Nightline's slug for its Tuesday night story about President Obama's inauguration: “America the Beautiful.”
With that iconic song title on screen over images of Barack Obama being sworn in as President, President Obama and Michelle Obama walking during the parade and views of the crowd, at the top of the program ABC's Terry Moran plugged a segment:
America the Beautiful: The nation and the world pause to witness an extraordinary milestone as nearly two million people come together to hail the new chief and celebrate an era of change.

January 21, 2009 - 01:08 ET by AizlynneWell, everyone who hated the US before still hates them.
I wonder what all those fans of his in Britain will say when they find out that terrorism will persist anyway.
I still am having a hard time fathoming what makes BHO different than those other politicians besides the colour of his skin? No one has been able to answer this for me.
However, now that you folks have finally figured out that skin colour doesn't tell you much about how one uses their brain, perhaps next time you will have more quality choices to choose from for President.
Until then ... enjoy your socialism!
Answer:
January 21, 2009 - 06:45 ET by sentforth5To the great delight of any and all of America's enemies, America has shunned our great Constitution and fraudulently set up an alien usurper to the White House. Americans have a hard time admitting that to themselves, but our enemies understand it very well, and can now blackmail our new "leader" and any legislation he signs or passes will be illegal and invalid. This is our first big step in surrendering our sovereignty and demolishing the one single document that set us aside and put us above every other nation on the Earth. God will not support this country any longer as "the people" have set up an idol and an envoy of satan, and thereby excused ourselves as a Christian nation. The Elect of God have sounded the alarm for MONTHS now, but our cries have fallen upon deaf ears and now begins the downfall of this once great nation.
I know folks will say I'm taking this too far, but just hold on to your hats folks...time will prove my words(that is ,if God doesn't remove Oblahblah by Himself).
So the answer is not skin colour, the nation has rejected GodYHVH and embraced satan, the son of perdition.

Well put sentforth5.
I wonder how many others in this country understand this.
Let's just hope that God's promise of "If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray, I will heal their land"...still hold's. And we, His people, can still make a difference.

The Big O
January 21, 2009 - 01:15 ET by rsgToday, I myself was fortunate enough to take lunch at a sports bar which had their TV displays tuned to various news stations showing the Inauguration occurring in Washington, DC. Thus, I bore witness to the climax of the longest running orgasm in human history.
Barack Hussein Obama (hereafter referred to as The Big O) was sworn in as the 44th, and the first Red... um, I mean Black President of the United States. Crowds of attendees panted, and swooned, and gasped; their bodies shaking with pure ecstasy... and that was just the members of the Press.
Many years from now, sometime during The Big O's 8th term (following the repeal of the 22nd Amendment), I will be able to sit in my rocking chair, as the children of friends and neighbors gather at my feet, and tell them where I was the day He became our Dear Leader.
What an historic day!

January 21, 2009 - 01:30 ET by BlazerWell, well, well. Looks like we conservatives aren't the only ones who are bitter.
"So, I don't even know how to write about this without it sounding like
bitter grousing, and frankly, I'm a little embarrassed to have to
report that after five hours of standing in the bitter cold, getting
pushed and shoved to the point where you start to feel for your safety,
and being herded to and fro, the most I can report about the
inauguration is that the 21-gun salute is really loud."
That is the one and only Jane Hamsher, the blogger of "Fire Dog Lake."
If you go to her site and view this post, you will see that she has posted some pics and you will notice that the crowd who could not get in were mostly African American. I wonder if that was why poor wittle Jane was at:
"the point where you start to feel for your safety"
You see Jane isn't griping that this is an historic opportunity missed for thousands of African Americans to finally see a man of color ascend to the presidency of the greatest nation on the planet, a dream many never thought possible. No, she's bitching and moaning because her elitist liberal beltway a$$ wasn't able to get bumped up to the front of the line ahead of all these lowly peasant's.
Looks like the hangover started before the party ever began.

I'll go you one better: the party started before the event it was celebrating. It's been like celebrating New Year's on December 18th. Or starting Christmas right after Halloween.
Oh, wait, we already do that. It's why I'm ready for Christmas to be over by the first week of December.
Same thing here. I had "inauguration burn-out" by last Thursday.

If your pride in your country is dependent on who the president is (like so many liberals of the last eight years), I'd venture that you're not really much of a "patriot."
What ever happened to "respect the office, if not the man?" Oh, right, that was repealed right after the Clinton Years.
But you can bet it will come roaring back right about...

Obama brazenly slams McCain, Juan sucks it up
January 21, 2009 - 06:35 ET by Jack BauerIs this what the conservfauxtive Obama groupies class as non-partisan reaching out?
Seriously George Will, Newt Gingrich, Bill Kristol, et al.
In his inboregral address President Obama claims that the people chose HIM over "fear," "conflict and discord," "petty grievances," "false promises"
It was either him or McCain that people had to choose, so by choosing OBAMA they had rejected the above as represented by McCain.
So McCain whaddya think of that as you suck up to Obama to get your seat at the top table back?
And by top table, we mean THE MEDIA TABLE.
BOHICA time Juan.
And of course, 52% of the popular vote, gives Obama a unquestioned mandate to "change" America" into a socialist basket case.
Whereas President Reagan's 1984 squeaker with 58.8% to 40.6% of the vote -- well, that was no big deal.

January 21, 2009 - 07:43 ET by Gat New YorkYou are right that he is operating with no mandate because of a slim win.
I just wonder how fast he will show his incompentence and when his true socialist beliefs will become apparent. The charade is over and now he is the one that has to make decisions - something he has never done his his 48 years on Earth.
I just wonder when his administration will become Carter II.

January 21, 2009 - 07:47 ET by MaytagWorking nights I wandered into the living room when fienstien was talking. The wife was watching FOX and they were panning the crowd. I told my wife everyone is black, how come they aren't showing any whites. She said the whites are at work... When I got to work last night the first thing one of my coworkers said was I think everyone thought obama was paying off house loans and filling cars with gas. That is why the line was so long are they gonna be pi**ed when they figure that ain't happening
Right to the end, no class, all a$$.
January 21, 2009 - 08:23 ET by motherbeltWell, after they broke away from George W. Bush's inauguration ceremonies in 2001 to cover Bill Clinton's long goodbyes, the networks once again showed their lack of class by ignoring the outgoing President.
Even later in the day, only Fox News saw fit to air Bush's arrival in Texas.
But the money quote came from the former President:
"Sometimes what I did wasn't popular," a smiling Bush told the crowd. "But that's OK. I always did what I thought was right. (emphasis added)
Godspeed, Mr. President.

January 21, 2009 - 08:38 ET by SeashellI am so glad at least Fox covered it. (I flipped around to see if anyone else was and of course, they weren't) Listening to him, all I could think of was, "boy, I am going to miss him". I was so disappointed when Fox had to cut away from it, but at least they had the dignity to cover most of it.
It is shameless the treatment Bush has received by the press. One day I think they're ways are going to come back to bite them.

January 21, 2009 - 09:16 ET by lgeubankIt's wonderful the way that sleazy pol manipulated the American people (at least the liberals and saps among them). A wonderful case of reverse psychology. Obama kept repeating over and over, "I know you won't vote for me, because I'm a black man." And everybody fell all over themselves to say, "Of COURSE I'll vote for you! I'm not like all those other bigoted whiteys!"
You can do anything with white people, if you just tell them they're racists if they don't do it. You can get a newcomer, a beginner, a novice elected to the highest office in the land, if you just tell whites, "Only a bigot doesn't see the Emperor's New Clothes."

"begin again the work of remaking America." the President
There is an upside to all this
January 21, 2009 - 10:08 ET by LCT688Beginning today the chosen one will have to move beyond the empty rhetoric of campaign speeches and have to start dealing with the reality of the problems we face. From what I have seen he is philosophically and intellectually incapable of moving beyond the political diktat of his own party. He will be hemmed in by the power greed of the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed. Any attempts to implement solutions that fall outside of the narrow confines of a party policy still consumed with and driven by Bush Derangement Syndrome will come up against a stone wall. So rather than moving in the directions of an actual restructuring of the financial system we will just get more of the same old “tax and spend” initiatives that got here in the first place. This combined with the impending bankruptcy of Social Security and Midi-Care will only accelerate us into a deeper and wider collapse driven by the systemic incapacity of the proposed solutions to deal with the problem. The sooner this happens the sooner the MSM and the American people will become disenchanted with Obama. When that happens they will turn on him like wounded animal.

January 21, 2009 - 10:31 ET by vrwc13Obama Inauguration Sets Record for Private Jets
For the wealthy, Tuesday’s inauguration is the dream party: a chance to rub elbows with the similarly rich and powerful, to become part of a historic moment, and (most importantly), to get access to the man of the moment.
It also is a chance to drown their financial sorrows in an emotional wave of optimism.
Yet it may come as a surprise that at a time of financial crisis and Green correctness, many of the wealthy are choosing to arrive by private jet.
According to an article in Bloomberg, as many as 600 private jets were expected to touch down in D.C. for the inauguration. The runway at Washington Dulles was closed Saturday to allow as many as 100 small planes to park. And the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said it expected a total of 500 small jets to land from Jan. 16 through Jan 21.
“That would set a record, topping the 300 the airport accommodated for President George W. Bush’s 2004 inaugural,” an Airports Authority says in the article.
Of course, flying private to a celebration of a populist, pro-environment President is a bit like the Detroit execs jetting to Washington for bailout money. How do you call for social responsibility after touching down in a $40 million, gas-guzzling Gulfstream? (Maybe travelers will buy carbon credits).
