In the midst of a segment on Rush Limbaugh on Sunday morning's Reliable Sources portion of CNN's State of the Union, host Howard Kurtz scolded his journalistic colleagues for a remark which “totally got missed by the media,” how CNN host D.L. Hughley charged “that the Republican convention 'literally looks like Nazi Germany.' I don't understand how he can get away with saying that. I think that is an outrage.” Kurtz, the Washington Post's media reporter, interjected his criticism after guest Amanda Carpenter of the Washington Times, and formerly with TownHall.com, had defended RNC Chairman Michael Steele's characterization of Limbaugh's rhetoric as “ugly,” a slam on Limbaugh he made on Hughley's show, D.L. Hughley Breaks the News, last weekend. She guessed Steele was thinking of “Rush Limbaugh's interpretation of 'Barack the Magic you know what,' so when he said 'ugly,' that was ugly, that was a very ugly part of the discussion that was in the run up to his election.” (Of course, “Barack the Magic Negro” was a song parody inspired by a black writer who used that term in a Los Angeles Times op-ed about Obama.)
Carpenter's comment reminded Kurtz:
In that interview with D.L. Hughley, who coincidentally his show has now been dropped by CNN, Hughley said -- this totally got missed by the media -- that the Republican convention “literally looks like Nazi Germany.” I don't understand how he can get away with saying that. I think that is an outrage.(Joan Walsh of Salon and PBS's David Brancaccio joined Carpenter in the three-guest panel.)
Matthew Balan's March 2 NewsBusters item (posted with video), “CNN's Hughley: Republicans 'Literally Look Like Nazi Germany,'” reported:
CNN host D.L. Hughley turned to the standard left-wing tactic of playing the Nazi card against Republicans on his program on Saturday evening: "The tenets of the Republican Party are amazing and they seem warm and welcome. But when I watch it be applied -- like you didn't have to go much further than the Republican National Convention....It literally look[s] like Nazi Germany." He went on to say that blacks weren't welcome in the party: "It just does not seem -- like not only are we not welcome -- not only are we not welcome, but they don't even care what we think." He later described the GOP as "reactionary."

You take care of him, he'll take care of you....Can you find one person, who thinks like that, in the Republican Party?
I wouldn't try to make more out of that statement than what it is. The thing to remember is that blacks have supported the Democrats for over 40 years and they're discussing the same problems today they were 40 years ago. Either you get upset about that, or you're willing to take what they give you in exchange for your vote. If that amounts to D.L. Hughley and many other blacks don't feel welcome in any party that doesn't come with free hand-outs, then so be it. It wasn't stated as an all inclusive point.

I KNEW he was a conservative because:

3…He could debate
4…He did not use profanity
5…He did not call either of the liberals “dumb, stupid, ignorant or misguided”
6…He did not talk over the liberals or roll his eyes or sigh with scorn
7…He answered all questions without fail or topic-shifting
8…He was logical

It's really easy to say the word and point to other people, the problem is if someone actually knows their history and they start looking at policies. Nazis wanted gun control. Nazis wanted to make demons of groups they opposed (Jews anyone), Nazis coerced industry to support their policies, Nazis were really big on propaganda and shutting down opposing opinions. I'd hate to say it, but this doesn't sound like Republicans to me however, it does sound like Democrats. Don't believe me? Watch the news.

I don't know who Amanda
March 8, 2009 - 11:57 ET by TEI don't know who Amanda Carpenter is, but this panel by Howard Kurtz brilliantly demonstrates a favorite technique used by useful idiots from the Washington/New York press corps. They match multiple hardcore leftists (here, Joan Walsh of Salon and PBS's David Brancaccio; three with Kurtz included) against one so-called "Republican" (i.e., non-Republican) like Amanda Carpenter who will predictably echo the same boilerplate as the leftists on the panel. Carpenter merely served as Kurtz's willing accomplice as do other media darlings (i.e., non-Republicans) like David "Gergen" Brooks, David Gergen, Chuck Hagel, Kathleen Parker, Andrew Sullivan, Kevin Phillips, Ann Stone, John McCain prior to winning the Republican nomination, .... Carpenter proves her complete ignorance of the "Barack the Magic Negro" parody or anything else about Rush Limbaugh. She probably hasn't listened to Rush Limbaugh for more than two minutes in her entire life. Does anyone actually believe that Kurtz would have had someone like Amanda Carpenter on his program unless he knew that she would allege that Rush Limbaugh is "ugly"?

I know Amanda, have met Amanda, and she is not Kurtz's willing accomplice.
That said, I think she was off her game today because Howard and his other two guests were rather unified in their anti-Rush and anti-CNBC opinions. I think this may have surprised Amanda, and that she was unprepared to be the lone rational voice on the panel. ns

March 8, 2009 - 12:37 ET by Noel SheppardTE,
I just rewatched that segment, and what Amanda was talking about being "ugly" was how the "Barack the Magic Negro" issue became part of the discussion concerning who should be the RNC chair. I don't believe she was specifically pointing fingers at Rush's parody.
Question: have you been on national television? I have, and it's NOT as easy as it looks.
As I said previously, this was not a fabulous performance by Amanda who is typically quite strong in front of the camera, but she is not a fool who needs a lot of help. JMHO. ns

Oh the humor in this is so irresistible that I cannot pass it up. Maybe then Mr. Sheppard you should give that benefit of the doubt to everyone on television; and not just a select few. Ms. Carpenter forte is punditry, this is what she does for a living. Let us use a little parable- A builder builds a home but forgets to install windows, when it rains the water comes into the home- the builder replies to the home owner, “I had an off day.” Surely you see the absurdity of this statement? Once again, Kurtz soft pedals his criticism of the media. They did not "miss" the remark - that implies just an excusable oversight. They saw it all right and deliberately chose to ignore it because they aren't out to destroy liberal talk show hosts - just conservative ones. Kurtz knows this and can't bring himself to say it on air - or more likely - doesn't want to.

Now obviously if Steele had down that it would have been very hateful and unfair to compare Hughley to the Khmer Rouge, so I'm glad Steele didn't do that, but for those who are tired of the stupid shit Nazi comparisons, just start comparing anyone who calls you a Nazi to the left wing Khmer Rouge.

Did she have lunch with George Soros recently or something?
From this NB article, only Amanda Carpenter actually defended Hughley's "Nazi" comment, but, I can probably guess the rest of the panel did, too.

Steele should not be mistaken for a Conservative, he is a Republican. Once and for all, Rush was speaking as a Conservative at a Conservative function. Not a Republican function.
Besides, all of this is a result of CNN getting exactly what it wanted from this so-called comedian. Kurtz is surprised? That sounds hollow to me. He works for the same company, the same company plan applies to him as well.
And Steele should have known what to expect going on this jokers show, I suspect he did. Looks as if the Republicans got what they paid for in Steele.
Hughley is a bigot
March 8, 2009 - 17:39 ET by Glenn_Franco_SimmonsI wrote one column on my blog about Hughley today.
I have one more coming, prompted by a well-meaning person who asked me on Delicious if Hughley was using Nazis as a generic term.
I told him that Nazi was not a generic term and should only be used in reference to the real Nazis, whom my uncle was wounded by and died of his wounds in the 1960s.
The Delicious poster also showed the illiteracy regarding history by stating that Nazism and Hitler are examples of fascism. I told him Hitler was a socialist and Mussolini was, in fact, the fascist, must as Hugo Chavez, the hero of Huffington Post that once blasted me because while as a managing editor I happened to have the gall to call Chavez a dictator. another instance of projection
March 9, 2009 - 11:49 ET by OhioladOne of the left's favorite propaganda tools is projection - in this case falsely accusing Republicans of acting like Nazis, long before it becomes all too obvious that that is actually the way the left has been acting. This is supposed to blunt similar charges against them when the Republicans finally do catch on. The left uses this trick time and time again, so it must work for them.
