In short USA Today “dossiers” on fresh characters in the new season of Fox's 24 set to debut tonight (Sunday), two of the four profiled actors/actresses used the space to espouse their personal disgust with the U.S. government for using “torture,” which has been employed by lead character “Jack Bauer.” Left-wing activist/actress Janeane Garofalo, who plays “FBI analyst Janis Gold,” called the use of torture “reprehensible” and rued: “That our own administration borrowed ideas from 24 is such a tragedy.” USA Today explained: “A former Army interrogator has said that soldiers mimic interrogation tactics seen on the show.”
Garofalo conceded she “was initially very reticent to do it, because I heard about the right-wing nature of Joel's [24 co-creator Joel Surnow] politics and the torture-heavy scripts.” But, she quipped: “And then I thought, 'I'm unemployed!'" So much for standing up for principle.
Cherry Jones, who handles the role of “President Allison Taylor,” lamented “it's too bad this season's topic is not Wall Street. The torture thing is very unfortunate; I have trouble with it. Fortunately,” however, “my President,” meaning the character she plays, “is opposed to it."
Jones saw similarities between the show and reality: “She's...very committed to restoring stability in this country and also the country's reputation around the world, not unlike where we are now.”

Exactly. And this makes her the classic "Do As I Say, Not As I Do" liberal: she's opposed to the politics of the program, the politics of its creator, and the politics of the scripts. YET, money is more important than her principles!
Sanctimonious, holier-than-thou people like her are always pointing fingers at so-called "greedy" Republicans:
Yet, when it comes right down to it, this hypocrite is more than happy to sacrifice her principles for some cash.

Beat me to it, I was about to say that Garofalo's lack of employment opportunities has ruined another good show!

..and, was Janeane Garofalo keeping her mouth shut in the 90's?
January 11, 2009 - 19:38 ET by Gary Hall..and, was Janeane Garofalo, and like minded loud mouth 'holier-than-thou people,' keeping her mouth shut in the 90's, over:
-Clinton establishing the US policy of extraordinary rendition?
Oh yes, I remember the Academy awards during the 90's - Did a single soul ever stand up on stage blasting President Clinton for bombing civilian markets, civilian trains, TV and radio stations, foreign embassies, Rx factories, and the county's civilian infrastructure?
For turning his back on the HIV/Aids Pandemic in Africa or on Malaria? Did they make movies about "Rendition," for the man who ordered it set up - rather for the man who ended the program?

Come on Gary... They didn't
January 11, 2009 - 22:43 ET by JerryCome on Gary... They didn't even say anything about rape, perjury, sexual harrassment, adultery, illegal possession of FBI files, illegal campaign contributions from communist sources, the Waco killings, or blowing up the Chinese embassy. What makes you think they would blast Clinton for anything that happened overseas?
When asked if he went to war with Iraq to derail the impeachment vote: “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).

After watching
January 11, 2009 - 19:44 ET by stratmanAfter watching 24:Redemption, the 2 hour prequel to tonite's episode, I can say I dislike this Hillary sorta-look-alike President, her husband and their son's girfriend-wife-whatever.
I'm still holding out hope on the girlfriend, though. She's a looker.
Why I no lonegr watch

Fairness Doctrine Preview?
January 11, 2009 - 21:30 ET by sflconIs having a leftist whacko like Janeane Garofalo on a show like "24" a taste of what the Fairness Doctrine might be like?

Having said that, these people are ACTORS! Thery are NOT REAL.
The left wingers are of no consequence and as long as they ACT the part, I don't care what they think.
Cherry Jones
January 12, 2009 - 01:08 ET by Adam_MEDoes she realize she's playing a Republican President? Then again, in the 24 Universe, Democrat Presidents are tough SOBs who have no hesitation when it comes to ordering the torture of suspects in order to get information. It's the GOP Presidents that are depicted as spineless weasels who go "by the book" so as to not offend anyone.
It turned me off, so I turned it off!

After watching about 20 minutes of hate Bush policies, play Senator allegations to illegal torture, more torture comments pointed to Jack Bauer, and that left loonie Garafalo, I decided that I didn't need to be brainwashed to the new PC policies justifying leftist hatred of our country. Somehow, I lost the story line.
I'll go back to reading Vince Flynn and Brad Thor, and forget about the new TV brainwash.

January 12, 2009 - 04:52 ET by SlicksterWhy do people watch this garbage in the first place?
The Senate hearings
January 12, 2009 - 08:28 ET by Adam_MEGranted, we don't know where the show's storyline is headed, but it seemed pretty clear to me that Senator Clarence Boddicker was supposed to represent your run-of-the-mill pompous Democrat who objects to any form of torture or extreme interrogation method while ignoring the very real threats that this country faces every day.
Shoot, in the world of 24, they've had so many terrorist attacks on L.A. alone along with countless Presidents at the center of them in one way or another that you'd think everyone would be employing Jack Bauer's methods.
Oh, The Irony....
January 12, 2009 - 19:39 ET by bpjamActor routinely play killers, child molestors, drug addicts, con artists, etc, etc, etc.
But they all have this handwringing about a single TV show which involves something described as torture. I guess the guys who play the terrorists don't get to complain about the fact that they have appear to be committing acts of terror on TV.
And Garafalo's character is just horrible. It's like she either has no idea of what this character is supposed to be doing in the script or they don't know why they wrote in the character other than to hire a hysterical liberal so that the critics would shut up about it being a 'right wing show'.
Jack Bauer kicks ass.
January 12, 2009 - 23:55 ET by R D HelmYeah, I saw the movie a while back, and that was all well and good, kind of.
After seeing the entire 4hr season kicker, I think its terrific so far.
As for Garofalo, I just hope she washes her hair (for once) before they shoot what will hopefully be the final scene with her soon.
Damn good thing for her and her character I'm not a writer for that show, too.
:-)
