Meanwhile, over on the NBC Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams must have been as awed as those seagulls since he contended he could “feel” the masses watching from around the nation: “While it was unfolding today here in Washington, you could feel the millions around the country who were watching it all.”
From the Lincoln Memorial, Weir began his January 20 World News report:
We know that wind can make a cold day feel colder, but can national pride make a freezing day feel warmer? It seems to be the case because regardless of the final crowd number estimates, never have so many people shivered so long with such joy. From above, even the seagulls must have been awed by the blanket of humanity...

The night before, Weir credited Obama for calming DC. My NB item, “And Obama Shall Bring Tranquility to the Land,” recounted:
Is there anything President-elect Barack Obama's very aura cannot make better? Apparently, he has eliminated road rage -- and even honking.
ABC's David Muir, over video of stuck traffic followed by the sound of singing, in a Monday World News story on the crowds coming to Washington, DC: “So many of the streets are closed those that are open are clogged. But there were no car horns, no shouting. Instead, the San Francisco Boys and Girls choruses practicing for their Inaugural moment on the steps of the Capitol.”

Wed, 01/20/2010 - 13:11 ET by doug1950As someone who was raised along a coastline and spent many years in the Navy, the one thing about seagulls one picks up is they are scavengers, nasty to a fault and make a lot of noise. As for the sea of humanity, seagulls simply see those as "targets of opportunity" to be crapped on at every chance. Ironic huh. Birds of a feather.......
Quite right, Doug

Tue, 01/20/2009 - 21:52 ET by CapeCodScottEver since Jonathan Livingston Seagull was written and personified those Flying Rats, I have never understood the fascination with them.
If we could get John Edwards to "Channel" one of those Seagulls I'm sure the thought would be more like "A Target Rich Environment, Lock & Load". ABC cites a bird brain as an imaginary source...that's rich.

I actually saw two buses
Tue, 01/20/2009 - 22:18 ET by BlazerI actually saw two buses here in Richmond on I-95 with Obama banners on them packed with what I assume were folks that had gone to the coronation. One had rear-ended the other pretty significantly rendering both inoperable and throngs of folks were stranded on the side of the interstate holding their belongings.
Long story short, yep,...... it was Bush's fault.

Wed, 01/21/2009 - 09:32 ET by thebutlerdiditSorry, someone mentioned Hitchcock. You know, in all seriousness, I said that I would not watch a single minute of that disgusting display, and like the glutton for punishment that I am, I ended up watching until 4 a.m. I did learn one important thing. New CIC Obama proves half white men can't dance. The cringe-factor for when he did the bump for the 10th time last night was at least a 9. And he didn't plan those "ball talks" too well. He gave the same tired lines at all ten balls, and of course the media reported them breathlessly. I will give him credit for going to all 10 of those stupid things. He could have blown them off, but he went and danced like a geek at every one of them, God love 'em.

Wed, 01/21/2009 - 09:51 ET by SeashellI watched the inaugural but didn't see any of the ball stuff until this morning, and I agree with you: HE CAN"T DANCE! Bet they don't show Obama doing "the bump" more than twice. We'll see.
Maybe, SS, but

I thought our own Blonde had it last nite, she called it the "rag-picking" dress, but you just edged her out. I was thinking "cotton-picking" after Blonde said that, but I realize that this is probably not P.C. I didn't have a major, major problem with the shape of the dress, other than it was one -shouldered, or the color, which was fine, or the silver jew jaws on it, but the tufts were bad. I think the funnies thing I have heard, is Olby saying that Obama is a "precise dancer." That like everything he does, he dances in a very "precise" manner. Hey, MSM, that's one more thing you owe Bush an apology over!!!

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 05:13 ET by ChattychitoAwe struck seagulls, singing children, I for one am not impressed one bit. 150 million spent on this event but none of it went to the DC Garbage collectors who had to clean up the mess. I bet it cost them that much just to get the mess cleaned up and as of today there was still a lot of clean up to do.
I remember seeing the mess that a bunch of Homosexuals left along the beach in Florida after having one of the Gay Pride parades in Pensecola. it cost the city 1.2 million to clean up and repair the damamge doen by around 8,000 perverts.
when I saw the left over mess on the streets of DC, I was reminided of an apartment I rented to a very dark ethic family on setion 8. It cost us $6,000 to repair the apartment, replace the carpets, the appliances, the toilet and sinks as well. They busted up everything the Govt substity they received paid thier monthly rent but the security deposit never came close to covering the cost of damage. Did the State of California of the Feds cover the cost. No way they basically told us good luck see you in court.
I wonder what the White house will look like when Obama leaves? on the other hand I may not even be here when he gets out or doesn't if he is trully "the One". some of you know what I am talking about. see you in the clouds
