MSNBC Turns Palin's Pardoning of Turkey Into Vehicle to Deride Her Over Slaughter in Background

Photo of Brent Baker.

MSNBC took denigrating Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to a new low on Thursday night's Countdown. With “BREAKING NEWS” ridiculously on screen, MSNBC ended the show, hosted by David Shuster filling in for Keith Olbermann, with more than three minutes of video of some turkeys being slaughtered by a man behind Palin while rotating chyrons hyperbolically declared:
GOV. PALIN PICKS WORST POSSIBLE BACKDROP FOR TV NEWS INTERVIEW

TURKEYS DIE AS GOVERNOR PALIN TAKES QUESTIONS FROM MEDIA

GOV. SARAH PALIN KEEPS TALKING WHILE TURKEYS GET SLAUGHTERED BEHIND HER

GOV. PALIN APPARENTLY OBLIVIOUS TO TURKEY CARNAGE OVER HER SHOULDER

GOV. PALIN NOT REALIZING INCONGRUITY OF HER WORDS VERSUS HER BACKDROP

TURKEY-KILLING FOWLS PALIN NEWS CONFERENCE
The video aired after MSNBC ran a story on Palin's pre-Thanksgiving pardoning of a turkey at a Wasila poultry farm. Shuster, quite serious, set up the segment with this warning:
We've made every effort to sanitize the video of what happens next, but you still might want to consider getting the kids out of the room right now and anyone who's a little squeamish about where Thanksgiving dinner comes from. Are they gone? Okay, here's what happened next: As Governor Palin stepped outside of the hatchery, to give a post-pardon interview, she neglected to notice what was happening directly behind her -- in clear view of the television cameras. We've blurred out the goriest parts, but here's her interview, from start to finish.
Afterward, Shuster asserted:
And you thought her media outings as a vice presidential candidate were as bad as it gets.

To watch the video in a larger frame -- those interested in the supposed gore, or reading the chyrons -- can play it on the MRC's Eyeblast site.

To watch the video sans MSNBC's blurring, view the original video as aired and posted by KTUU-TV channel 2, the NBC affiliate in Anchorage, which didn't find any of it inappropriate. It's simply titled: “Palin interviewed at turkey pardoning.”

UPDATE: KTUU.com has removed its video, as noted below in the comments. But I found the original KTUU-TV footage posted on YouTube.

There is Sarah Palin in the real world and embracing it; AND THANKFUL FOR IT!!!  God bless her, and thank God for Sarah Palin!!

Then there is MSNBC holding its collective nose, and sneering at Sarah Palin and all that she stands for and the Grace of God that goes with it.

What this clip reveals is the above-and-beyond immaturity of MSNBC.   They warned up front that the children should clear the decks, but then they forgot to check out themselves.  How sad.

MSNBC is just obsessed...

with Sarah Palin. The election was over two weeks ago, she is back in Alaska and back at her desk in the governor's office, and yet they just can't seem to let her go.

I imagine though, that their coverage of her will likely continue as long as there is a chance that she will run in 2012. MSNBC will keep up it's drum beat of unflattering and negative reports in hopes that they may damage her and hurt her chances then.

Somebody (or everybody) at MSNBC needs therapy.

Gov Palin is a hunter as

Gov Palin is a hunter as are most women in AK, she probably thinks nothing of the background...Palin is one tough lady!  Maybe she staged the background as a message to MSM!!!

I remember when I was about 8, my brothers took me deer hunting. When we returned home with our 'kill' the boys took the seats off my swing set and strapped the deer to gut it.  I cried for a week.

TN Mom...I can relate...Living in North Dakota...

where just about EVERYONE hunts (from cradle to grave) and my family does not, I have learned to try to not get upset when I see a freshly killed deer (or whatever else may be in season) strapped down in the back of a pickup truck. We love animals dearly, but we do eat meat...My clan just doesn't do the "hunting thing."

That said, the PETA folks are nuts, and the MSM never misses a chance to slam anyone that is inhumane enough (in their opinion) to hunt, and that clearly applies to Sarah Palin.

These are some of the funniest comments I've read at NB...and I don't eat meat. So, I won't be watching the video.

I wish these people would leave her the hell alone. She was asked to run with John McCain and she did. Any one of these people attacking her day in and day out would have crumbled into a fetal position and started sucking their thumbs if they had to endure what this lady and her family has had to endure since she started campaigning.

And stop picking on these elitist snobs. They know darn well where turkey comes from: the kitchen on a silver try by the hired help.

Too bad Sarah didn't slaughter one of those turkeys herself...

...with Ted there just to help her out.:-)

I'd just love to get one of those freshly slaughtered birds, shoot it full of white wine, and slap it on one of my 5 Webers (no knobs, btw) for about six hours with about five handfuls of bourbon-soaked hickory chips.

LOL-Bet the PETA people would have a conniption.  :-)

funny stuff!

I laughed when Shuster was being serious about getting children out of the room. MSNBC obviously didn't play the video to get Palin's message out. It's really too bad that interviews aren't played in full so we know the whole context. What Palin had to say was really good.

The guy in the background was funny. It seemed like he was saying, "Do you really want the camera facing this way?"

I noticed the guy in the background, too, and thought he was pretty funny.  And the dead serious warning about getting the kids out of the room?  Heck, I wouldn't have worried at all about my three little ones seeing that!  That's life!  That's sustenance.  And we're a whole lot more humane about how we go about our sustenance than any wild predator.

a truth that Sarah doesn't have to think about but the dumbasses in the MSM will try to use against her. The best thing about Sarah is that she is so pure, not a part of the Washington system. She really was the only "change" candidate on either ticket!

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

About a 53 on the Palinometer

The Left must really be afraid of Sarah Palin.  I mean, just look at all of the coverage, and the type of coverage, on Sarah since the election.  By 2010 (about one year before she'll announce her candidacy) most everyone in the world will think she is more evil than Darth Vader, Valdemort, Sauron (or Melkor - before Fëanor named him Morgoth - for you die-hard Tolkien fans), Cheney, Rove, Bush, Scrooge, and Snidley Whiplash.  She will also be portrayed as dumber than Joy Behar (I just couldn't think of anyone dumber).

The only thing I do not know for sure is whether the medias are doing this on their own (they are the largest Leftist, Socialist, Anti-American group that tell people what to think), or if they have been given orders from someone to ''take Palin out''.  Perhaps a bit of both, I guess.

By the way - for comparisson's sake, a 10 on the Palinometer is like Tina Fey saying in a skit ''Why, I can see Russia from my window!'' and a 100 on the Palinometer would be like saying Todd Palin screwed his own daughter.

The Future

Sarah Palin will one day be president. Make book on it.

probably right

No doubt four years of Obama will guarantee it.

Another NBC staged assault on Palin

It's obvious that the cameraman intentionally kept the slaughter in the frame with Palin for the purpose of generating another humiliation of Palin for the NBC affiliate. If the shot had actually been of Palin, it would have had her framed in the center. Instead, she was to the left and the slaughter was to the right. In fact, when she moved further to the left, the camera didn't follow her but, instead, steadily kept the slaughter in the frame to the right, ending any pretense that they were actually shooting Palin. In fact, since the shot could have just as easily been taken from her left where the slaughter wouldn't have been visible, it's obvious that the shot was intentionally set up to show the slaughter and that the primary objective of the article was to provide NBC more ammunition for their continuing crusade to humiliate Palin at every opportunity, even when they have to manufacture the opportunity. The left must be completly terrified of a genuine conservative liberated woman. Her very being illuminates the mythology of liberalism around womanhood.

Excellent reply.

Media's beef...

The media seems to have a "beef" with Palin. They are still hounding her every move. The more the media tries to make her look bad the better she looks.
What did the media expect. Gov. Palin to have a dumb turkey dressed in a tux, standing by a Christmas tree as she reads a long winded pardon? Now that would be a bad back drop.

With the amount of violence and sex on TV on a regular basis, I doubt anyone but the media paid any attention to it.

Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Wow

I hope the reporter and everyone else that are 'upset' about the background of this interview are vegetarians.

It is one thing to put your money where your mouth is about the slaughtering of animals and become a vegetarian.  It is another thing to whine about the slaughtering of animals and then to enjoy eating that same turkey later.

Probably most of us who

Probably most of us who grew up in "flyover country" have seen animals butchered for meat...I remember my grandpa killing some chickens for the freezer, he chopped heads off and threw them down to go on to the next, heads were still clucking and at least one headless chicken ran around, so I never had any illusions about where meat comes from.

I'm sure the obama family will be dining on tofu and arugula though.

The greatest thing is when

The greatest thing is when people realize where their food comes from.  My favorite example from high school:

My nephew was visiting for the weekend (12 years old at the time) and my dad had made a wonderful breakfast that included sausage.  The last time my nephew had visited, we had 2 large hogs named Breakfast and Lunch.  He made the mistake of asking where they went.  My dad flashed a big grin and my nephew looked down to the half-eaten sausage patty on his plate.  The look on his face was priceless.

But I have to say, the best meat we ever got was from a steer named Burger.  mmmmm steak.

Wow! Imagine the MSM's horror

As they discover that 'turkey' is actually a dead, dressed and cooked 'turkey'! The sheer horror in their sheltered little liberal minds must be devastating and almost disabling. Their next 'scoop' will be to do an investigative series and show that steak and other 'red meat' is actually dead, butchered cattle! And wait till they discover that pork actually is parts of a dead pig! Woooo. I bet half of them curl up in the fetal position on that epiphany.

Pssssst. Hey David...Did you know that bacon comes from pigs too?

Hey, I got the wrong "CHANGE"!

Yep, they sure can, we have tons of wild turkeys in our area...first time one scared me half to death, I was walking through the woods, looking for one of my dogs and swoosh...out of nowhere out flies a huge turkey right in front of me, about scared me to death, it was so unexpected and surprising to me, we had just moved out here, so I knew very little about wild turkeys back then...

They are huge birds aren't they? I actually saw four Tom turkeys get into a fight in our back yard once, and they meant business. I tried to break it up with my garden hose by squirting water at them, and they did finally quit and go their own way, fortunately. They can be very fierce when they want to be.

Hi Sky, you bet they

Hi Sky, you bet they are...I love to see when they have their young 'uns...they always seem to stop traffic if they are able to on the main highways..you do see plenty that didn't make it off the road too...

Kind of like jack-rabbits on the road where I was raised, just a normal occurance...of course around here the number one traffic mishaps are deer...especially last winter.

Btw Sky...as far as me being scared like that, I could of swore I heard turkeys in these parts when we moved out here, and my husband said there weren't any around these parts, so lo and behold when a big ol' Tom flew in front of me in the woods with a huge wing span, I held that over his head for a while...hehehee..

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

bt...I'll bet you did!!! LOL!

And aren't the little ones sweet? It's always interesting in the spring to see how many new babies we have that year.

In our town (and across the state as well), the turkeys are protected. Since they are quite commonly seen, people around here tend to look upon them as almost a type of outdoor wild pet. We feed them when they come throught the yard, and they will come almost right up to you. It's neat, actually.

We too have problems with car/deer accidents. Just like you said, last year we also had a lot of collisions. The county I live in unfortunately led the state in that last year. I hope this year is better.

Sky, You know what amazes

Sky,

You know what amazes me, is the majority of people naturally stop, protect, respect all wildlife, without laws being made, the majority of people only kill what the eat, the majority of people are stewarts of the land long before the environs. came along and caused destruction in so many areas...sure there are exceptions, but they are the minority and the outcasts in most communities if they are found to be menaces ect...

If the govt. would keep there beaks out of everything, life would be so much better and communities would prosper instead of depending on the federal govt. for hand-outs, but that is the leftist agenda... it will stay that way until people really rebel, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

One example that makes me ill, this is a guy in some town/city somewhere, stomped to death a neighbors little terrier...you know what he waas sentenced to...176 hours of community service...something like that...this is how backward this country has everything in my opinion...if that guy was near me, did that to my animal, well, lets put it this way, I would get even, with HIM, no doubt about it, and I would not be caught doing so either.

Everything is bassackwards in this society in my opinion.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

bt...Oh, from your mouth to God's ears...

Ditto, ditto, ditto! I'm with you!

We had a situation here about a year and a half ago concerning one of our turkeys. Some unknown sick bastard (pardon my french), had shot an arrow (can you believe it!!!???) at one of the Toms, and it was lodged in him, and protruded through his breast area. Amazingly, he managed to get around okay, but obviously many of us along with the city animal control tried to catch him in order to help him. This went on for months. Finally, animal control did catch him, and removed the arrow and last I heard the turkey was fine.

There are some real sickos out there, who would do this to an innocent animal...I just don't get this kind of thinking...

Too bad they never found out who did this to that poor turkey...I'd like to shoot an arrow at him (or her...you never know), and see how they'd like it...
