violence.

As for her family, I thought it was disgusting that some spread those vicious rumors about her little boy.

Sterling- so killing

Sterling-

so killing wolves in a very rural area to help the caribou (so the poor alaskans eskimos won;t starve because they depend on caribou) is consider evil.   so you say that the life of an animal is far more important than the life of a defensless unborn baby-which Obama supports fully (federal funding, embryonic stem cell research, and possibly repealing the rights of doctrs/hospitals who do not want to perform abortion but will be forced to because then they wont get federal money)now that is mindless violence!

Stl... LOL...like I said

Stl...

LOL...like I said elsewhere...you are good...I gotta' give ya' that.

I, for one, thank you for the entertainment.

I just sat down here to see what is going on...and you're carrying the show...with wit.

bigtimer

Thank you.. Methinks that I am too clever for my own good.

Stl... Close...but no

Stl...

Close...but no cigar.  ;-)

sarah palin did not shoot wolves out a helicopter.

respectfully sterling, that was mis-information by our friends in the msm.  she did support the program whereby the wolf over-population was thinned, thereby keeping them from decimating the other wildlife on which the indigenous peoples of alaska depend for food.  as soon as i locate the link(s) to the correct information, i will post it.

"i believe he will not stop until we are all jobless, homeless, hungry, and cold!"

ctmg.... He knows it,

ctmg....

He knows it, believe me, he knows it very well, he is playing you all.

One thing about it...I hope he gets top pay for the leftists, he deserves it...he's moved on up in the world with his rhetoric, just about got it perfected...the best I've ever seen.

i agree, bt.

i honestly think he's a plant.  no one can really  be that, that, well you know, lol!

"i believe he will not stop until we are all jobless, homeless, hungry, and cold!"

~No she doesn't *sigh*

learn a little about wolves in Alaska. Palin has never personally hunted anything but moose.

Hope and Change= Despair and Socialism

MISINFORMATION!

Sarah Palin never shot wolves from a helicopter.  She shot baby seals.

sterling, i see you are....

...still off your meds.

"i believe he will not stop until we are all jobless, homeless, hungry, and cold!"

Michelle = one hot momma

I guess all the girls in my office our off their meds too?  I seriously went around the other day and asked everyone what they thought of Michelle- I got one I do not care for her.  The rest of the office loved  her.  I have a circle of friends too who all love Michelle…. The women wish that they could look like her.  So America is off their meds?

P.S. If I ever have a daughter my significant other and I came to the conclusion that we will name her Michelle... who could be a beter role modle?

"So America is off their meds?"

yes, but only 52% of them.

"i believe he will not stop until we are all jobless, homeless, hungry, and cold!"

  Were these the same

Were these the same office people who were rolling on the floor due to some comment about Rush the other day?  If so, then you might want to consider the source.  PS. I am so glad I do not have to work in that office wherever it is.

Sterling-   when did

Sterling-

when did she become the people's princess? before or after the election?

she came out of hiding after the election and all of sudden she is the new "princess".

saving tax payer money- why not send her kids to public school? tell her husband to give us more than 600 in stimulus money that we got from Bush?

Don't feed this troll

This one is an obvious troll. He needs the attention (unloved?, abandoned?, psychological problems?, whatever!) so I would advise we stop feeding his childish behavior. He's wasting our time.

Do you think Hillary give Michelle a "overcharge"button, you know, the same one she gave russia... wonder if Hillary gave Michelle advice on 1) no cigars in the office and 2) no female interns....

JAJT... ...Big Grin sent

JAJT...

...Big Grin sent your way.

Attack the Bubblehead(s)!

I don't know how a post like this gets turned into an attack the subject (Michelle Obama and Hillary) rather than attack the messengers (those idiots Andrea Mitchell and Brian Williams).  I hold nothing against the First Lady or Hillary at this point but the fact is that NBC would have never done a similar story on Laura Bush and Condi Rice.  Period.  I don't watch NBC News, I believe Andrea Mitchell hangs around MSNBC a lot.  Go to Drudge and see the latest cable rankings - MSNBC dead last with Olberman getting less viewers than Nancy Grace.

Laura Bush & Condi Rice = FIRST CLASS!

Michelle Obama & Hillary Clinton = LOW CLASS!!!

And, NO, the msm would never give the two sets the same coverage!

Condi Rice would NEVER have committed the MANY gaffes HRC has recently been 'credited' with - and that CACKLE!!!!  We will have to endure hearing that offensive noise for the next four years!!!

Laura Bush has exhibited class from day one - and I should imagine she's probably been 'proud of her country' for her entire life!!

There is NO HOPE for the msm - we can only sit and watch as they fold, one after another!

It is widely known that NBC

It is widely known that NBC is so far in the tank for BO that they have to do this stuff.  Zucker and Capus have so much invested that they are going to do whatever they have to do.

finding role models

  • Turn off your television - there are no role models there.
  • Set limits.
  • Hug your children.  Tell them you love them no matter what.  But be their parent - not their friend.
  • Have dinner every night together (even Oprah says its cool now)
  • (optional) Plant a garden and involve your children (what could be fresher food?)

there, now you've found a role model for your children.  (that would be you) Congratulations.

 Katain... excellent!

The Government cannot give to anybody anything which the government does not first take from somebody else. Dr. Adrian Rogers

not powerful

Michelle Obama has relatively no power in the world. That was such a stupid statement. If they want to name the two most powerful women, they're Hillary and Pelosi. That's a fact, although I don't like it that those two are in the positions.

And you will notice that the $300k position she

held was of such importance that it was eliminated after she left...hmmmm

Does that look like a political favor???  Does that smell like a political favor??  BETCHA it WAS a political favor!!!!

This coup has gone on long enough. The time to put it down is NOW.

Just when you thought all

Just when you thought all the vacuous celebutard garbage was saved for TMZ, Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood, NBC brings you red carpet brown nosers Brian Williams and Stretch Mitchell.  Pretty soon Brian Williams will be playing incredibly weak New Age music at Red Rocks.

the bottom of it

I want to know why nobody has gotten to the bottom of Michelle's involuntarily parked Law Degree. And have you noticed how all her camera shots are from above?

and here they were all bragging about her gorgeous 'back' ;-)

I enjoyed this story as a

I enjoyed this story as a departure from the others I have been reading about Michelle Obama

this one had the word "arms" in it and no where near it was the word "toned"

thanks

Where's Nancy?

Well, I don't see Nancy Pelosi mentioned anywhere.  She's probably fuming!
